Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

Well, just tried it, and Nuhn is soloable as rdm. Probably need W. Legs to do it though. Basically just bio and poison and run, took almost 3 hours, with very conservative nuking. If you pull it down a little bit and outside of the cave area, there's a nice little path you can kite it around that it has lots of trouble pathing through. It definitely doesn't have Regain, so I only have to deal with 10 or so TP moves, which were all either Gnash or Deathgnash. Successfully ran away from them all except for 1 Deathgnash, which, oddly hit me for only 354 damage...stoneskin wasn't even up.

There's a Jnun kind of close to the kite area but it won't aggro unless you have low HP. I aggroed it once after converting and not curing myself all the way, but I just kited it and Nuhn and it lost aggro. Here's a crapp picture in paint of the general kite path.

    http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m...z/Arrapago.jpg
The red dot is where you pop it. The bluish line is where you pull it too (you'll probably have to kill the 2 imps out there). The brown dot is the rock that you can circle around, and the red line is the path you should kite it in. (Sorry it's so small, but you should be able to see.) (Also there is a small tunnel with an iron gate that isn't shown on this map, that's why the path appears to go off.)

Anyway, only snapped 1 picture at the end of the drops, mostly because I solo on PS2 and sit my char somewhere on PC (to collect the drops).

    http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m98/Waefz/Nuhn.jpg

So yeah, took ridiculously long, but I got what I wanted so I'm happy, and maybe it can help someone else.

By the way, good gear is DEFINITELY not required for this (except maybe w. legs), because my solo char (Angelofchaos) is completely stripped, except for rare/ex gear.

I'm not sure if it's a slogan of Aperture or not, might just be some quote the person who made the background thought up.

Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

Thank you Waef. I'm going to try with this what I did with the Wivre.

My character doesn't have RDM, but my wife's does, so I use it for the killing. I bring mine on THF for TH4, so I figure I might as well use it. She doesn't have cuisses, but I have skadi boots, so what I do once I've found a loop is use up the Bind/Gravity resistences near the start, take a chunk of damage out of it, and then start spamming Collaborator every 1min on the RDM, letting the THF kite. Doing this, after a relatively short amount of time (usually 10-15 minutes into the fight) hate is completely plastered onto the THF. I continue to use the ability every minute, and simple stand at one part of the loop on the RDM, freenuking / reapplying DOTs as it passes, and resting when MP gets low, never pulling hate. It's very, very effective, and it made the Wivre take <20min once I figured this out around 65% HP left. Which is pretty good on RDM, considering DOTs and a start nuke pool took it down 35% in >40min.

Question, did you have to use Bind/Gravity at all, and did it resist either much?

Edit: Just killed Nuhn with a RDM70 and myself dual boxing RDM+THF.

Ridiculously easy, don't need movement+ at all. Deathgnash was a little annoying when I was trying to secure hate on the THF, lost it a few times. At 7% when it did it I stopped trying to get hate on the THF since it'd be dead soon.

Regarding my Bind/Gravity questions, Bind doesn't land very well at all. From my first to last binds (both of which resisted), I landed a total of 3, out of maybe 10-15 tries. What I found weird about this NM, and very different from any other zNM I've fought so far, is that Gravity did not build any resistence. At all. I gravitied it a total of maybe 25 times, several near the end of the fight, and not a single one resisted. If it DOES build resistence, it's very very slow. Each Gravity was for a sizable duration, not a single one wore quickly. It was very nice for after Deathgnash. I might add, though, that there is no real reason to use it if you're /NIN. If I kill this one again, I will probably go /SCH for the added DOT on Bio, increased skill for nukes, and just Gravity it each time I want to nuke.

The northern rock Waef pointed out that you "loop" around was nice. If you go to the other side of the rock and wait, then run when it starts getting close (curving from right to left around it, counter-clockwise), it'll go back around once it sees that the opening isn't as big as it wants. Of course, if it's right on your tail it'll go through the opening anyway. This can make for plenty of space to cast anything short, from Refresh down to Bio or Poison.

Very easy fight, anyway. Wind Grip, Light Grip, Oracle's Pigaches for the spoils, everything we wanted. :D

Just duoed Nuhn rdm/nin + blm/whm. He moves slowly. We kited it in the Emperor Apkallu area (F7), there is a lot of room there. He does build resistance to gravity both in duration and landing. Only happened near the end though. I suggest using gravity everytime the BLM can nuke, and empty his MPs. When MP is empty just zone hate.

At one point he spamed the move called Vile Belch : AoE silence, plague centered aorund him, no damage. Every time someone would get close to him he would use it. Maybe it's a kind of 2H. He used it like 20 times in a row then stopped after one shotting the BLM for 4K seismic tail.

Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

    New question, new post.

Do Vampyrs run fast? Aydeewa is full of potential kiting areas, although I've never really examined closely. I've only ever fought one Vampyr, the one in Assault FL Leujaoam (I think that was where it was), and it was kitable around the rocks and stuff. The DAT has 9 pets for Nosferatu, but no one seems to have mentioned them at all, so I'm wondering if they really exist?

Just took a look at the map and spawn points, and the place Thorny outlined for kiting the Chigoe NM is even closer for the Vampyr - if it's not too fast. Anyone know?

All Vampyrs do that afaik >_>

Well, Dracula does, I can't recall if Vampyr Jarl does. Jarl does the mob summoning though

    Jarl also has infernal servitude...

God, last time he did it, he blasted me with Doom and charmed me right afterward. Needless to say, the mages didn't even get a chance to hit me with cursna.

Well, not like it matters, the mages in my einherjar group has a habit of using erase to attempt to cure curse effect anyway, but that's another story altogether.

Anyway, is there any detailed strategy for armed gears? I'm thinking of taking him down sometime tonight, but from what I've read, it'd be a long ass fight with 1/4th~ damage nuke being the only thing that really damage him until his gear started dropping. Am I missing something or will it just be a long endurance fight like that?

Also, is he immune/build resistance to stun? I'm guessing the strategy would be to put him on enwater, enaero, or i guess whichever element that isn't light and dark and have the mages nuke him down, but how long would it take for them to get to a point where melee would have decent effect? Also do they have the same retarded resistance to ranged?

I'm thinking of taking 2 NIN/DRK or PLD/NIN tank, SCH, RDM, BRD, WHM tank party with 2-3 BLMs DD party, would we be able to kill it at any reasonable amount of time?

Armed gears the strategy is to nuke the element his enspell is weak to. Dispelling til he gets the right one is retarded and a fast way to kill the rdm also. The enspells sometimes dont even last long thus why its not great. His defence is crazy high period to nukes dmg ranged the works. It is pretty much endurance.

Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

Here's the strat we've been using for Armed Gears. First off ignore dispelling his en-spell to get a favorable one. It's a waste of time and makes the fight last longer. We usually go 2 pld tanks brd whm rdm in Tank PT. A few blms and 2 melee who can SC well.

When he has an en-spell active he's weaker to magic and more resistant to physical. So what we do here is try to get a SC + MB going. A good MB will do 6-700 damage. He will at any given time either A) Change his en-spell or B) Remove the En-spell and go to casting Black/White Magic. During the non en-spell mode he's very resistant to magic and is less resistant to physical. This is a good time to free WS him as they can do good damage.

After a certain point he seems to go into a no en-spell mode and starts taking full damage from everything. I say the fight takes 20-30 min if you're focused and not wasting time. After he isn't fully resistant anymore, you can freely nuke when he doesn't have an en-spell active. Usually we test when this is with a T1 or 2 nuke.

Aspir doesn't work btw. He'll absorb whatever element he is atm and has Mighty Strikes as a 2 hour. He gets very fast if no slow or elegy are on him but neither are difficult to stick. Make sure to dispel shell, protect, phalanx, stoneskin, and haste right away.

It's basically just paying attention to him and hitting him hard and fast at the right times. Melee burn isn't an option as his only TP moves are pretty heavy AoE. You can manaburn it down effectively though. Just make sure to pay attention to his weakness.

He's by far been the easiest T3 I've seen even if he takes a while to whittle down at the start.

Alright, thanks for the strat, we'll just try that tonight and hopefully get an aurum out of it.

Armored Gears is a joke to kite, it has horrible pathing around the pillars in the room. PLD/NIN, RDM, and a couple BLMs. Melee make it a worse fight imo as his AoEs rape face. Rail Cannon can pretty much wipe the mages out if used in bad spots. We just manaburn it down with 3 or more BLMs, it takes a bit to get it to 50% but once a gear falls off the thing drops fast. Like other people said, dont dispel the enspells, sometimes it takes awhile for him to use a new one and you get him stuck in RDM mode where he buffs up and Cures himself.

We just did 4 runs of Armed Gears, each taking no more than 25-30mins to kill. We basically had a pld straight tank it w/ 2 thfs beating on it and smns and blms doing the damage from outside. Rail Cannon is by far its worse move, but long as mages keep SS up, they wont face any lethal harm. Very easy fight if straight tanked, since you dont need to waste time kiting it. As for drops, even w/ TH4, still only managed one Aurum Sabatons and more or less repeats of the rest. Easy fight over all.

We did 3 Armed Gears last night and kited them all and took them down in about 15 minutes each. No Aurum.
