Re: Help me solve a merit dilemma.

I think I'm just going to wait for Nyzul relics and merit depending on which is better, Conqueror or Liberator. Assuming I can get two, of course. I got my Brave Blade last night and I'm going for Burtgang first, and getting two might just be wishful thinking.

Khrno: Remember when I say that I believe my WAR can outparse my DRK, I'm referring to either my Great Sword DRK or my non-merited Scythe DRK. A merited Scythe DRK versus my WAR would be different, I'm sure. That's why I'm teetering between going Scythe or Great Axe for merits, because from my experience they seem either equal or WAR is better by a slight margin.

Dant: I don't see why you say I should use Haub over Ares. E.Body over Ares, yeah absolutely. Maybe even Haub+1, but I sold mine. I almost always merit with double BRDs at Mamool, and if I don't have double BRDs I go to birds where I cap accuracy without Madrigal or Sushi anyway. Accuracy is never an issue, even at Mamool I'm over 85% and I'm pretty sure most of that 15% is either due to Wind Wall or Flash.

    @ Therin:

Just something I was curious about, do you have Askar body? I notice you use Brutal/Ecphoria/Chiv for DRG already, and I'm assuming you have Sattva for PLD...the main reason I'm curious is a Tourney Lance + Askar/Chiv/Ecphora/Brutal would bring you to a 6-hit, and I was wondering if that might outdo your current 7-hit Mezraq in merits, but I have no experience with Salvage gear yet so I'm not sure exactly how powerful Ares' is.

No, my Nyzul run priority system is a bit different so I'm not going for Askar body until last, since I already have Ares body. I wasn't really thinking about using a Tournament Lance over Mezraq mainly because well. . . I don't know, who does? I'd probably end up in the Gimp/WTF thread just because someone wouldn't understand the reasoning behind it.

Plus if I ever get D.Ring (yeah, right, lol) or Shadow Ring I'm switching to Rajas. :D

Yeah I understand that reasoning, lol. It was something I had contemplated before I inherited my friend's DRG(he has Rajas so it's a non-issue), I was going to level DRG myself but I could never give up Tamas for RDM. I'm sure there would in fact be some 'wtf @ Ares + 5k weapon' action going on, it just struck me as something that could possibly work well over the course of a few hours in merits though.

merit the job you're going to get merits with so you get merits faster. and out of the jobs you have listed, merit your war up. I personally parse best w/ axes on war (and you already have sword merited for offhand if you use axe/sword), but w/e you prefer. If you want faster pty invites and smoother ptys then go /nin, if you just want e-peen parses and you don't care about potential downtime, pls don't be in my pty.

I used to check them, but 9/10 times I didn't know the song and couldn't be bothered to look them up. Sorry.

Thanks for the edits, btw (at least I assume you did).

That's a really silly comment and you should feel bad for saying that. Whether Perdu or Moliones's is better is a debatable argument, but just like Thalassocrat vs. Mezraq, if one is better than the other for normal TPing the difference is minuscule. As soon as you pop Souleater, Moliones's walks all over Perdu though because you either get +2% HP damage or Haste +4%, Accuracy +7 depending on whether or not you macro off your Ace's Helm for Chaos Burgeonet +1 normally.

The base stats are arguable though:

2 base damage and 7 STR vs. 15 attack. Considering how much that base damage and STR adds to weaponskills and the ability to keep on Hecatomb Cap over Chaos Burgeonet +1 (which is a difference of another 7 STR plus DEX), the answer seems fairly obvious.

And if you're arguing Tredecim, well, get with the times. You can 6-hit with both sickles. You don't use a Retributor over Maneater, do you?
The only time it is arguable that Moliones is better than Tred or Perdu is when you leave SE up for the entire duration and use it everytime it's up. Unfortunatelly it doesn't work like that in the game.

All Moliones does is give you a slightly better WS boost every 5 or 6 minutes (slightly better as in N.head instead of AF1+1 helm)....the rest of the time you're losing out on damage.

Also for fights that last less than a minute (merits), you're going to do better with a Tredecim. Now on almost everything else that Perdu will be better.

Could you explain why? If a fight lasts one minute you're going to get about one extra crit for every three mobs you fight, and that's not counting the 10% chance that you would've hit a crit on that 13th hit anyway, or the 5-10% chance that your 13th hit just misses all together. I don't really see why what equates to an extra 33 damage per mob wins over the accuracy/attack bonus from Perdu or the STR/Souleater bonus from Moliones's (which adds more than 33 damage per SWING, not per fight, assuming you have 1500 HP and Souleater active).

Also, that's being generous because a one-minute fight is a long time for a double BRD merit party, and the shorter the fight is, the less you swing, so it seems to me like the exact opposite of what you said is true.

Lots of reasoning here. I believe the numbers are if a fight lasts less than 12 swings, Tredecim comes out ontop due to the autotargetting reset.

STR/Souleater bonus from Moliones's (which adds more than 33 damage per SWING, not per fight, assuming you have 1500 HP and Souleater active).
That's the point against Moliones...in 99% of the situations you're not leaving Souleater up so it's only 1 WS buff every 5 or 6 minutes.
