it cant be complicated. My assumption while he tilt His head forward( making his horns lowered), you would need a critical hit /WS to take his horns off thats it.

What dmg were you using?

They were primarily using SAM/THF, tank in front, tank in back, old school gods style.

I didn't notice the horn fall off cause he had rained lightning on me, and I backed up real quick like.

if i remember correctly it didn't use any of the lightning charge moves after it broke, but we didn't have much time cause it died pretty soon after.

and yeah, frontal damage returns to normal after the horn breaks.
