I didn't watch the elitew/e fights last night; safe to say Maeda/Torres was better than that whole card? lol

the first round was better. carano/young, most of lawler/smith was good though.Originally Posted by Deftscythe

I came, jens walking out to thunderstruck
Pulver looks to injured to go on much longer. Those elbows from Faber are so brutal.
Excellent fight. This should have been the main event of the CBS card.
great fight...both title fights were amazing. faber really impressed me tonight...he took some hard shots from pulver and just kept coming. he's so damn fast it's unreal.
sucks. I hope jens keeps fighting.
Just watched the fight. I was pretty disappointed with my local Sacto crowd. They were booing in the like the first minute of the first fight. They even were doing some booing when there was like 10 seconds of inaction of the Maeda/Torres fight. Impatient muthers.
Other random thoughts:
Torres continues to shine. He's got some crazy legs. I love guys like him love being on their back.
ROFL, i just saw that Chase Beebe lost his match on the undercard. For those who don't follow the WEC, he was the guy who lost his belt to Torres.
I was rooting for the cowboy guy only because I've seen him before on the Tapout TV show. He did pretty good and had the look of calm throughout the fight. I'm going to keep my eye on him in future fights.
I'm a fan of Uriah and Jens so I didn't know who I wanted to win. I just wanted it to not be one sided which it wasn't.
Jens took some vicious shots with a smile. Dude's a warrior. Unfortunately, his right eye was so messed up that he spent the last couple of rounds protecting it rather than focusing on kicking ass. I also thought he got a little tired in the second round. He spent a lot of energy doing some impressive escapes.
I can't stand watching highlights of Carlos Condit's fights. His pink pointy nipples are so nasty.
One last thought: I wonder if a CBS exec got fired tonight for being stupid enough to run with EliteSUCKASS.
It's ratings exceeded expectations by quite a bit and it was 1st place in the key male demographics. What looks like a travesty to established MMA fans is apparently more attractive to the mma virgins.Originally Posted by wyrmtung
it didn't exceed expectations that much...it did a 3.3...which is only slightly higher than what normally airs. it wasn't bad by any stretch, ratings wise, but it wasn't great either. i hope they realize they can't bank on freakshows and wwf aura to show mma now.Originally Posted by Blarg
Exceeding ratings on the first showing after a lot of hype doesn't surprise me. But now that everyone knows how crappy that league is, those ratings will drop like a rock.Originally Posted by noblemountain
I just picture some higher up in CBS watching last night's WEC fights and suddenly realizing that MMA doesn't have to be the crap they showed on Saturday. He then tells his admin to get the guy on the phone who brokered the deal for CBS so that the higher up can fire his ass.
What were the ratings on Versus anyways? They were hoping to break a 1.0 watch rate.
i dont know much about faber or the 145 class, is there any real competition at that level for him? and if not is there any chance he moves up to 155 to take on better challenges?
Probably the best fighter at that weight, Kid Yamamoto, isn't in the WEC for him to fight. I think Kid is signed with Dream in japan, but I would love to see those guys fight.Originally Posted by tyven
I think most of the good guys under 150 are fighting in DREAM. Hell, I'd love to see Faber fight Shinya Aoki (well, I just kinda like watching anyone fight Aoki) for the contrast in styles.Originally Posted by tyven
there's some good competition @ 145...just not in the US. he "could" move up to 155, but he'd be shorter and smaller than everyone. he has tiny little arms. he's talked about a move down to 135 to fight some japanese comp...but i don't see WEC being able to bring any of those real challengers in.
yea he bulks up from 130's to fight in 145. He still runs through most people in the weight class though, and is getting better. I like him, but damn I so wanted pulver to win.![]()
On a side note, this is actually the first time I watch a full WEC event live. Did anyone think that the blue mat + blue gloves were really mesmerizing and actually draw you into the fight even more than usual? I felt more concentrated watching this than ever before, including when watching the UFC. Blue mat > grey? Or am I crazy?
I think the WEC cage is smaller than the UFC's, which has it's pros and consOriginally Posted by Jyakku
