Only an idiot would put that up for a 1g sale, lol. If I was gonna self sell something like that, at bare minimum it'd go up for 10m and I'd pay the AH fees for it.Originally Posted by Tyrath

Actually, that's not the saying, you great ffxi businessmen. Here are some other quotes to ponder since you like these things obviously.
The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell.
There are so many men who can figure costs, and so few who can measure values.
A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.
#1 not a business. #2 the man who measures value doesnt get as much money as the ones who measure costs, so screw him
But only a retarded douchebag would measure just one.Originally Posted by Juront

Are they retarded or doing it to L1 things?
So very few measure the true opportunity cost of what they sell, and end up losing far more than they comprehend.
Ah true, I google'd it and I must have been thinking along the lines of "A fool and his money are soon parted." I like my adapted version more anywaysOriginally Posted by Vinci

Guess this wasn't a good deal made at the mistake of another and was planned?

FailureMidgard: Just saw your reply. Holy fuck are you ignorant.
I'm all for off topic posts and trolling, but this is pretty stupid. Can we get a mod in here to split this topic and entitle the new one "ITT: Bitches who dont know how to stop bitching"?
Aren't those sorta anti-business sayings?Originally Posted by Vinci
Those sound more like moral feel-good kind of quotes than an actual business strategy. However, it would be good to tell people that's how you think. It's good for business.

Here's an interesting thing we noticed this morning:
LS CFH+Wipe last night, they had it down to 50-60ish, it wasn't killed overnight, and when we pulled it it was at 67% hp already. It's possible JP tired it and wiped too during the night. It ran around a few zones before we pulled it as others were scaring it off.
4/4 cape, 3/4 dagger, 1/4 cloak so far.
Let's take the last one, for example. "A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business."Originally Posted by Vinci
Now, I can understand if that's meant to imply the importance of building a reputation and good customer relations. The more you establish yourself in the market, and the better the reputation and the more satisified customers (even if it cuts into your immediate profits), then the more money you'll be making in the long run.
However, it still comes back to the money. You're a good, respectable, reputable business that is known for making your customers happy... and you make more money because of it. Therefore, you could say that a business that makes nothing but money is a good business afterall, if you account for being reputable and making people happy as a means to the end of making more money. Which, honestly, is why businesses care about pleasing their customers and being reputable in the first place.
The same logic could be applied to all the quotes, and it basically comes down to having a good sense for long-term profit, rather than short term quick sales. You do what you must to make money, even if means being honest and pleasing your customers at your own expense in exchange for long term stability, dominance in the market, and a giant consumer base.
The misleading part of the quotes is that they create an image of honor versus the sleazy salesman who cheats or misleads his customers to make a quick buck. They imply the honorable method is better and you should care more about that than money. The reality is that, indeed, the honorable method is better because it makes more money... which could be summed up into "do whatever you can to make the most money in the long term" (which is not the sleazy disreputable method).
Interesting and maybe true in the real world of business. In FFXI, well... selling HNM drops is different. You are not selling to a general consumer that will come back to get the same goods again over a period of time. Ace's Helm... Algol.. they all want it once. All in the end... a business (in FFXI) that makes nothing but money is actually a great business!Originally Posted by Khamsin

Hahahah... playing the game poor is no way to play for me! If I did... you would put a screenshot of my gear in the WTF thread!
