Fucking retarded article. Gaming is like watching TV now a day, are they going to now proclaim "Film watcher becomes mayor" ? We're not outcasts of society, we ARE society.
You can keep believe that but generally it's still considered a very niche/nerdy thing to man up to, especially in (granted, a dinky ass town but) politics.
FFXI drama can teach a gamer how to deal with people with ulterior motives!Originally Posted by Ryko
Dunno how it's like over there, down here having a console or game is like having a DVD player, everyone has one except for obvious choices like oldies who still think 1920 was the best time period ever.
Owning a console and being a "self proclaimed gamer" are 2 slightly different things.
What constitutes being a gamer? I also agree with Wafik, i don't get the novelty.
Gaming as a "Lifestyle choice" is retarded to begin with anyways. I'd agree, gaming is just something you do with your free time like anything else, if you think otherwise it's you attaching some stigma to it. There is always people who will criticize you no matter what you do in your free time, gaming is not better or worse in that regard, it's simply a matter of who you're speaking to.
People still pick up controllers and don't have any clue what they're doing, which is why I'd imagine it's still a niche thing.
Except for the fact that he's a 19 year old.
People still pick up remotes and don't have any clue what they're doing, which is why I'd imagine TV is still a niche thing.
Is this where Jack Thompson pipes up about blaming video games for... uh, successful campaigns?![]()

because you need a remote to understand what shows up on the screen?Originally Posted by Darus Grey

If he's calling himself a gamer, he better play more games than just Halo 3. The only way he'd be something more than what Wafik described.
I think reporters just toss out Halo and WoW because of how recognized they are.
I'm more impressed that he's a mayor at 19.
Wow, good job there.
Considering that people who started gaming with the Atari are now well into their 30s with kids and IRAs, we're about 2 elections away from a gamer for Governor or a gamer presidential candidate.
IOW the pasttime doesn't define the person or in any way qualify their accomplishments.
He's a gamer when, during a press conference, he has to "afk" to raid in WoW. ;oa
