    Software sound splitter?

I bought a surround sound system and I love it, I like to listen to music while I do other things and it works great, but I also have a USB headset for chatting online and things of that nature.

Now Vista has the ability to turn down specific applications, but what about changing what they send sound too?

Is there a way I can have programs run on my surround sound and some run in my headset?

The only way I have been able to do this is change the default sound options to my headset and then for example open firefox, then set it back and open Winamp etc, then it will split the sound up, but this appears to be the only way and is time consuming and really rather annoying because if a program crashes I have to do it all over again

    Thanks for your help.

I'd be interested in this too, I've been doing the same thing as you with setting it in control panel, opening and then switching back

Not if the program it uses DirectShow, which is basically everything.

However, with that said, ffdshow can do that, but you have to know what you're doing.

I found this for Winamp which does what I(we?) want for music, but thats of course the only thing it effects.

I do this a little differently than most since I use bluetooth audio for TeamSpeak/iTunes Music and my Sound Card handles speakers for FF (which is usually turned off/nonexistant) or internet video. I know my friend did something similar by putting 2 sound cards on his desktop but he had this huge tower and honestly idk how he did it. If you have a bluetooth card and a good pair of bluetooth stereo headphones you can do something similar with ease on vista. I'm at work but i can post better info when i get home later.
