That is not my analogy at all. The scarf's distinct design itself is used to protest Israel/West and it's very evident if you can't see that in the pictures. Even non-Muslims (even Jews as you can see) will wear it to a political protest of Israel. Don't tell me that you think they're wearing the scarf because it's cold, it's obvious why they're wearing it.

Re: Rachel Ray accused of being a terrorist sympathizer

So what you are saying is that all black and white patterned scarves should never be worn by anyone anymore unless they are showing resistance to Israeli occupation of Palestine?

Are you suggesting...letting the terrorists win?

How about this - it's akin to wearing a trench coat in Colorado (and I'm being very generous). Does that work for you?

I think you missed the pictures or something, because some of those are clearly in European Countries, maybe even America.

    http://www.nancarrow-webdesk.com/war...g.116978_t.jpgOh shit, France's foreign minister is a jew-hating terrorist!
http://gawker.com/assets/images/gawker/2008/02/11.jpgOh no, not John McCain's daughter! She's the most anti-semetic person I've ever seen!
http://media.kidk.com/images/080529_..._donuts_ad.jpgOh my god, even America's sweetheart Rachael Ray has joined the terrorist ranks!

Now, do we throw a shitstorm every time someone wears a black and white scarf, claiming that they have allied themselves with the evils of palestinian resistance? Or do we say "yeah, it's trendy to wear those cool Arab multi-colored scarves, like tons and tons and tons of normal everyday Arabs wear without political intent or affiliation?"

Again, when it's a sand-in-the-vagina contest, noone wins.

Those people, I'm sure had no idea that the scarf is used as a Symbol, and I can 100% guarantee you they've been informed and promptly took them off for good.

Don't get me wrong, the scarf looks good as I've said before, but when it's turned into a symbol it completely changes it. I can't really think of anything to equate it with at the moment, maybe the communist star? It looks cool cause it's a star and all, but it represents something important in the political scene.

I made it clear why/how it is a political statement, I think the contest is over.

The difference here is that the scarf is a scarf first, a symbol for some people in certain contexts second. The communist symbol/swastika/etc are DESIGNED to represent something. This scarf is just plain and simple not. It existed long before Yassir Arafat (yes I'm also going to be the douche that throws out that he has a nobel peace prize) and it will exist long after him. It's only a symbol in certain contexts, and a dunkin donuts ad is not one of them.

I guess the British Military supports terrorism as well then. Its standard uniform on SAS desert warfare fatigues.

'the circumstances' is an incredibly elastic phrase.

To me, the circumstances are Rachael Ray is selling donuts.

To a right wing racist fuck like Malkin they mean 'terrorist sympathizer.'

The scarf doesn't look like and isn't worn in any manner that is symbolic when put next to the pictures you posted. But you're right, anything can be misinterpreted if you clip it into your favorite context, which is exactly what a headline grubbing cunt like Malkin or any other politically slanted blogger loves to do.

Get this nonsense out of here - a scarf cannot be functional, it is only a symbol used to show your support for terrorism - it is incapable of covering one's face to prevent sand from getting in or one's neck to prevent sunburn.

Ray's scarf doesn't even look like the same patterning and it's lacking the tassle thingies (with Palestinian colors and symbol) that the demonstrator's scarves have.

The scarf is a scarf, but it has transformed into a political symbol by it's blatant use in the issue. Look at the Swastika for instance, it was used for 1000 years for something in Hinduism, after Hitler used it to represent the Nazi Regime, the symbol COMPLETELY changed and is a real horror to look at for some people.

I believe the phrase "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" applies here.
[spoiler:26r9bwum]which means there is a simple straight-forward way to look at this. it's just a scarf.
can there be a situation where a kaffiyeh be a symbol of pro-palestine/anti-israel/terr'rists? sure why not.
does it seem reasonable to assume that this is one of those situations? no probably not.
is malkin guilty of trying to see a big brown dick, when there's just a cigar? [/spoiler:26r9bwum]
