Why did you pick an Abit mobo over Asus, Gigabyte or evga?

It was returned as the highest rated out of all of the Intel boards.

Its been in my experience that msi and ecs make shitty video cards but awesome motherboards. Anyways, I'd check to see if those capacitors on th Mobo you posted wouldn't interfere with the installation of the CPU cooler you've selected. Also, a hard drive would be needed. Nice build.

Ok, as someone who unfortunately works at fry's and sometimes has to use there shitty motherboards for repair, how the fuck can you say ecs makes awsome motherboards and keep a straight face? On average, we take 3-5 different motherboards before we even get one that posts when we use them as replacement parts.

I've used ECS boards in my last 5 builds. Reliable and great stability. For everyday office use and some light-medium gaming, they fit the bill nicely. That's awesome in my book. With "awesome" being subjective. Besides, Frys almost always gets refurbished/2nd hand gear so you can't really hold ECS accountable for it. lolfrys.

Its not the copper you'll be taking the dremel to. Just one of the clips that retains the fan on the bracket and only on one edge(this is entirely assuming that you have an issue at all). It took about 3-5 minutes to resolve the issue when I built my comp(i had the evga 680i mobo). Nothing too serious nor dramatic.

I'd try to stay in tier 1 or 2. That one has decent reviews though, so maybe it's ok.

don't buy an 8800 GT for $209 when you can get an 8800 GTS for $169, at the same site

and i'm using an ECS 8800 GTS 512 in the PC next to me, and it's great $169, you cannot beat that price, period.

the only downfall with going ECS vs EVGA is you can't do their step up program, and the warranty is only 1 year

fry's owns a large stock in ecs, so I can safely say we don't get refurbs from em. ECS, Emprex and Envision are all in the same family and we get em cheap. ECS also makes the fry's brand pc which is a time bomb waiting to explode.

That's crazy you can build a computer that nice for $500-$800 nowadays. As someone who has a 6-year old PC and wants to upgrade at some point, I wish I understood computers well enough to feel brave trying that myself. '-' (I know that makes me the minority on BG, but yeah I'd probably fry my motherboard or something equally idiotic.)

Won't argue with the Fry's PCs being time bombs though you should also add in user error/abuse/stupidity in the equation to be fair.

to put it mildly, I had to convince myself my job isn't to help the customer, it's to punish the retarded through rediculous price gouging. but yea, for every 1-2 people i hear say they love ecs, I get about 20 others wondering how we can legally sell such crap. If you ever want a good laugh, head over to hardocp.com and look for the review they did a couple years ago when they got to tour the ecs facility out in Fremont.

It's not hard. There are guides and forums to look to for help. You just need to be patient and careful.

Picking components is the tough part.

I've realized I don't need to spend 200 dollars on a motherboard... that helps a lot. Especially with the price of the processor and graphics card.

Aside from my personal preference for the E8400 over the Q6600 (there's very little in it, and really depends on what you'll use the machine for), that's a really good build in my opinion. Nothing stands out as a bottleneck and you haven't scrimped on any of the important parts.

if you're not going to overclock and just want to build a, pretty much, generic gaming PC with stock parts and stock settings, i'd totally get an e8400 over a q6600

i bought my Q with full intent of overclocking the piss out of it though, FSB wall @ ~475 pisses me off ><
