I -think- each state has a tenancies acts that have certain rules that have to be adhered to when a tenant leaves property behind. They legislate what to do with the property once the tenant leaves the home. You may have broken rules (I don't know) by just tossing it without asking. Again, before you go waiving legal papers in his face, have you lawyer research it, because you may find out that you were the one in the wrong, in which case you'll want to just say "fuck it", and give him his money back while hoping he doesn't ask where his shit is.

I mean, all I had to do was imply that I MIGHT ...THINK... about hitting a woman in some bizarre scenario to provoke illogical emotional responses. In regards to the actual topic, as other's have said, just keep a log of expenses. You'll likely end up in small claims if he's particularly stubborn, but have a fairly solid case.

Yes, and no.

To be a hypocrite I have to be feigning a publicly acceptable position, which I clearly was not. You cannot be a hypocrite by pretending to be an asshole when you are not. The implication of the word is that you are showing positive characteristics in order to win approval.

If your case is well-documented, I would personally try to take a percentage of their deposit. That seems only fair if they violated clear terms. If there were looser terms that were allowed more leeway, but you still feel they took a little too much liberty in the interpretation and you documented the excess garbage, I would still pursue it. If there were no terms and you have no pictures, I would just drop it. It's not worth the hassle, and the dude will probably argue that what he left was reasonable. I'm sure he wouldn't admit to lawyers/mediators/small claims court that he left a bunch of junk to be a dick.

I have witnesses to the amount of stuff left behind, especially my realtor. She came with me for a final inspection of the property. I also took a couple of pictures yesterday before I made this thread.

I just wanted some opinions on whether I should go after a few bucks or if I was blowing it out of proportion. I appreciate the non-derail responses. I'm still undecided with what to do, but I am leaning towards me blowing this out of proportion, however, considering this guy had ample time to move out his junk it was something that probably should have been done. Honestly, it just looks like the guy rushed the whole move-out process.

My apartment charged $50 a bag of trash if you left it after moveout, 90 bucks for touch-up paint that would have only taken a couple of daubs. I fixed it before I left so they couldn't bone me. I say you keep half his deposit.

My Uni did the same thing.

They give me a mouse infested room with peeling paint and cracked walls and the fuckers charge me over £100 when I leave to fix shit that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

They're still figuring it out. Apparently a vehicle registered to Marshawn was involved in a hit and run, so we don't know for sure if it was him driving (it probably was, and he'll probably have one of his entourage take the fall for it). It was Saturday at 1am in the morning on Chippewa/Delaware which is the downtown bar district. The female who was hit is OK and is already out of the hospital, but I'm pretty sure she's going to be one rich woman.
