I guess he can be dark elemental. But when you fight him, should treat him like Shiva. Never resisted fire and always almost 100% resist blizzard. Elemental Seal blizzard, resist.

The way I read this was that all the new drops would be r/ex.. Let's hope so.
Byakko's Haidate and most of the stuff in sky is Rare/Ex but yet RMT can still find ways to make money off of it. I'm pretty sure it wont be to hard for them to figure some sort of way to make money off of the new stuff.

This looks like where Hydra/Cerb/Khim are fought. Would be interesting if you pop them in those locations. Imagine fighting the nm and the HNM spawns. Or hell, even someone fucking with you while you have Khim with the pop version.

actually, not only Odin is dark based but he's the Dark element Avatar.
in fact, both Fenrir and Diabolos are dark based while Odin represents Dark as a element much like Ifrit represents Fire. same could be said for Carbuncle who is light based and Odin who is the Light element avatar.

in FF XI, light and dark look on a higher tier than the standard 6 elements (look at SC for ex) and that'd explain why the struggle between Odin and Alexander appeared much more menacing than anything from Shiva, Ramuh, etc.

as for Zantetsuken, it'd work nicely since SMN already has a Dark AoE BP (from Fenrir), a % based damage BP. Odin's 2H would be a % kill BP, which would definitely suck on anything from Genbu on, but still owning Ronfaure rabbits.

How can you say that it looks like those areas just because it's in the same zone, especially when those areas are closed off and you can only get to them through zoning. It could be on an entirely separate island in Zhayolm/Caedarva and it could even be in Bhaflau Thickets instead of Wajaom Woodlands.

Khim looks the same because you can clearly see the ledge on the left. Straight ahead there is clearly a ramp going up towards an opening, just like Khims pop area. The cerb pic to me looks just like the wall people used to stand on before he drew in from there, and the hydra, well, you're right it could be anywhere.

People talking about unfinished ToAU content seem to be forgetting about the unused Assault maps. What are there, 1 for each except Periqia (which is like 3 or something)?

Well, you could be right, I'm just saying it's not fair to say it with such a certainty. I'm also pretty sure that the screenshot of Caedarva isn't enough of a pit to actually be Khimaira's spawn point (either that or 65 kills there and I didn't pay as much attention as I should have).

I need to find the image of an epic face palm right now, because that is what you deserve for your stupidity. If Odin is resistant to dark and blizzard type spells, and has death associated with him, what mob family would he be associated with?

Excuse me while I go find some aspirin so my brain stops hurting from the stupid.

As for the update... I think Isladar summed up my thoughts perfectly (Yes, even Mentok. Ooooo OOOOOOOOO ooouuuu OOOOOOOO!).

Yep, this pretty much summed up feelings when I read it also. I was prepared to wake up any minute, then I realized I was really at work, got depressed and accepted it.

    Here's to hoping!

Remember SE said this last July:

Ogawa-san & Tanaka-san: As for the new HNMs in Wings of the Goddess, as you know we can’t say anything specific but there’s a pretty good chance that there will be lots of new challenges like that with things that are difficult to get but will have a big impact on the game as drops. As for your comment on how lots of people are still camping in areas like Dragon’s Aery and other old HNMs it’s that over the years we’ve added new HNMs and as you do that, you have ones that are popular and then you have new ones and so some people go to those and when some people go to those less people are camping the older ones so more people want to go to those cause they think they have a chance. We feel that with all the new choices such as Assault and Salvage and also the old ones, people can choose which one they want, whether they want to camp or do they want to go into the instanced areas and fight for stuff.

I guess it all depends on what they consider a "big impact".

Who said Odin resisted dark element? Bio didn't get resisted at all.

You don't get resist message when you drain him. You get no effect message when you do like undead.

I'm probably getting whooshed here, but all the resists you describe can be because of him being aligned as an undead and doesn't neccesarily have anything to do with elemental alignment.

Anyway; looking forward to this update! :3

The notion of the NMs shown popping where the current HNMs pop is kinda silly because gee... half of most the zones in ToAU arent even currently used. When does an HNM shell go into Mamook? Arrapago Reef? Halvung? All those places could be used though it is almost a certain fact that the items obtained from doing whatever it is SE will have us do will cause the headstones to react sending all players to those closed off islands kinda like Bahamut or Ouryu.

They probably just used those backdrops because they look aesthetically appropriate for the monsters involved. One can hope they are bigger than they seem in the pictures - for HNMs they seem kinda puny.

Maybe they spawn the HNMs we all know and love as assistants or something.

Yeah. He can be Dark Elemental. That's fine, not arguing about that.

But when you are fighting him, best to treat him as an ice elemental.

Only different between him and an undead NM is that, well, you can't bind or gravity Odin.

Fenrir's AoE dispel is nerfed to hell on the avatar version, Nightmare's DoT is nerfed horribly too on the avatar version (try it out, it sucks >>), Ruinous Omen sucks completely and in general all the avatar moves that could be considered overpowered are reduced to an almost useless point.
I'm not saying i think we'll get Odin, Alex, both or none, just saying that this train of though isn't as valid as it sounds since it's been done with other avatars already :O
I said there were some differences, knowing someone would bring up Lunar Roar at least. But all the BPs are pretty much on par for their prime cousins, making allowances for the fact that you are summoning a weaker version of the avatar, and not the avatar itself.

So if we look at Odin, all we'd get are some weak aoes. Not that useful. How often do you really need aoe damage? Given the choices, I'd go with Alex. Magic Defense down, attack -25%, A single target heal that removes all debuffs, etc.

I think you're assuming these are going to be an 18-man endeavor. I definitely feel like we're looking at something that can be done with 1-6 people, judging from the event descriptions with which they provided us.
