Meh that's the problem, i dont think the aliens were supposed to be "threatening" at all.. lolOriginally Posted by Wintermute

anyway... the scene where you first see the alien actually had me kinda scaredit was done very realistically... and i'd imagine that's how it would be in real life...
bu yeah just saw the trailer of the happening where the guy lays down in front of his lawnmower D: i NEED to see what happens xD
Eh... I don't really think we are on the same page here. A shitty movie is a shitty movie, regardless of who liked it and who didn't. Signs was a shitty movie. The Hulk movie was a shitty movie. But everything M. Night does is not necessarily shitty in that regard. It isn't so much "The book isn't boring, you make it boring" as it is "The book isn't shitty, you have the wrong expectation of the book." One cannot make a qualitative statement based on personal preference, especially when it comes to art. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is garbage. Signs had a hokey ending, and after that one people like to automatically make the assumption that any ending to any further M. Night movie will be equally as hokey, and I really don't think that is the case.Originally Posted by Tyche
Like I said, the guy has good ideas and his presentation is usually pretty immersive. I just think he needs man up and admit he could use a little help on putting things together for a finished product.
Edit: For example, The Village used a *lot* of symbolism, and some of the symbols had multiple meanings. I like that M. Night tries to give you a product that makes you think, as opposed to someone like Joel Shumacher who gives you fagged out Batman with bright colors and happiness and flowers.
Actually liked The Village; especially in how he constantly mimicked the color-coding scare system that America uses for terrorism threats to govern the village. It reeked of a social commentary of post-9/11 paranoia and isolationism at times.
I think Night is plagued by too much commentary and distracting from the base plot of the movie. If he cut the fluff out, he could tighten up his movies more and add to the scare and thoughtful impact of what the movie is about-rather then meander about for a half-hour on some piece that isn't really necessary to provide backdrop while the audience's mind wanders on about what just happened beforehand, and where the movie is going. Too much time spent outside of the immersion.
Shamamlama could make a movie where he did nothing but rub his hands together then blurt out "TWEEST" every two mintues for hour and thirty minutes and it would still be better than what Uwe Boll can do.
I haven't seen Signs or The Village, and The Happening does sound pretty lame... but I really liked Unbreakable and Lady in The Water.
(Though I think its kind of funny that M. Night cast himself as the writer whose work will change the world, but only if he dies)
I think I liked both of those movies because they told archetypal stories in kind of a... sideways fashion. I'm so tired of the predictable rehashed genericness that most of hollywood is stuck making over and over again.
Speaking of which... I can't believe anyone would vote for someone besides Uwe Boll!
Given Uwe Boll's habit of challenging other directors to Boxing matches I think he's trying to piss everyone off until he can host a Battle Royale which he will then record.
It will be his greatest Film.
Which wouldn't be a hard achievement.
Uwe Boll needs loaded into a cannon and shot into the sun.
Sorry to bump this, but I just saw The Village for the first time today, and I thought it was excellent. After reading this thread I was expecting it to be garbage, but I don't really think so. I saw a lot of hate for that movie in here, and something about ruining it halfway through or something? I'm not sure I follow... please clarify why everyone seems to dislike this film so much.
Sorry, but if you really think it can't get worse than M. Nights movies...you haven't watched a lot of movies >_>
IMO, the biggest problem he has is that he's stuck on making things with a certain formula. The Sixth Sense worked so well because you didn't walk into it knowing there was a twist because of his name in the credits.
Boll's movies, on the other hand, suck. I've seen several, and they're just plain bad. Unless you're trying to make fun of them.
A few years ago my friends and I would have a weekly Bad Movie Night, wherein we would attempt to fill in the gap left by MST3k after it ended (best. show. ever.)
One of my friends started doing an Uwe Boll impression right about the end about how Americans were all idiots, and that's why they didn't get this masterful work of art he'd made, etc.
We turned on the commentary...and that was basically what he said at that point too >_>
I shall try. The biggest problem with The Village is the Deus Ex Machina at the end. Deus Ex Machina is a shitty method to end a story, period. Regardless of the quality of the Deus Ex, it's just a cop out. The shit at the very end of The Village wasn't even decent Deus Ex, it was like he was sitting on the almost finished script and wrote that last little bit hung over. To me, it was awesome even through the part with Ivy meeting the creature in the woods. The part after that should have gotten a rewrite before production. The symbolism, the tension and the atmosphere were all excellently done. I think a lot of people just don't get the symbolism, because they watch too many Micheal Bay movies where it's just good guys and bad guys and explosions and hot chicks and awesome. Easy to follow, fun movies. Shamallama movies are not going to be so much fun, and they make you think a little bit.Originally Posted by Day

I see Melchiah, I guess that makes sense, kind of like the "It was just a dream" ending. Personally I kind of liked the ending twist, it didn't feel too out of place or lame to me, but from reading some reviews and such I can see others thought it was.
I did find one interesting thing on the Wiki about the Village. It seems some childrens book writers feel that he stole the plot from their book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_Ou ... 28novel%29 Pretty damn close haha...
Really, I think he just twisted The Village too many times. The are the creatures real/are they not real/wait wut was good enough.
I just watched Dungeon Siege and it was roflicious. The dialogue is just as bad as you'd expect, except this time with fantasy cliches. The battles make no sense with things like ninjas shoot arrows with bells attached before doing synchronized jumping, catapults used in a forest battles, the main character seeming like a shaolin master despite only ever having farmed. Then there is Ray Liotta being as gay as Liberace. The plot twist you guess from the first 2 minutes of the movie (the main character is parentless, the king is old, his nephew is a giant douche, figure it out.)
Brilliant
