Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

It seems like since the patch, both people who have posted pics of tier4 loot pools have gotten the r/e trophy, maybe they ninja'd it to 100%? Obviously 2 screenshots isn't enough to infer anything like that conclusively, I guess we'll see.

Anyone else kill a tier4 since the last patch?

aw balls, well maybe they upped it a little bit, but I guess I just fell victim to the "HAY DID SE CHANGE RIDILL DROP RATES LOL" phenomenon. Oh well, still a good system even with the current rates.

The DAT has 9 pets for Nosferatu, but no one seems to have mentioned them at all, so I'm wondering if they really exist?

Just took a look at the map and spawn points, and the place Thorny outlined for kiting the Chigoe NM is even closer for the Vampyr - if it's not too fast. Anyone know?
From experience, it doesn't seem like they do. We tried our first Nosferatu with 9 people (including a few BLMs, which are more or less shit on him since he's kinda like ToAU HNMs since he's extremely resistant to nukes and completely resistant to stun), which was a little less than what we felt safe going with. Occasional deaths from Doom and all tanks being charmed at the same time followed by the triple Astral Flow TP move thing on mages lead to quite a few deaths, and we ended up saccing him to the zone while we recovered. The only thing between his spawn point and the zone is a pond with 3 aggro DC shrooms in it, and I trained both him and some shrooms using gaiters. I did have one problem though: he kept deaggroing very quickly near the beginning. Someone suggested maybe the pond/water was to blame, kinda like crawlers losing aggro over water because they track by scent or w/e. I guess a vampire tracking by scent sorta makes sense ?_?

For our 2nd fight (a few days later), we killed the shrooms first then a PLD with crimson pulled him to the zone immediately, and he was in fact lagging behind, especially since he stops to cast spells (one of which is Stun though, which could mess up your kiting).

He is also susceptible to Grav, no idea if he builds resist or if Bind works.

Why is everyone saying that? It's insanely time consuming. Right now it might not look too bad since tier1-3 drops are rather high (compared to sea torque) and some are decent and people are happy to get gears on the way to tier5, but in say 1 or 2 months, when everyone got their tier 1-3 drops (and mostly 4), you will get sick of having to take so many pics/farm so many seal to go 0/15 on the last tier4 seal you need for pandemonium.

But I guess its typical for SE to make their new event so time consuming, and in a year or two, they will up tier4 seal drop rate, and everyone will be all "omg SE is awesome they listen to their players!!!!" while they release their new super time consuming event with ridiculously rare drop.

Pandemonium better have really high drop rate..

it's honestly not that time consuming, but only as long as you have more than 1-2 people farming points and pop items. 6 people farming zeni can get enough for a tier4 in 1-2 days tops since the r/e trophies can be traded in by anyone regardless of whether or not it was their pop item to begin with. Sure, pandemonium pop drop rates aren't 100%, but to a certain extent the drop rate for tier5 reflects the relative ease of getting to tier4. Gear drop rates are high, and I definitely see what you're saying about people getting tired of farming once everyone gets what they want from t1-t3, but currently it's simply a system that's easier than sky/sea/whatever but takes a bit more time, but can be done at your own pace without worrying about competition. Perhaps I should have clarified what I meant by it being a 'good system' but yeah, imo it seems relatively well thought out.

I guess little to no competition is a trade off for more time consuming but I am mainly pissed about the seal beeing random drop, the item mob drop is already random enough, why must the items used to pop them be also? It's just dumb that some ls will go 3/3 and some 2/50, I would prefer if you needed 3 seal of each mob then a 33% drop rate (or w/e it is now), that way you feel like you are making progress each NM killed at least, and not get annoyed spending so much time to not get the seal you want tons of time.

Maybe they will end up being like the Sea virtue triggers in the future and be changed to 100% drop rate.

However if you're not happy with the tier 4 drop rate you can instead raise the gil for the Tier 5 item you want (which is almost the same as making progress) while letting people who want to deal with lottery drop rates do it their way.

This is the most casual large-scale HNM-esque event SE has put out ever. Literally you can log on whenever, take your photos whenever, get the pop item whenever, spawn said NM whenever and move up the tiers.... whenever.

Its not like tier 4 has shitty drops... fuck that. To the 'casual' player those drops are amazing and the hardcore endgamer can still get a few rewarding items out of the event as well.

One of the most balanced attempts at an endgame system by far.

To add, if you do it as a full linkshell and play off eachother rank wise its really not as much time to commit, whereas if you alone are trying to pop all 3 tier 4s, yea it takes a bit. I just fail to see a difference between this system and the other endgames in that respect.
    I'm all for it.

Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

Kind of a random question. NM prices can be driven up very rapidly on Odin and my route towards Armed Gears is currently obstructed by either an insanely expensive Marid or a very cheap but potentially deadly Poroggo or Marlboro.

The search function doesn't display much about either NM. I can pretty much guess how much of a pain in the ass the frog is. I'm guessing its like a hardcore version of any given Zhayolm Remnants NM. I'm just concerned that its Water Bomb or -ga spells will be crazy overpowered and floor us. So I'm not sure I want to drive my group into suffering through that.

And then the Marlboro apparently had AoE Extremely Bad Breath? That sounds pretty horrific too. Would I be better off just eating the 4k+ Zeni on the Marid and cut myself out of tier3 points for a day or two? Or is one of these two mobs weaker than they sound? Any detailed advice on either one would be awesome.

Re: New ToAU NMs (post findings here)

Quad-ed malboro today with SMN SMN BLM BLU/THF.

Funny story, the SMN who popped got tired of people refusing to want to attempt it because of "fuck EBB I want my buffer" so he popped it solo and started carby kiting around the tower. When I heard he was soloing I figured I'd help out and maybe get some fake dfeet too, and went out on SMN. By the time I got there he had soloed first form and second was at like 95%.We duoed with SMNs til my brother showed up to help on BLM/RDM which helped with gravity and random AMII -> zoning via tower. Second form and half of third went fairly quickly, and then another guy in LS showed up to help on BLU/THF.

We basically had the BLU get semi-secure hate with SA cannonballs, and then the SMNs could go to town with nether (with grav off) or pred (with grav on), taking care to be out of EBB range at all time. I think from the entire 4th form 2 EBBs hit avatars, and the rest had no valid targets. Between the only pet damage and the BLM zoning after big nukes, the BLU easily kept hate and ran circles easy (wlegs of course) until it died with relatively little effort. Full drops too.

Now that I think about it, this is like the 7th NM I can think of that has been made stupid easy by the "kite in circles around the towers" strat or the "keep BLMs at the zone and nuke" strat. I bet more will be figured out in a matter of days.
