    Re: Magic: The Gathering Discussion

I keep wanting to tell myself "Oh I should play draft tournaments again"

Then I realize that I don't have time... or money

but I loved my sliver deck in high school, had some fun times with that :D

Most people do, there's only so much well-drawn hentai about. I don't care though, there's also only so many cute drawings of elvaans.

I would pay money for that artist to draw some more FFXI stuff, that kind of style is perfect in every way hentai or not I actually enjoy the style of that artist too bad I deleted it a while back...

I played when I was younger, probably up until I was like 13 or so, I really enjoyed it, wouldn't mind playing it again but nobody I know even knows what it is lol.

My favorite deck revolved around an enchantment called Aluren, and creatures with come-into-play effects like Rishadan Cutpurse, Cavern Harpy, Soul Warden and Quirion Dryad. The thing was fueled by City of Brass lands and Birds of Paradise. Was a beautiful deck.

I started around the beginning of the games' release, loved the fireball kill deck, eventually made sliver deck that iirc was beast as shit lol.

Slivers could be sick shit man, though they were nowhere near as powerful the second time around, in Judgment was it? I forget, but the revival sliver set sucked.

    Re: Magic: The Gathering Discussion

I play typeII and extended at the moment. My extended shit is ganna rotate soon though QQ. I just got back from a tournament too. Didn't make top 4 -_-... But I did make top4 last night :D. I don't spend a whole lot of money on it, just tournament fee + a booster or two occasionally. I was able to make a R/G aggro type2 deck that does ok. Just need to learn how to keep a good hand and chuck a band one <_<... I seriously don't know how I lost to this one deck. Re: Magic: The Gathering Discussion

Me and my friends used to all play because the town we lived in was boring and there was literally nothing around unless you could drive and even then you had to spend 45 minutes to get out of the town and into a nearby city.

I remember I played a full green deck which was really fun. Treetop Scouts, Priests of Titania, Coat of Arms, Killer Bees, Alpha Status and basically any elves I could get my hands on. My memory is running short but it was a really easy deck to play wasn't much of a "combo" to it besides, pump yourself up fast and kill the opponent with overrun (trample now?). I remember near the end of my days before I quit I bought Mana Shorts and Hoodwinks and Boomerangs from some guy in the mall but I never got around to making the deck. It was basically going to just be a counter deck or something. Oh well

@Aurik, recursion in my MTG? No! haha

i liked to play magic but keeping up with the sets was too much. instead of time sink, it became money sink.

but yeah i love green weenie.. and booster draft was fun. i would do it again but like i said, upkeep for the sets that come out is too much for me.

I played from Revised release to Stronghold, then did some drafting during the Onslaught block with my old roommate. It's been a long time and I just didn't have the money anymore.

My three favorite decks were my discard deck (which my roommate managed to let it get stolen along with my whole trade folder), and then two silly decks aimed for 4+ players: Rabid Wombat deck intending to suddenly drop a 30/30 trample life gainer, and a Bazaar of Wonders/Eye of Singularity deck hoping to just piss people off

Same for me. Conveniently, they raised their prices around the time FFXI came out so FFXI became my new money/time sink! (Still much cheaper than MtG is/was though)

I'd still play casually if I had the chance since it's fun, but they closed most of the local places I used to play at. Highlander was one of the fun formats I played before I "quit", but I still follow T1 somewhat since it doesn't change too much which makes it relatively easy to follow.

I've still got my old of what were 1.5 decks lying around. Slivers, Astral Slide, Scion of Darkness / Uncommon Clerics (lol lifegain). And my all time favorite, Wizards. Last draft I did we went out and split for a box of prophecy, I drafted both avatars of woe out of the box, made about 50 bucks off that. I still love drafting the Onslaught / Mirrodin blocks, didn't like kamigawa too much, and quit after that hit.

Stopped like 3-4 years ago, though never really played seriously...since once you start fucking with tournament quality rares, the investment is just ridiculous...hell just reading about Tarmogoyf nowadays make me cringe.

I usually just play casual deck, with occassional drafting.

How many different types of decks and sets are out now? I started playing in alpha and stopped a couple series after iceage.

    Re: Magic: The Gathering Discussion

Deck archetype really depends on which format you are playing, since Vintage (all cards minus ante and banned cards), Legacy (Vintage minus the restricted cards iirc), Extended (Last 4? block and 2 most recent ___ edition), and Standard (Last 2 blocks and most recent Xth edition) have their own set of cardpool to draw from.

This is not counting casual, limited, and multiplayer format, which would have their own extra rules and strategy.

    Re: Magic: The Gathering Discussion

I'm playing MTG regularly since 10ish years. Had a cheapass deck at first who never won
Then did some decks for fun: a BBQ with only direct damages, a land eater with dingus eggs,...
Playing way less since some years but we all kept a T1 deck with friends so we can do some duel when we feel it; and got a 300 cards tower in a corner for some giggles.
I do have fun with my current deck, bicolor black/red with normal cards you'd await in it, lightning bolts, hypnotics, moxes, wheel, sinkhole, dark rituals, some newer cards like terminate... nothing surprising when you play against it; but enough powerfull to destroy any kind of deck

This is how I feel, the game is just too expensive to play in tournaments. There are some decks that are relatively cheap to put together I guess, but even they end up splashing green for Tarmogoyf. Honestly, fuck Tarmogoyf.

    Re: Magic: The Gathering Discussion

I started playing sometime between Fallen Empires and Ice Age, and stopped shortly after Visions came out. I tried to pick it back up again sometime between Marcadian Masques and Nemesis, but it wasn't quite the same. I remember I used to be really good in constructed deck tournaments w/ my little black deck. I had a blue/white that was really good too, but depended too much on luck with cards drawn. I played a few sealed booster tourneys or w/e, and used to have a lot of fun.

Money well spent; I just wish I could find someone who'd buy all my cards today.
