i called at&t told them everything thats been happening with it and they said that if it keeps happening to it i can get it replaced with the same phone but if you go to one of the corp offices then you might be able to squeeze your way into another phone..... i havent done it yet but im gonna go there soon i think.... i figure if you just tell them that this phone absolutely sucks and you cant stand it they might let you pick something different but who knows

    Edit....

went there today.... they told me i had to have problems with three different replacement phones before being able to switch whatever though lol ILL FIND PROBLEMS!

Has a way to unlock these phones for other services been found yet?

Why would you do that anyway? AT&T 3G is incompatible with T-mobile's 3G (and it's almost non-existant...)

If you have it jailbreaked, you could download AgileMobile via one of the installers. It supports the major IM clients.

AIM is in the AppStore, there should be a link to that on the main menu on yer phone. It used to suck pretty bad, but they just updated it today or yesterday? And it says they fixed some of the bugs.

    Say, is the appstore worthwhile?

I'm considering plopping down $10 to update my Touch from 1.4.1 to 2.0 (to be inline with the 3g iPhones), but not if it has jackcrap in it.
(or stuff I don't already have better jailbreaked-alternatives to)

Oh god yes. The update is so worth it. You get access to all the Apps the iPhone does. As long as you're in the vicinity of wifi you can use all of the Apps as if it was the iPhone.

My office and university campus has wifi everywhere so my iPod Touch may as well be the iPhone.... but you know, without the phone.

I have facebook, yelp, aim, twitter, weather, google maps, pandora radio, box office (rotten tomatoes widget), youtube, ect.

Its worth it if you have access to wifi.

Thanks! I posted that before I synched up my iphone (was draining the battery fully before i charged it). The AIM app works pretty well, I havent run across any glitches aside it sometimes not connecting to the network when I definantly do have a signal. Only thing I'm not sure about is that it leaves u auto-connected even after u exit the app (you can change this) and I hope it isn't a battery whore.

Aside Loopt, AIM, Midomi, Remote, any other programs you reccomend getting?

Shazam is so much better than midomi (unless you're into humming the song and letting it recognize)...

    Edit: my favorite apps:
Yelp, Facebook, Twinkle, Pageonce, Shazam, Box Office

    Games: Hold'em, Aurora Feint

For free stuff, I recommend TapTap, very addictive.
Labyrinth LE looks fantastic on iPhone, and the controls are much easier than Super Monkey all or Crash Kart (have both).

Midomi vs Shazam, Midomi wins hands down imo.

The Facebook have more advanced function the the usual safari iphone version (can tag photos etc.....), highly recommended as well.

See I like Shazam myself, though I admit I haven't used the other one yet. xD But those kinds of things are really awesome to impress coworkers with. These two guys I go to lunch with, they were talking about some song playing in our restaurant and I just held the phone up and got all the information they wanted about it.

What you guys mentioned is about all I have myself, though. Taptap is pretty fun but it's hard to see the cues sometimes if you have big fingers. As mentioned on the previous page, the VNC Lite thing is pretty cool, albeit mostly useless due to the lag time.

I should make an app called FapFap, whose sole purpose is to bring the FoD thread to your iphone.

I used VNC to play FFXI from my iphone, and took a pic:

Then I did it again, and instead of taking a pic of the iphone, I took screenshots on the iphone, then pasted them into a "clean" iphone image and put it all together in an animated gif.

    Holy fucking shit. Two things:

    1) Tutorial please, or a link to one.
    2) Could you actually see your battery bar moving down to 0 over a span of 30 seconds?

It isn't much more of a drain on the battery than anything else, really, since its your computer that's doing all the work. All your iphone is doing is sending commands to the computer, and getting screenshots back.

    1) Download and install a VNC server (I used http://www.uvnc.com) on your computer
    2) Download and install MochaVNC from the App Store on your iphone
    3) Change windower launch.ini to a resolution of 420x380
    4) Using MochaVNC, connect to your computer.
    5) Start up POL and run FFXI (this has to be done after connecting, because the act of connecting/disconnecting flickers your monitor for a second which causes POL to crash)

Both UltraVNC and MochaVNC are free, and quick to install. The only thing you might have to do is go into your router settings and set up port forwarding. In the case of UltraVNC, set up port 5900 to be forwarded to port 5900 of your computers internal IP (e.g. 192.168.0.x), and in MochaVNC you will connect to your router's IP (as seen from the outside, try www.whatsmyip.org).

You can play with the UltraVNC properties (be sure to set your password and login settings), and you can change whether to poll the entire screen, or just the active window, etc. to increase the speed/reduce bandwidth.

You could just scroll/zoom in on a full sized windower window, rather than change the resolution to 420x380, however then everything would be too tiny to read or see and you'd be constantly zooming in and scrolling around. If you set the resolution to 420x380, then you get a more compact but readable display, as shown. Plus, the VNC only has to send you updates on a 420x380 portion of the screen rather than a 1900x1620 portion.

Disclaimer: Inputs are a bit awkward and the framerate sucks, although on wifi and some tweaks to the VNC settings, it's not entirely unbearable. You can move with the mouse or the keyboard, but the keyboard takes up half the screen, and you'll have to do macros by hitting ALT or CTRL (to "activate" the key) then the number to be ALT'd, etc. so it's not exactly something you can realistically expect to play and react quickly on. But, you can chat, /sea, etc. just fine.
