Re: Definitely a tough decision. Personal question.

i skipped from the first page because i have a bunch of things running but i just wanted to say that up until 11am yesterday i was on the second week of a pregnancy scare (scared that my ex who i can't work things out with was pregnant), which was one of the worst things/feelings to ever happen to me, and even i right now would say it'd seem foolish to get that procedure done at your age. i mean i felt like i won the lottery yesterday and i'm still saying you shouldn't rush into something like that. use rubbers or make a mess or whatever, common sense is all (which i was lacking at one point).

This is all an issue of personal preference.

Being a 19 year old female, quite a few years ago I decided that I never wanted children. Now whenever I bring this up to people I get the "Oh you are so young, you will change your mind!!!"

I doubt that that will happen any time soon. Disliking kids is sort of something that runs in my family. I don't mind being an auntie or watching the neighbors kids for a short time, but I have zero desire to have a child of my own.

I know that most doctors won't do any sort of surgery until you are around 25 or so, so until that point in time I take birth control and be responsible.

That's ridiculous - let her know I'll provide her with much fresher, higher-quality stock for half the price, home delivery and personalized service.

    Sorry I couldn't resist.

Maybe your viewpoint on children stays the same and maybe it doesn't. Just keep in mind that the person you are at 19 is going to be different when you are 25 and different still when you are 30. People's personalities don't really "mature" (for lack of a better word) until their early 30's.

I thought I knew it all at 19 and figured I would be the same way as I got older. I didn't believe people when they told me at 19 that I would have a different outlook on life. But looking back, I can see that dammit it's true.

Re: Definitely a tough decision. Personal question.

It shouldn't take you 30 years to figure out what you want, unless you're a completely indecisive person whose opinion on a matter changes every single year, and if that's the case I don't think you should be making decisions in the first place because then you don't truly know what you want and if your decision has already flip-flopped around a dozen times then how can you know that you won't change your mind again?

That's even worse than the teenage mentality of "I'm 18 and I know it all and I'm ready to kick the world's ass". What you people are saying now is "I can be any age and have a spur of the moment thought and that must be absolutely right because I know everything all the time!"

people change their opinion because their situation changes. when people get older they tend to have more money. when people get older it's not as easy to make close friends. when people get older some good friends become less close, whether it's because they need to move away for work, they lose time to a significant other or whatever. when people get older they start losing relatives.

when those things happen to you, your opinion on love and family may change from what it was before.

that makes no sense whatsoever. acting on spur of the moment thoughts are fine as long as the action is not something permanent and/or life altering.

I think it's pretty sad if the reason you want to have a kid is because you're lonely.

Fight it now but you will see when you get older that your elders are right. There are a ton of life experiences that a person hasn't yet gone through at 19 that changes one's perspectives on life. I am not saying every view on life changes.

(Although I have no idea what you are saying in that last sentence.)

Wow...I'd like to think I was as a complete dumbass as you when I was 18. I don't mean that as an insult, but I know how far I've progressed as a person in merely a year's time (and how much if an ignorant dumbass I was then). Im 24 now and I can say I've matured and grown further in the past 5 years than I have in my first 19, and my view of relationships (both sexual and platonic) and my view of people have taken a 180 degree turn.

My only advice to you Krye is to honestly save everything you say on these forums right now in a little folder. Come back in 5 years and hopefully get a laugh out of it. Honestly I'd question how I was growing as a person if I DIDNT disagree with how I viewed the world and how I made decisions 5 years ago. The point isnt that you're constantly changing your view of things, it's that you acknowledge the fact that you'll know that much more in 5 years than you do now. Doesn't the concept of growing as a person, becoming smarter and possibly disagreeing with your younger self because of experience excite you? I know it does for me. What scares me is being the same person I was 10 years ago.

Hmmm, my change of thought was definitley not spur of the moment. One doesn't really cover all. Experience comes at you at all angles.

And there will be some people who will never want or like children...obviously children and serious relationships aren't for everyone. But perceptions change due to enviornment and circumstance. That's why people are saying, it's ok to not really know about this right now. But if you think you know for certain, just be careful, because lots of people change their mind during later stages of life.

I think you misunderstand the basic concept of wisdom; they more you come to learn about your own mistakes, the more aware you become to the idea that things you currently hold as absolute may themselves be mistaken. That's science and reason at its most basic. Nobody makes up their mind forever because it reeks of "I'm not open to something new being right."

Thus, kids at 19 who say "never" are laughed at. There's no fucking way you're sure of something forever and ever at 19.

Also, about changing opinions on life, I understand what you mean by that. I have always been against the "War on Terrorism," and I hate the way political and popular opinion tends to sway with the majority. But being narrow minded when it comes to growth doesn't make you have a stronger foundation.

In that case, when you're 40 you're still gonna be a faggot with discolored hair that likes little girls (edit: little boys?). Bet you can't wait.
