Ixion isn't an avatar, but it could be a TP move of his.

Or it's can be an HNM class mob with an Astral Flow, ala Bahamut.

Except its a Job ability animation because of the way the taru model distorts when he's finished casting.

I'm pretty certain there are spell .dats in the game that affect animation as well. As in the effect of the spell itself and the end of the casting animation are linked together. I don't remember which offhand, i'll have to go dig them up.

If this is a spell/ability that only Ixion can use, it would make sense that it's tied to the creatures animations and would distort a player model.

Then its a spell a player can't cast (death, plague, virus, confuse, etc.)

It doesn't have to be a spell, it's probably a TP ability like Fulm, Gates, etc.

The best example i can think of is Cosmic Elucidation. If you .dat swap it into your game to replace something like Gekko, it will be a mess unless you are, or race change yourself to, Hume. The visual effect is linked to Tenzens character animations, and Tenzen is Hume.

Ixion could just have access to spells we can't access like Thundaga IV and Thunder V (Totally viable since he's supposed to be ultimate lightning, ya?).

Either that or it could be like the previous installment of HNMs and be an uber-move that becomes accessible after reaching a certain % of health.

Yah, i was never disagreeing, i think it's definitely an ability. Just saying that there are also spell effects in the game linked to casting animations that can cause player distortions.

But 9/10 they're Job abilities and not actual spells that can be casted by PC's. Thus why they distort. But whatever, I'm dieing to see what they're adding. Praying that his materials would be turned into another BST JSE

My pitch is that the horn will be used to make a Lance for DRGs that is on-par with, if not better than, Gungnir. Every Lance they add gets a little bit closer...
