2nd edition was horrible, unbalanced and stupid. 3 and 3.5 had way retarded stuff, but it made players overpowered.Originally Posted by Guyverarmor
4th edition look nice in overall. They nerfed players really bad and fixed most of the issue with spell resistances, overpowered stats and magics items. Thing like "magic missile" at will is awesome. No more limited amount of missile every days, can spam them as a normal attack.

Like it or not, 3rd edition made D&D an order of magnitude more accessible to new players. It sucked being the guy new to the game at a 2nd Ed. table. It sucked even harder being the guy who had to help the new guy.

I can to concur. 2nd was when I had the most fun, for some reason.Originally Posted by Guyverarmor

I've read over a good part of the 4th Edition handbooks, and I must say I like what I see. Things are made much more simpler. No more worrying about allocating skill points every level or rolling for HP and getting several different prerequisites for obscurely referenced Prestige Class #75. Every class gets cool abilities to use in every encounter, and some classes are weakened to promote a more balanced game, so that past level 10 it is no longer the Druid/Cleric/Wizard Happy Fun Time Show, melees feel free to stand in the back and watch. Feats are actually generally worthwhile, and you get more of them!
And I've just barely looked over the monster and encounter rules, but there seems to be plenty of things set up to allow for some pretty nice fights with large amounts of enemies without either destroying your players or turning it into a borefest. Although apparently dragons are still way stronger than their level makes them out to be.

ok let me start casting call lighting, come back in 40 minutes.
Don't forget the amber rob, rabbit fur, and 3 rounds to cast it![]()
Right. While my character is casting, since beckwin isn't here today, I'm gonna control his character. Now he's a lvl 7 fighter, with weapon exterise gauntlets, so he gets 2.5 attacks, at thaco 10?
wow i'm looking over the books, and.. it feels like an mmo, complete with a monthly subscription fee?
damn
Guantlets of ogre strength and girdle of giant strength ftw
Well, our DM was very strict on magical items. Preferring to roll for every treasure, including quest rewards. End result was that around lvl 8 I had cartfull of scrolls/potions but only one +1 mace.Originally Posted by Guyverarmor
