    If you made your own MMORPG what would make it great?

    Anyone who plays MMORPG long enough starts to wish things were different in the game, or that something was added or removed. If you were making your own MMORPG name a few things that would make it standout or great or different from whatever game you play now. Be as creative as you want, go as in depth as you want, list as many things as you want. I'll start.

    I would put a HUGE focus on character customization, almost endless dress up opportunities, nick naming your items, getting tattoos, lots of crazy hairstyles lots of color pallettes for skin teeth hair eyes etc.

    I would factor in combat bonuses for terrain & flank. Fighting in water or quicksand might prove difficult.

    I would let the terrain be permanently scarred or destroyed in some cases. If lightning struck a tree, that tree might split in half or cause a fire or something.

    in my mmorpg i would remove 21-24 hour repop timers on monsters to be replaced by a battlefield which tested skill to be rewarded with items which respect the amount of difficulty of the fight

    On topic:

    1. Arena where players could fight against each other, NPCs, or monsters and win rewards or bet items. Matches could be ranked and unranked.

    Like you said, major focus on character customization so no one character looks the same.

    - No loading zones except when going into a city (think WoW).
    - 24/7 PvP outside of towns (Lineage II)
    - GMs who aren't fucking retards bound by dumbass useless rules. Not saying that'd have free reign over everything, but they wouldn't be all "lol well there's really no proof that he's RMT even though I know he is, so I can't do anything."
    - A DECENT FUCKING STORYLINE RAWR!
    - Massive scale battles between races / alliances / guilds.
    - More things to do in-game, like in FF12. Bounty hunting, rare monster hunting, big boss monster hunting, whatever.
    - A built in in-game voice chat that doesn't blow ass.
    - Multiple playing fields. Earth, sea, sky, and space. (That would reaaaaaaaaally take some thought to not blow horribly)
    - Would not exclude people who want to play solo throughout the game from the "fun" fights. (fuck you SE)
    - Amazing soundtrack.
    - Clean but simple to understand GUI.
    - Item customization.
    - Player driven economy.
    - Player run forums / in-game "governments" (easily corruptable most likely, again would take a lot of thought to work properly)
    - Ability to import and edit your own in-game music and share it with others.



    I can't really think of anything else at the moment. Obviously pretty much all of these ideas are being used in MMOs already, I'd just use them differently. Have a Dev/Mod/in-game GM staff that isn't retarded and doesn't take YEARS to fix or upgrade certain things that are obviously needed, etc etc.

    World events - for example, the whole server has to fight against something or something will permanently affect the server from there on, like a meteor hitting the planet . If the meteor arrives, new monsters are introduced, the catch are they are tough! If you save the planet ,then all the players get boosted and rewards by the NPCs thanking their "Heroes" with lower prices on a range of things.

    Hmm, so essentially you need the entire server to team up against one mob in order to prevent a meteor from striking that will fuck up yo couches? Sounds scarily familiar...

    I like the customizing suggestions, I cant tell you how awesome it would be to put tattoo's and an afro on my elf, and the 21-24 pop thing would be cool too. Like 3 hour pop timmer and a chance of HQ everyday would be neat. I guess essentialy im maybe perfecting ffxi in my mind. I love the game, just extremly flawed, like the pretty much condoning of bots to get anywhere, or maybe a game where the gm's actualy did their job or gave a fuck.

    Spoilers: there are other ways to up your claim rate besides using bots. Most people are just too lazy and demotivated to really try since they assume that, in the case of Kings especially, an individual using a bot is much more likely to claim the mob than someone without one.

    I would also favor highly customizable characters, kinda like in Morrowind. I'd also want to get away from auto-combat and make it more freestyle and strategic. Players would even be able to modify special moves or develop them from scratch.

    Ideally, pretty much everything would be customizable.

    Making grinding more action packed. Granado Espada was great because even though it was a grind, you were killing dozens of mobs at a time. The only problem with that system was that you had to control 3 characters, which infested the game with afkers; but I think if the game was made with only 1 character in mind it would have been awesome. There's no reason a regular monster fight should be that much of a chore imo. Save the long epic fights for bosses, and make normal monsters drop like fodder. If the fighting is fun, I could care less about all these extra features people are listing off.
