Honestly, Penance's tanks were having hate issues practically from the moment they engaged, so I'm not sure if using them as an example is fair heh. Pretty sad when you lose hate to a BLM who's nuking for double digits half an hour into the fight.Originally Posted by LakshmiToralyn
I can't say too much in detail about tanking, but from a BLM standpoint, your BLMs should be wearing an absolute minimum of Wizard's Gloves/+1 and Elemental Torque. Nashira Crackows, Sorc Petasos and Merciful Cape are all good choices, particularly if you're lacking merits. I've heard varying opinions on the "best" INT/skill balance, you'll probably do some tweaking during the fight no matter what gear you go in with. Don't be afraid to try more aggressive gear if you're not getting resists, but keep in mind that you don't have the Blizz/Ice Staff crutch.
From a BRD (my normal Tia job) standpoint, there's a lot of things you can do to make the fight go smoother. I have my G15 keyboard set up to have a 2 minute timer, I hit it when Tia lands or flies and make sure to start singing the appropriate songs so the second one will land just as Tia changes status. I'm usually doing March2/March1 on the ground, March2/Fire Carol in the air with the other BRD doing harp-range double Ballad. If you're doing that setup, always sing March2 first, so your tanks spend as little time as possible with Carol on the ground and March1 in the air. Elegy2 should be on full-time, Lightning Threnody (easy to land since you should own a Terra's for Elegy) should be on whenever she's flying. If you do DoTs, Requiem's a bit of a pain to stick, but I'll admit I don't have the +4 flute for it. Lullaby's pretty unreliable /WHM, but it's saved my ass from pre-battle agro before. Oh yeah, BUY FUCKING STONESKIN GEAR. ~1k HP and capped SS means you're nearly guaranteed to survive any single AOE besides Flail, most double AOEs (wing -> TD, wing -> ga3) and the occasional rare triple AOE.
RDM/DRK stunning is dead simple, keep yourself hasted, she casts on about a 45s timer, which should be safely longer than your stun recast. Up to you whether you want to stun Blaze Spikes too or dispel it afterwards or just leave it up, if you don't have a ton of melees on, save yourself the enmity and leave it up. If you're the only/main stunner, only cast your refresh/hastes immediately after a -ga3 or spikes, if you get impatient and miss a stun because you were casting refresh, it costs more MP to fix than your Refresh will give over it's duration. Just not worth it.
Yeah, probably better to just stop casting for a minute or two to let your VE decay. Capped VE will take 2m45 to decay completely, but you probably won't have fully capped VE. Logging will usually only help if your tanks lose hate so Tiamat tries to eat you even though you aren't casting anything.Originally Posted by Ashira
Basically, if you log off, you don't reset your CE. Your VE will probably be gone though just because of inaction.
The only way you will get your full hate reset is if while you were logged off, Tiamat attempted to target you (meaning tank lost hate and you were supposed to be next but were out). Otherwise, you will retain your CE.
Kaeko's blog is a very good start if you're serious about Tia. Some random things
-Nin/Drk with full fire resist from meritting barspell whm is ideal
-Make sure your tanks keep shadows up at all times, Tia has this weird invisible double attack
-Tia has an invisible counter, lots of thfs will understand this. Lol.
-I would avoid Sam WS's until your tanks are comfortable, a well timed Roar could turn this fight into a mess
-During a roar, all blms must stop nuking and let tanks get hate again, atleast 2 flights befure resuming nukes
-If you get elementals, get blms to nuke
-Anyone c an kite the corse, dont need speed enchance gear
GL
Also make sure your Corse kiter does not pull with ranged attacks. If the ranged attack misses, you will not get any CE hate. When the Corse runs by the mages, if any one of them is resting, it will go for the resting mage and you will have to kill that Corse.
If you pull with ANYTHING other than ranged attack, you will get 200+ CE, and a ton of VE. This will seal hate on you to kite it away safely.
My favorite choice for this is THF/NIN. Pull with ninja Ichi tools. Doubles as Treasure Hunter and can selectively lower hate with Accomplice/Collaborator.
I've tanked Tia both NIN/DRK and PLD/NIN and personally I find PLD/NIN to be better. Tia can be pretty much a joke to tank either way. PLD/NIN is much better hatewise unless you are willing to use Sleep on NIN/DRK. I personally did not use Sleep just incase, so hate was hurting for me compared to my normal on PLD.
We also don't use many Melee on Tiamat. The most would be 1-2 SAMs or THFs Wsing. We also pull them off once it hits 25% just so there is no random Roar or anything. Ground TP moves should never be a problem, as long as you don't TP on her, even a couple WSs shouldn't give her enough TP to use a move. As PLD I don't even engage Tia just so I don't get hit with any counters and I don't feed her TP.
SMNs, BLMs and BLUs are the best damage by far.
