oh man, I kill myself. anyway, forums are up. Team people/those interested in the project should register ASAP, and I'll give appropriate access.
I'm trying to think of something smart and funny to say even though I know you completely did it on purpose, and everything I think of just ends up backfiring on me, big time, so yeah, nevermind.Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin

I've got 1.5 years of Java experience (lol, it's a bit rusty too, been a year since I did anything) and I'm starting college this year going into Computer Science.
I'm interested in learning C++ and Python, and I'm willing to experiment with other things too.
I doubt I can be of much help considering my inexperience, but I'd like to gain some experience and if there's anything I can assist with (I'm willing to, and I want to learn C++ and other languages) I'd be glad to help.

Julian, if your Java experience was fairly broad you should be able to pick up Python in less than a week easy. My boss last year bought me this book which had you programming in Python but making simple games, it was really entertaining actually and since you really had an idea of what you were programming you could experiment and tweak to learn more without thinking you were learning. I'd recommend it, it's called: Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner. Although I was far from an absolute beginner so I didn't really read the book I just went through, looked at the chapter projects and kinda just programmed them and when I hit a roadblock I just looked up the information in the book. There's also a nice little book called Python 101 I believe which is a great reference. I dunno if online or books is more convenient for you, I got Python 101 from the library of my school though. I doubt we'll be programming in Python though, if we did I'd probably convince the other programmers to use Ruby instead because Ruby is the shit.
Beckwin, I registered on the forums. I like the Woosh name a lot but I also liked the sound of Believe It! and Throw Together, dunno why.
hah, well if Whoosh wears out it's welcome we can always change at some point, but I'm more interested in getting the game-making processes going.
also when you guys register, do the contact info thing and programmers should start discussing the pertinent stuff.
gonna try to plan some kind of IRC pow-wow in the next few days to crank out a concept to work off.
Shameless bump.
Thanks for the advice, will look into it soon.Originally Posted by Maguspk
Anyway as for the project: I can't really offer myself as a "full programmer" but if I could just be kind of a "Junior Programmer" and not get in people's ways that would be cool =x Also, if we do end up doing an RPG I'd love to help with ideas and such.
Bump for a couple reasons:
-For anyone interested, project is looking to be a top-down shooter with some rpg-ish skill/powerup progression and the game will be pretty strongly story driven. We're shooting to make it in XNA.
-I wanna round up the team this weekend to get some things rolling. Not a ton of work or anything, but more or less just planning out the technical side so people have tasks to pick up as their free time allows. I've got the main ship model pretty much done, so we can definitely start some visual prototyping, I think.
Just curious, but are you still looking for team members?
depends what you can do! kinda chock-full on story/design people, pretty good on programmers, could maybe use more art people.
