Also, has any BLM out there managed to get their hands on the Alkalurops (HP -10, INT +10, MND +10, CHA +10, Magic Accuracy +20) and can get a good parse on this staff versus NQ/HQ elemental staves? I can see this maybe as an alternative to Kirin's Pole for elemental debuffs, and mabye Pluto's Staff for drain/aspir.

I got the Cobra Crakhows to replace my Rostrums (I hate Assault). Let's me use Sorc Ring w/ ~50 more HP.

What are people's thoughts on the Solitaire Cape? Worth it for people using Prism?

I wouldn't even swap a rainbow cape for it.

    Re: New BLM Equip

Drain/Aspir, no, since both get 10%/15% "damage" bonus from elemental staff, but it'd obviously be better than Kirin Pole for elemental debuffs. As for it vs. elemental staff for elemental debuffs, it would be obviously better if the 10 INT puts you over potency tier, and if it doesn't, then it would depend on people's findings on Macc. Either way though, it's probably not worth lotting just for elemental debuffs unless you got it already.

    Math:
Constants: mob INT 70, this is my own personal nuking & INT gear, Thunder IV, (x)1.84 MAB from gear + merits. No DWB.

    On Thunder IV:
Prism Cape on Thunder IV, standard MAB gear, HQ stave:
    [(101 - 70) x 2.0 + 541) x 1.84 x 1.15 = 1,275 (rounded down)

Rainbow Cape (NQ) on Thunder IV, standard MAB gear, HQ stave:
    [(100 - 70) x 2.0 + 541) x 1.84 x 1.15 = 1,271 (rounded down)

Solitaire Cape on Thunder IV, standard MAB gear otherwise, HQ stave:
    [(97 - 70) x 2.0 + 541) x 1.86 x 1.15 = 1,272 (rounded down)

Conclusion: Not worth it, even to replace a NQ Rainbow in terms of Damage. Possibly for a sleep macro for the spell interrupt reduction, but I wouldn't waste my time with it. Bonus: Its free if you're poor or don't really feel like investing in the best for BLM.

I don't have the inventory space to carry it around for this purpose BUT, isn't MAB factored more heavily for -ga III's? So while it's not worth it for T4 is it possibly for -ga III's. I know it'll be marginal at best if my memory serves me correctly here, but just curious.

    Re: New BLM Equip

related aside, and something I was going to test, but thought I'd just ask here since it came up.

Zidiane on KI said his damage w/ Solitaire's went up over a *gleeman's*.

Why does Solitaire cape, 2mab beat Gleemans cape +5 int. (Beats it by 3 dmg)

1356 Thunder IV Gleemans. (77+42 Int, +42 Mab)
1359 Thunder IV Solitaires. (77+37 Int, +44 Mab)
    Done on the same mob.

Does anyone have one to test to see if there's a hidden effect if you're soloing? He didn't post his gear, didn't qualify the mob and conditions or numbers of nukes, and said it in the context of challenging Rambus over something so there's a possibility he was pulling the numbers out of his ass to try and make his point.

Name would make sense w/ a potential hidden like that (and was suggested by Onorgul in that thread.)

If this is correct, I might retract my statement and it could be an ok cape if you solo a lot.

(wtf are you doing talking about capes anyway Ashke? Hats onry for you!)

Ya, this is obviously what I was thinking of:

    M = 1.0 for all I/II single-target nukes
M = 1.0 for all -ga spells up to Blizzaga II
    M = 1.5 for all III single-target nukes
M = 1.5 for all -ga spells Thundaga II and beyond
M = 2.0 for all IV and AM I/II spells

My LS will be doing ZMN runs this evening. If I get one of these, I'll post up some results after some testing.

Valkurm won't put out for my Petasos +1, so I was forced to worry about shoes and now capes. Q_Q

simple answer: he nuked a sufficiently low level mob that he changed the math. if you hit the DInt threshold where int becomes roughly half as effective, a solitare cape will invariably outparse the gleeman's with ease. if you repeated the test on a lvl 0 mob, the gleeman's cape would have no effect on your damage as you'd hit the DInt cap. without more data, this test is nearly completely useless.

    Re: New BLM Equip

yeah, a strong possibilility, and I definitely agree necessary data for a conclusion is strongly lacking - one of the first questions asked was what MOB (which hasn't been answered). Again, context of the scenario was argumentative, so I'm entirely willing to discard it as a contrived scenario, if not outright false.

It's something I'd test if I had one, so I just wanted to ask the community here since I was reminded of that post since the question came up here.

    Re: New BLM Equip

I thought I had this nailed down, but maybe not.

Quick tests before I go to bed:

    - Gearset (left to right, top to bottom): Aquilo's, Bugard+1, Phantom, AF+1, Black Silk, Novio, Moldy, Genie, Snow, Tamas, Prism/Solitaire's, Sorcerer's Belt, Mahatma slops, River gaiters.
    - all tests performed solo, on Wamoura Princes
    - I excluded my Ug. pendant and Sorc rings because I didn't want any variable MAB to come into play as I was nuking.
    - day was lightningday, changed to light during testing. Almost constant earth weather
    - no food was used
    - no debuffs on mob (burn, etc)
    - INT is 73+45 w/Prism on
    - Full Ice potency merits
    - target was Wamoura Princes, always in "coiled" form

    First test on Blizzard IV:
    Prism: 1216, 1207, 1207, 1216, 1216, 1216, 1216
    Soli: 1216, 1205, 602, 1216, 1216, 1216, 1216

During the 1207/602 period of 2 nukes, the weather stopped and it was clear. I dont know if this had any affect or of the mob just had a smidge more INT.

    For kicks, I tried Freeze2:
    Prism: 1602, 1602
    Soli: 1606, 1606

...nothing groundbreaking, but further testing is needed.

The INT on princes varies by 1-2 iirc. I'd try puddings in and out of a party together?
