    Homebrew-22

Here we go. This is a project for amateur/aspiring game devs to get together and try to make a game. However ambitious the game project ends up being, the goal here is to:

    1. Have some fun and make a fun game
    2. Learn and practice stuff in the process, in your own specialty and in teamwork
    3. Gain "real-world" and concept->product experience as a resume builder

So with that, we're looking for volunteers! Having some kind of related skill is necessary- this isn't gonna be an opportunity for a bunch of strangers to make your game idea. Programming, 3d graphics, 2d graphics, animation, that sort of thing. I can definitely say at least one music/sound guy will be good to have, and a really good writer may be desired as well (depends what we come up with). But don't worry, no one here is a professional game dev (yet!), so especially as the project moves past some of the initial stages, there should be opportunities for a variety of talents and skill levels- if you can't program for 3d environments, you still might be able to help out with power-up or item systems; if you can't do 3d models or animation, you might be able to help with sprite-based stuff/UI graphics. Who knows, the project might not even be a 3d thing, just giving examples.

That being said, we obviously can't be too large of a team, and this is somewhat of a commitment- I know I definitely want to see something finished. Just post if you're interested: tell us what you can do, link some examples if you'd like, and some contact info (can be PM'd to me if you'd like). When we get a group to start off of, we'll figure out some kind of forum situation and go from there (I have some webspace I could probably set up a forum on; ftp on it as well).

    The Team:
    (so far)

    Programmers:
MisterBob- CS degree, pretty much any language

    Zhais- Flash Actionscript, C# experience.

    Lazysmurf- some c++ experience

Maguspk- "I'm a programmer, currently getting my Bachelor's in Computer Science but programming is my strongest aspect. I know a bunch of languages including but not limited to Ruby, Python, Java, C++, Assembler, etc."

Tajin- "I'd like to give it a go, I know C and some C++.

Me and a friend did a videogame (awful shit) as graduation project, so I know a little bit on how the stuff must work."

VZX- lots of experience, including 3d.

    Art Assets:
Beckwin- BFA (hobo degree?), experience with modeling and animation in Maya (up to 8.5). After Effects and Premiere experience as well. Basic Photoshop skills. Traditional media: drawing specialty. http://www.danisbell.com to see some of my stuff.

Moosey- Associate's in Computer Graphic Design. strengths are in video effects(AE) and 3D animation(Cinema4d/Mudbox) w/ intermediate photoshop/illustrator skills. Can also work on the design portion, storyline/quests/dialogue/etc..

astrael- renaissance person, longtime interest in homebrew. art, music, some programming too.

    Other:

    Saga- writing

Genosync- bit of coding, bit of testing, bit of ideas, bit of yelling

    That doesn't seem wise.

We regret to inform you that there will be no beta test due to ps2 limitations.

If I were you, I'd start a fresh thread in General. If 'The Team' disagree, they can act accordingly, eh?

Here's a link to a project I did for a class programming in a GBA environment. Documentation and the emulator version that works best with it is included. If you use a more recent version of VBA the sound and graphics will do wonky things >.>

From what I can tell right now, anyone with experience integrating art assets into a game/program environment would be very valuable.

    Re: Homebrew-22

Design, imagination, minor all-around everything (- 3D visual anything, can't do shit in 3D) else, HR, PR, etc

enough all-around knowledge to be able to actually put together a design spec that's worth a damn

numerous contacts for all aspects (if something legit is in place first to be able to show, have to have something physical to show, 'hey, this might be worth your time')

    testing, debugging, etc

you know what I'm able to do, beck, and just remember that even if it's not too technical in nature, you still need a couple ppl around to make sure that everything is running smoothly and works together, and it comes together in the end to make a polished finished product.

    Re: Homebrew-22

We're looking pretty good to get things rolling. Could probably use another art person, but that can be filled later, as could additional programming ppl that may be needed. But if anyone is still interested in taking part in this, feel free to PM me and we can see how things are stacking up.

    Current tasks:

    1. We need a name. I have webhosting available; I'll get us a domain and phpbb set up.

    2. Programmers: Kick around what you're all capable of and what you'd want to deal with on that end of things. 2d/3d, turn-based/real-time, language, etc. This will really help us as we come up with a concept for the game; don't want to be asking you guys to do the impossible.

Type of game? (Or is that undecided)

    Re: Homebrew Project

Currently undecided. I'm figuring the capabilities on the programming end will dictate genre direction. We'll also need to consider what genre can lead to desirable level of polish and timeframe for completion (a glitchy dynasty warriors clone or epically long sandbox RPG might not be good to cut teeth on).

    Re: Homebrew-22

gonna toss up some team name ideas before I crash:

    Brew-22
    Thrown Together
    Believe It!
    From The Tubes

throw "games" or "studio" at the end of any of them. feel free to add more, but I need to have something pretty quick to get a site/forum up and going.

    Re: Homebrew Project

Me and a friend did a bunch of video game projects similar to the one you want to do. We were writting a 100-200 pages .doc covering every aspect, programmed the basic gameplay using simple 3d model or shitty sprite and gave up at this point every time. I don't know what your expectation are, but lower them as low as you can before jumping it, unless you can find decent 3d programmer.

If I wasnt lazy, I would probably join, but it's way too much work. Developping the concept is fun, but implementing it (especially the first time) require an effort that is usually too big.
