imho this fighting bullshit is the lamest and most boring crap ever. Like, if they had swords and armor, maybe it would be entertaining. But they get so worn out and limp that it just bores the hell out of me. Kimbo just goes limp sometimes. Like how the fuck is that a maneuver?? "Let me just sit here for a second and think about how i'm gonna punch him next."

dear god in heaven don't use the kimbo fight as a measuring stick for all mma. watch some good fights before you pass such broad strokes. kimbo has zero cardio and that's why he gassed out like that, most fighters that won't happen too and there's always some action going on. i'm scared that a lot of people are going to use that show as a benchmark for all mma and that is the reason i have animosity towards elite for putting on that show. they have a great show tomorrow night on showtime...try watching that one, or check out faber vs. pulver or torres vs. maeda from the WEC show if you wanna see a great, fast-paced fight.

I still wish that torres-maeda fight didn't get stopped like that even though it was obvious it needed to be. i think i liked the way that match was going more than the pulver-faber fight tbh

If this is the only fight you've watched, then what Noblemountain said. If you've watched a few and this is still what you're seeing a lot of the time, I've got 3 words for you: try it yourself.

You don't have to do any full contact. Just set a timer for 5 minutes, and then shadow box without stopping the whole time. Every minute, drop to the floor and do 20 push-ups and 20 sit-ups. Then take a 30 second rest, and do it again. Repeat 3 times for a total of 15 minutes of shadow boxing w/push-ups & sit-ups. That's a small taste of what type of conditioning you need. When I say small taste, I mean it. The conditioning that good combat sports fighters put themselves through is brutal, and there's a reason for it. Full contact combat sports, especially MMA, is one of the most grueling physical activities on the face of the planet. You've got to keep your hands up all the time, while throwing punches with force behind them, blocking or dodging what your opponent throws at you, be ready for a take-down at any second, throw & block kicks, sprawl, then go into defensive or offensive mode while on the ground. Having someone 180 or more pounds on you trying to beat your face in or rip your limbs off will wear you out, and fast, if you're not in the most pristine of condition.

So yeah, even among the professionals it takes a lot of talent and effort to be able to go 3 or more rounds full-bore. There's trade-offs that need to be dealt with for most people. Do you want to have a huge gas tank, or do you want perfect technique, perhaps strength? There's only so many hours in a day, and the body needs rest, so you can't specialize in everything. Some people choose to go for more strength in the hopes of taking their opponent out early. Kimbo is an example of that kind of person. He's been working with a guy who has trained a lot of fighters, and was a fighter himself (Bas Rutten), so he'll improve. I'm sure Bas has him running drills now to increase his cardio.

Ok I'm just rambling now and turning this into a live journal. That's what I get for replying before I finish my coffee, brain not working good yet...

honestly, i wanted to see kimbo succeed in mma. this last fight really tested him, but i wont be paying for any ppv with kimbo as main card. i'm debating if I should even pay for the affliction card.

did anyone hear of the "Big announcement" from dana white? he said it was gonna blow everyone's mind away. apparently it's ufc action figures lol

    Re: Kimbo Slice and MMA

In a way I kind of feel bad for Kimbo. Seems like everyone that is into the sport can't wait to see him fail, its not really his fault that he's headlining and such, that's more of the promoters deal I would think. I mean I understand the fact that he hasn't "paid his dues" and really shouldn't be fighting these "main events" or what have you, but at the same time I think anyone given that opportunity would take it. People want to pull for the underdog, and he happens to be the perfect one, because of his internet videos making him infamous. So a big part of me wants to see him do well personally, I'm sure most others that aren't too familiar with the sport feel the same way.

With that said though, watching his old videos it's pretty obvious he wasnt fighting any real competition, hell that one fat kid was scared to death of him before they even started. It does look like the guys got some power/strength though, can't really deny that, I wouldn't want to take one of his punches, thats for sure.

kimbo slice is garbage I despise him and his "fans".

Dana's announcement I think may have had something to do with MMA sanctioning in New York but was postponed because it got voted down in the state senate. may be something else though.

As soon as he stops drawing new faces or the hype dies down, they'll throw him into a real fight and he's going to get a brutal reality check.

I have nothing against the guy, btw. He seems nice enough. It's just irrirating knowing there's hundreds upon hundreds of way more talented MMA fighters who were stepped over to get this guy into the ring.

The guy himself talks endlessly about how he has a lot to learn, and after his last fight talked about how he was lucky to win. I could understand the hate for him if he were some Mayweather-esque ego-fueled ass but he's just doing what he can and trying to learn along the way.

Tell you what, though...he's fucking creepy in the ring. Honestly- he's so calm. All these other guys jump around, get all hyped up. Slice just walks out there, and even when he's throwing punches he looks like he's doing paperwork at a 9-5er. It is unsettling how comfortable and at ease with violence this guy is. Consider that this guy is in his mid-30's and has very little MMA training. Imagine if he had 5 years, or 10 years of MMA background. He'd be a fucking monster.

As for the other guys he's stepping over- I think if I was another MMA fighter, I'd be happy for Slice. Think about what he does for the sport. There's plenty of room for the other fighters. Slice is one man, he's not taking away 30 jobs or anything. He brings a lot of notoriety and popularity to the sport, he's making everyone else's paychecks go up.

Said it before, I'll say it again. He's nothing more than Tank Abbott. Put him in there with anyone who is a halfway decent fighter with a good ground game and he's done.

he's Bob Sapp 2.0. if we were in japan, they'd have put him in the ring with a 155'er to get beat. they love the freakshows over there...especially the big black guys. they also know how to market them and choose their fights. remember when people thought sapp was a legit heavyweight contender? lol

still one of my favorite MMA moments is cro cop liver kicking him...and seeing bob "the beast" sapp crumple in the ring and cry. something about 300 lbs men crying after being hit with a kick to the tummy is amusing.

I'm pretty sure he broke his cheekbone which was why he hit the ground like that.

Bob Sapp did put on a pretty vicious beating on big nog, although its pretty normal for him to get beat up and then win. Roided Sapp can do ok vs submission guys without good takedowns because he can just overpower you until he gases, but against someone with some striking he just doesn't have the heart to take any hits and keep on fighting.

he did break his orbital bone, but after the fight all sapp could talk about was the liver kick. lol...after that fight sapp really went downhill. he realized he could get really hurt fighting, it just took his heart away.

    Re: Kimbo Slice and MMA

there's a thread on sherdog about most violent slams...being a former wrestler this is always fun for me.

two of them caught my eye--

    http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/v ... C41Pl0ye4F

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8tVTuNZ ... ndex3.html

i've seen the fulton slam before, but it's so freaking hilarious that it never gets old. i didn't wanna start a new topic for this, so i figured i'd add it on the most recent MMA thread.

Holy shit @ that second slam, poor little dude... what are the rules on weight classes there? That guy looked like he had at least 50 pounds on him.

they were announced as part of a "middleweight" tourny...but they said the skinny TKD guy was 170 and i'm not buying it. he looked a lot lighter than that.

edit: they put TKD man at 170 and the wrestler as 200...dunno what kind of middleweight tourny that is...but yeah. lol
