I definitely 2nd this comment. My friend got the new Verizon phone with the touch screen and all it does his piss him off. You can't press it with your fingernail, you have to use the skin part of your finger. You have to press it relatively hard. It didn't with any sort of 'stylus' or 'pen' for selecting things on the screen. Not fat finger friendly whatsoever.

    Your fingers are too fat.

To obtain a special dialing wand, mash the keypad now.

i can't use my fingernail on my ipod touch screen, flesh part of finger only. multi-touch capabilities rock though, iphone/ipod touch still needs java+flash support to truly make this 100% awesome

with the dataplan, i wanna be able to go to work, pop out my iphone and watch my baseball games (i have mlb.tv package) in safari, right now i can't do that due to there not being any browser support for flash/java script

Adobe announced that they will finally work on Flash for the iPhone and so did Sun for Java. The SDK is making this possible.

As for MLB, did you watch the keynote for the WWDC? MLB did a demo of a new app they are doing for the iPhone. Here's a clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D7SMIfHdYo

I was really stoked when this announcement was made.

But now...I mean...I'd be spending over $500/year (phone+plan prorated over two years) MORE than my current plan to get 150 fewer minutes and half as many texts per month.

    I mean, I <3 the internets, but...

Ah 4-year old free phone on shitty T-Mobile...looks like I'm stuck with you for a while longer...

wouldn't really worry about the txt problems, as there are probably going to be 3rd party installer apps that will allow you to use the internet capabilities to send SMS messages to other cellphones, rather than use your own SMS functions, saving you the money you'd spend on a txt plan

also, there are IM programs for iphone (Installer apps), that are awesome as hell, as long as the 3g connection doesn't go into an idle state or whatever, and keeps the IM clients open while the iphone screen is clicked off, would be awesome

True, but Apple isn't bending on their 0-background-task stance. You can get around it for some apps by jailbreaking (I've heard of sshd running on iPhones), but Apple's primary concern is and always has been a consistent user experience: they don't want developers fucking up their precious device with battery-sapping and misbehaving applications, so Apple forces you to design apps that terminate when you switch tasks.

Honestly, I think they should just let users do whatever the hell they want with their device.

i assume he didnt get the voyager... because i can use my finger nail, pen, stylus, finger, whatever and it responds, i'm still getting used to it but it is <3 <3 <3 <3

    and mobile TV is sex too... now if there was only a pr0n channel>.>;

the only thing i dont like about my current phone is the lack of IRC and SSH for BREW, but thats verizon's fault, and even though i;d LOVE to have them, i can live without them

i'm happy with my separate ipod and t-mobile krazr, fuck all that noise. t-mobile has a bad rep some palces but in minneapolis i have better reception across the board than i had with verizon. that rate hike from at&t should really send up a big ?!? to those of you planning to switch over just for that, especially if you're paying an ETF to do so - ETFs won't be even legal soon enough from what i hear.

my way's simpler, cheaper, i'm not crippled if one goes down AND i don't have to deal with at&t "customer service"

if i could just use an unlocked one, i'd pick one up when they hit 32G like above poster said. it's a very nice piece of tech, but not worth the cons imo.

    I got confused by this...

"(Up to 3 additional iPhone lines can be purchased for $39.99 apiece, or $129.99 each on the unlimited plan)."

I wanna have 3 iphones on the family plan total, so 2 extras....do I need to pay a extra $80/month for the 2 extra phones on the plan? or just a one time fee?

GPS support? Very, very nice. I was planning to buy a Blackberry for that but I guess I'll wait for the new iPhone now.

Eh... I am tempted to drop T-Mobile for the iPhone 3G. I just called my customer service agent to see when my contract ends (11/20/08! woo!). The representative told me T-Mobile is rolling out their 3G network this fall as well as about 10 new phones that would utilize it.

I believe one of them is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_E90
    http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_e90-1857.php

Which is so much more superior to the iPhone. It has everything the iPhone 3G has and more, its just not as well designed, slick, or pretty. I don't mind so much though. If T-Mobile rolls out their 3G data network I'll totally be staying with them and using an E90 (unlocked if not offered through T-Mobile.)

I'm also in this dilemma if I decide to get the iPhone this Friday.

    Black Pro's:
    - Back is the same color as the front.

    Black Con's:
    - Fingerprint, oil, etc. magnet http://img229.imageshack.us/my.php?i...2008010jq8.jpg
    - Scratches or any other damage will be easier to spot.

    White Con's:
    - May discolor after awhile?

Honestly, I was all for the 3G iPhone up until a few days ago, but there are so many other nice phones in the pipeline (BB Bold 9000, BB "Thunder", HTC Touch Pro, SE XPERIA X1) I might just wait... or I can just get the iPhone to play with for a few months.

My EDGE was always very slow, and 3G made internet totally usable now without wi-fi! It's nowhere near as fast as wi-fi though... I think AT&T's servers are hit hard lol...

The GPS is really nice as well, and the apps made it awesome (although you can get the apps with the old iphone too).

Honestly, Ive been waiting till the 16gig 3G iphone came out to get one and got the last one in tucson (literally last store that had them and last person in line to get one lol). As for my results:

    ITS AMAZING.

Its one of those things that you wonder how you lived without once you get it. Its not a "neat phone" or nifty ipod upgrade, its a new way of connectivity and experience.

    1. The interface is spectacular, vivid, intuitive, and just damn cool.

    2. The web browser is fast (with 3G or wireless it lags very little) and very easy to manage. Its as easy to surf the web on this device, as it is to surf at home on my cpu.

    3. The apps are killer. Streaming radio, cool games, instant access to itunes, news, weather, friend locater and location based networking and event finding.

    4. Oh ya, its an awesome video/music Ipod.

Having all my friends pics and contact information in my phone, with geotagged pics so i can use the great GPS system/apps to get anywhere I want, or ping them with the Loopt app and find out where they are at any given second and what restaurants or bars are nearest to us is just too cool.

Getting lost on the way home last night and pulling out the iphone at 3am and getting a hybrid satelite/map view and guiding directions back to the highway was pretty awesome too.

Just overall really happy with this, by far the coolest and usefull thing I own.

    I'm debating....should I buy a 16gig now? Or wait to see if a 32gig model appears?

16gigs really isn't enough for me

Im betting 32 gig wont be out for another 8 months or so, just get the 16 gig and youll be eligbile for upgrade a few months later.
