Yes, you said you'd buy from newegg. I suggest you don't buy EVERYTHING from newegg.

I suggest you try the Big 5:

    1) Pricegrabber
    2) Zipzoomfly
    3) Newegg
    4) Amazon
    5) Google/Ebay

If I didn't use the Big5 above my system wouldn't cost $2000.00 more like $2500~3000 seriously...

...but whats the difference between 32bit and 64bit?
32-bit is like PSX and 64-bit is like N64 >_> LoL

I'd suggest a dual boot setup with Xp-Pro and Vista, or ever better a triple with Linux!

Never built a computer before :X going to run vista, but whats the difference between 32bit and 64bit?
The primary difference from an end-user standpoint right now is the amount of RAM the system can address. 32-bit Windows can address 4GB of total memory, which includes the video memory and such. If you put 4GB of RAM in 32-bit Windows system you won't get 4GB to use, more like 3-3.5GB.

64-bit can address far more memory, but the downside, at least with XP, is that drivers and all were harder to get. Vista is better in that regard.

For your price range, there's a lot to look at. IMO, going all from Newegg for the parts you need is fine.

Unless you -need- 3 optical drives and stuff right off the bat, you might consider building with one and buying the others later to get better hardware elsewhere with your build budget.

A DVD burner can both read and write to dvds, unless you really need two.

    Re: Building a computer

That case... I don't like it at all. I build a computer for my room mate using this case and it has some issues. If your power supply as tons of wires coming from it, the fan at the bottom near the PSU is going to be a bitch. Also, your PSU's cables gotta be pretty long to plug into the motherboard (depends on the motherboard though so you may be safe.)

As for the dual raptors, I don't think doing Raid 0 with Raptors is all that worth it. If you want crazy speed maybe look into getting one of the newly released Velociraptor WD3000GLFS. Expensive, but Its somewhat better value than the raptors.

I am also curious as to why your getting 3 gigs of ram? Even if your going with a 32bit OS, its still probably better value getting 4 gigs of ram.

Everything else looks good though! Happy building!

I quickly put this together using NCIX.com, I sure you can find stuff that is a bit cheaper/better value. These are Canadian prices so I'm sure you can get them cheaper from American sites if you shop around a bit.

    Motherboard: ASUS P5K ATX LGA775 P35 DDR2 2PCI-E16 3PCI 1PCI-E1 SATA2 Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 Dual Core Processor LGA775 1.8GHZ 800FSB 1MB (You should be able to Overclock this to 3.00Ghz on stock cooling)

    HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive(can get a smaller one for cheaper)

    Video card: EVGA E-GEFORCE 8800GT 600MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card

    DVD-RW X2: Pioneer DVR-212D Black DVD-RW 18X6X18 DVD+RW 18X8X18 DL 10X SATA 2MB OEM DVD Burner

    Power Supply: Corsair HX520 CMPSU-520HX 520W ATX Triple 12V 40A Continuous 24PIN ATX Modular(probably can get a cheaper one)

Case: Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case 900 ATX 9 Drive Bay No PS Top USB2.0 1394 Audio

    Memory: G.SKILL F2-8000CL5D-4GBPI Pi PC2-8000 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1000 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

Total comes out to $958.46CND which is somewhat decent.
