Just beat the game last night, brilliant stuff.

I have to say I HATE the ending though. It was awesome until Snake didn't die... What the fuck Kojima?

You don't send a character as important as Snake into the sunset with everyone knowing he only has a short time to live. A character like Snake also deserves to die a glorious death, not just fade out of existence.

Deep down I really just hope 2-3 years from now Kojima pops up at an interview with a video showing a 50 year old Snake with a scar on his cheek, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. Stranger things have happened in the MGS-universe, but really it's just that they ended Snake's need to fight so well. Snake really has no reason to ever go back into battle, but yet he's still alive. Bah, it just kind of sucks. Here's hoping Kojima actually has a plan.

That can't be his problem. I used rage and laughing bullets on my fox hound run and got the no kill count still. Currently doing an Altair run, wishing there was a way to tell how many people I've knifed/CQC'd already ;x Just using stealth since that really isn't part of the requirements (I hope).

If you load up the mission briefing from the main menu it should tell you your stats, I think. I tried to get the Altair costume on my first run but I came a few knife kills short of it.

I'm somewhat thinking that maybe he didn't want to deal with the backlash of maybe "encouraging" suicide in some way. Not that kids are supposed to be playing MGS games, etc, but making Snake into some political icon next time someone shoots up a group of people and then offs themself wouldn't be great either.

IMO, it might have been better to have him wind up dying from the fight with Liquid or something like that.

Still, I found the whole Big Boss/Zero thing to be just trying a -little- too hard. A tighter scripted first-ending would have been better, IMO.

Yeah I'd be against the suicide not because of those reasons, but because it just doesn't fit in with who Snake is, or at least how I view Snake. It's his will to live that got him through every battle. Even after hearing the gunshot I really didn't believe Snake shot himself at all.

It would have even been fitting, and just as glorious, if he died along side his father, the two most legendary warriors of all time dying next to one another seems fitting... I don't know where Kojima is going with that ending, but honestly if that's all we see of Snake then I'm very disappointed. The game was still probably one of the best games I've played, but it's one of those games that just doesn't feel complete to me, especially since Kojima said this was the end of Snake.

What I really don't want is for Snake to take the role of a bystander in other games, ala MGS2 (which I promptly quit after I started controlling the blond chick). At the same time I don't want to start up the prologue to MGS5 and have Otakon crying like a little baby talking about when Snake died in the old-folks home from a heart attack. Snake needed to die on screen and in a spectacular way. Personally I just think Kojima and Co. were afraid to do it, and that just really sucks.

Click mission briefing, load your most recent save, and do the act 2 or whatever mission briefing. it will give your current stats of CQC holds and knife kills.

I personally thought that Snake had actually killed himself when the gun fired and said to myself, "well, that certainly concludes his story". I was okay with the actual ending because the entire series was about not being bound by fate and its conclusion showed that Snake was free to choose to die or finish out his life.

Big Boss showing up at the end felt a little tacked on, but I thought the scene was very well done. Kind of ballsy to end such a high action/tech/etc series with 2 old guys just sitting around chatting it up.

I was very okay with Snake dying when the scene made you think that he had shot himself.

When the credits started rolling and I saw it end with "BIG BOSS Richard Doyle" I was like.... um, when did Big Boss talk and why didn't David Hayter do it? >.> And then they showed Big Boss and I was just in awe... I think the scene was like 15 mins long, and I loved every second of it.

I actually looked away during the credits and heard richard-fucking-doyle talking (who is easily distinguishable), then I thought, wtf?!? Great scene.

My only disappointment is the lack of one on one gun duel that has been the first (true) boss fight for every game previous. Ocelot, Olga, and Young Ocelot. The game had so many throwbacks, but the lack of the iconic gun duel surprised me.

lol, people who call Raiden a girl and Otacon a crybaby are better off skipping cutscenes. They are missing the point or don't care.

Now, for MGO I'm disappointed by the stupid brokenness that is headshots. I avoid using rifles of any kind and just go CQC and Knife... sometimes with a pistol thrown in there. Most of the time I get butchered by lucky sprays of fire(grats on getting that headshot while aiming for my torso), but when I do succeed, it is delicious.

EDIT: I can't decide which was a better boss fight:

    CQC vs Liquid
    Rex vs Ray

I'm probably going with CQC since it was somewhat difficult. Both are at the top of my best boss fights of all time list.

I actually think Otacon, although the voice acting is sometimes pretty shitty, is good as a crybaby. And there's no doubt that he's a crybaby, at least until the final scenes of 4 which he seems to be pulling it together. It shows the polar opposite of Snake's (mostly) unforgiving persona.

As for Raiden, whatever. Not liking a character does not mean you can't or don't enjoy the story, that's just stupid. I just opted to read about it rather then play the game, which I did not enjoy very much.

I didn't much enjoy playing as Raiden back when MGS2 first came out, but I replayed MGS1-3 after beating MGS4 and knowing the full story/plot, I actually came away enjoying MGS2 quite a lot more than I originally did.

Knowing that Raiden isn't actually a "virtual newb", suffered through a horrible past and eventually becomes a badass ninja made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable for me.

Kojima pretty much saved Raiden with the whole ninja thing in 4. Then again, the only reason he made him so badass is because of the feedback Raiden received after 2's release. I think he was really hurt that people weren't liking his new character lol.

I liked Raiden in MGS2 >_>. I can understand why people prefer Snake over him, but I was never able to understand why there was so much hate. It's not like his character did something horrible.

Tidus did nothing horrible in FF10, either.

People want their badass hero, not effeminate manboygirl

Beside his look, what part of Raiden made him an effiminate manboygirl? He is mostly silent and distant in the codec conversation, and his backstory was fitting in MGS context. If his face and blonde hair bother you so much, you might want to put more thought in your opinion.

The reason why people didn't like Tidus was because of his pop star attidude, not just his clothes. Comparing him to Raiden is pushing it imo.

I don't think its pushing it, I've talked to a lot of people and most agree that he's pretty effeminate... and thats the similarity. /shrug
