Motherboard and AC Adapter problems?

So, I just had a second power adapter shit out on me today with my Inspiron 1420. I contacted Dell and they said since this was the second time, they would be sending a technician to replace my motherboard as well as the power adapter.

Because I'm not computer savvy, I was just wondering what the connection between the two might be that they would want to replace the motherboard as well?

Could be a short circuit, dodgy connection, that kind of thing. They probably know that whatever mobo they sold you comes from a shitty batch or something.
