Source? 15 minute time limit and no 70 BPs.. I'll admit I have underestimated SMN on a lot of the other things, possibly including this, but you have yet to list anything that SMN is unique in it's ability to solo(barring RDM, since we all know they win regardless). Sure, NIN can't solo BC20, but BST certainly can.

Meteorite is 55, and astral flow is devastating to mobs that don't resist at that level.

And like I said, there might be different classes that can do everything a smn can do, but not one that can do it all other than rdm. And even rdm will have a harder time with some things than smn.

You seriously underestimate avatar survival, I could do the kraken bc if he didn't regen or maybe even if I had 30 mins lol ><

/shrug, honestly it seems pretty even. NIN is just used as a solo job more frequently.

Biast is sleepable. BLM and RDM can easily solo it without even taking a single hit.

Personally I think only NMs actually provide sufficient challenge and 90% of the NMs in this game can be soloed by RDM, I have played most of the solo jobs mentioned above and no job ever comes close to RDM.

I'm pretty sure nobody is disagreeing with RDM being the best, we're arguing between NIN and SMN for second.

I think I have one that SMN can do that NIN/DNC can't.

    Golden-Tongued Culberry

Granted, the smn would be required to have a box lunch and possibly a poopbag, but he could do it. The basic idea is that instead of trying to keep the hate off of the smn, he loads as much as possible onto himself as often as needed (barspells would work just fine here). And just kite Culberry around the circle with Carby (or Fenrir if it's dark weather and you have your handy Smn horn) in tow. Three short days later you can claim victory and congratulate yourself for a job well done.

I don't think anyone argues that rdm is not currently the best job for soloing NM's, but my only point was that its a terrible job for soloing exp. It can kill stuff, but it truly is painfully slow.

SCH. Not for first, but it's gotta be up for competition on 2nd or 3rd place. Not speaking speed wise, or whatever, but we can solo XP, NMs, KSNMs, ENMs, prolly some BCNMs too. Could go into a whole spiel, but I suspect most of the people posting here get the idea

Edit: You'd think DNC would be up there too, with their evasion + curing.

    Re: Best Solo Job

In theory you can keep throwing carby on NM but it's not always practical in actual fight and the main reason is because avatar don't have the ability to hold hate. Take Fenrir and VV for example, unless you can run out of aggro range to recast carby all the time eventually SMN is going to accumulate so much hate from recasting avatar it will take too long for carby to build hate before the SMN is killed.

Smn soloing is essentially hateless soloing, the hate created by the auto-attack is enough to pull hate off the smn

This is certainly not true, SMN who exp on bomb type mobs will have similar experience, if you resummon carby within aggro range eventually the mob will ignore carby and come straight for you. All actions generate hate unless you can run out of aggro range.

If you want to spend 3 days there, NIN can probably 'run it out of mp' in 4-5 hours just kiting and deliberately letting -4 spells go off on shadows. Once it's 'out' of mp, it stops casting and it has no tp moves nor AI that allows it to melee so you just autoattack and afk. I use '' marks because it doesn't truly run out.. aspir still works after it hits that mode <__________<

you're assuming poison will be up 100% of the time. considering you will get resisted quite a bit (maybe not with best possibly enfeebling set?), the mp adds up, and you don't really have the option of spamming it, without risking running low on mp, or getting hit.

When i say Smn soloing, i dont mean BAD smn soloing lol

I solo'd/duo'd bombs from level 57 to 75, so i know what you're talking about. However, those periods (generally during avatar summon lag "You already have a pet."), the hate disappears after a few casts (or even the very next cast), and you dont have hate anymore.

Try summoning within 15 range next time when you fight a VT mob.

    Re: Best Solo Job

Wasn't the range for hate generation 25'?
I just wanted to say that THF as a solo job is very limited to the type of mobs it can fight because of magic and TP ablities. Also, there's more and more mobs in the game with accuracy set on ridiculous, even some really stupid ones. Even with all that, THF/NIN can do some very impressive things. Now if only it had a way to DD without giving TP... non-mage NM's without TP regain would be so much more doable.

That would be BAD smn soloing lol

But I have summoned a spirit to get something up so i could run away. Hate is a little shifty for the next couple casts, then its all good.

    Re: Best Solo Job

Know I'm bumping a rather old thread, but I find it strange that no one mentioned soloing XP and some NMs as MNK/DNC or SAM/DNC. There are videos from Genome and Uesugi on YouTube which prove it to be highly feasible.

Personally I soloed XP against Sea Puks as SAM/DNC with Polearm. It was only 3-4k an hour without ring, but still highly feasible. Also I had zero merits. Would have done better with Store TP, Overwhelm, and Polearm merits. Not to mention what would have been possible with a Soboro and a haste build.
