Is there a quality difference between the two, or is it just that there are a few games the 80G can't play?Originally Posted by wintersquall

There is, but it all upscales to 1080i. You'll get a few jaggadies on the 80gb that wouldn't be there with the 60gb. But your playing a PS2 game on an HDTV, it's gonna look like shit upscaled or not.
both replies above me are correct, but i'm not sure of the percentages on the 80 since i got the 60.
Ya, just typed in "Final Fantasy" and "Metal Gear" in here: http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus and liked what I saw. Seems like most of the early issues have been worked out with system updates.
Oh... time to look for a refurbished 60gig lolOriginally Posted by izembo
theres a list you can find the games that are supported, honestly most titles are going to be supported on the 80gb. however last i checked FFXI wasnt one of them![]()

HOWEVER
FFXI works fine on an 80gb PS3.
70% is undoubtedly lowballing it (Edit: Apparently around 88-90% now). They seem to fix a lot of titles with every software update.
edit: The site

you have an 80gb that you've put it on? cause ive heard from numerous people even as recently as a few months ago that the system couldnt play the disc.
Which disks, the originals, were they scratched up, etc? The vanadiel collection? If it was "as recent as a few months ago" (that's not recent) there have probably been software updates that corrected them. Even going into google and searching returns a plethora of successful 80gb installs, and the compatibility site cites full compatibility all around.
Edit: Here's a guide to install, but it was last updated in late november. Dunno if you need a newer patch for the new expansion or not...
Edit x2: Apparently all the expansions work but require a newer patch as the poster ahead of me has said.

To install it theres a free patch you need to download on the PSN store or w/e.
Bingo, it's an "update" for the PS3 to allow it to emulate having a PS2 HDD in the system.Originally Posted by kazen

Protip: If you really need a 60gb model (or something like that that's hard to find) go into a GameStop and ask a manager to search the region for it; at my old store the system would show systems as far as 500-600 miles away (or whatever you're looking for)... It sure beats going store to store, if you find a store that 'has' one just call to doublecheck (I knew someone that drove four hours to a store that 'said' they had one in the system but didn't because their inventory was off, lol) and you're golden
Easier to just email Corp Requests and have some sent to you. lolOriginally Posted by Jotaru
you're only supposed to email corp requests for prp replacement systems, and can get in some shit if thats not what you're requesting them for.
Oops, our DM was wrong then. We used it to get some 60 gigs lolOriginally Posted by izembo
I snapped up on of the 60GB refurbs on GameStop. Thanks everyone for your help. What convinced me was hearing that some of the graphics on MGS3 really lags up the 80gb emulation. That game rocks so my system has to play it.
I guess it's ironic that when I finally got my PS3 today, the disc drive was broken and didn't accept any discs. You win universe.
That sucks yo.
Also I lol'ed.
Return it and get the MGS4 bundle on the 12th - they are steadily fixing emulation bugs, MGS3 should be working perfectly soon.
