We'll see. Hopefully ATI made a better difference between the xx50 and xx70 this time around. With the HD38 series, the xx50 and xx70 were basically the same card, especially once you found an HD3850 with 512MB of RAM.

The HD4870 will be the first card ever with GDDR5, which should be interesting.

I haven't run the benchmark with it yet.

Plus I'm not sure if my CPU can still do that overclock.

Oh I thought you were just stating what's in your tower... I couldn't care less about the benchmark. That thing is ancient anyways.

Well for the benchmark, it does 8k on High with the CPU at 3.0GHz.

Nehalem won't hit the consumer market until next year.

The first run is the server model, coming in a LGA1366 package with multiple sockets. Nehalem is really an answer to AMD's Opteron series, which has been destroying Intel in anything with four sockets in the last five years or so.

45nm quads have been out for a while now (unless you are looking for a specific chip).

    They are called Yorkfield.

So here are some devices he is going to purchase shortly.

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6811129021

    Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6814130318
    (2 of these, better suggestions?)

    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115043
(I told him, most programs wont use the quad core...but he wants a quad core.)

    Memory: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6820227267
(Wants x64 version of windows....so wants to order 2 of these for 8 GB of memory)

    Hard Drive 1(Primary): http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6822136012

    Hard Drive 2: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6822136151

    Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817182097

Anyone have any advice on a Mobo for this? Something that supports SLI, and supports 8 GB of ram would be nice.

Any other advice on different things to replace would also be very helpful.

    Thanks
since you're going SLI you'll need an nvidia chipset.

my recommendation would be to look into a different GPU setup (either a 9800 GX2 or crossfire) and go with an intel chipset, the latest rev of nvidia based north bridges kind of fall down.

I have a p5e3 premium for my QX9650 myself, but that's a ddr3 based board and on the upper end, probably wouldn't need something like that, but ASUS in general is pretty good for intel chipsets.
