so instead of making a list you should tell me which of those games I should get.

I'm kinda leaning towards Shiren. 3D Dot Heroes seems like it will be easy to find for a while and probably get cheaper before long. plus it seems fun, but simplistic. I'm not really a big FPS guy so I'm not sure how much I'd like Orange Box outside of Portal. and Eternal Sonata is a bit expensive for a second-tier generic JRPG, I wouldn't pay more than $30 for it from what I've heard. Shiren for Wii sounds amazing. but nobody I know has played it.

hey, you play 3rd party Wii games... go play Shiren and report back please.

I've been trying to finish this game up, and my only real problem with it is the story and dialog. They aren't awful, but the story isn't really anything amazing and the dialog makes the characters sound somewhat retarded at times. The battle system, however, is fantastic. Easily one of my favorites in a jRPG.

Been playing King's Bounty which is similar to Heroes of Might and Magic but need a new one to go too. Are there any games like Heroes of Might and Magic that are recommended? I love the battle system of the games, but I didn't like how certain units had limited numbers to buy.
I tried Disciples 2 and couldn't get into it much, but then again, didn't give it that much of a shot.

Other games I am thinking of going to is Total War series as Steam has sale going on today for em, so trying a demo. Anyone specific one the best or all pretty good/bad in your options?

    Thanks in advance!

FUCK YEA king's bounty was the shit, used to rock that shit all the time for genesis. They remade the game on PS2 under the name Heroes of Might & Magic: Quest for the Dragonbone Staff which was pretty good, although a little laggy. The music on the genesis version is really what made the game and without that the updated graphics lose their charm to an extent.

How is the new PC version? (or is there more than 1?) How do they compare to the original?

Eternal Sonata was pretty good, if you can get it for cheap I'd pick it up and play it. It's probably good for 2 playthroughs, but 1 is a little on the short side and somewhat linear. Still, good story and great music, and nice graphics... but you're probably right on it being worth about 30.

I still haven't played Shiren (I think I have it on my HDD though) but I have played Baroque (for PS2), which was my first Roguelike ever. It's kinda bizarre but strangely addictive, to be honest I think the dungeon crawling is better in some other games but that's just me. I've been obsessed with Rune Factory Frontier lately, which has dungeon crawling AND farming, it's my first harvest moon game that I've gotten more than an hour into and I can't put the shit down, almost 110 hours now and still going.

Towowo has been talking up FF Fables: Chocobos Dungeon which I think I might try out next, I think it might be roguelike-ish but I'm not sure. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of the genre but I hear Izuna 2 for DS is pretty great. Actually come to think of it, I know the DS version of Shiren is supposed to be great (and difficult), but I haven't heard anything about the Wii one...

Just completed Trauma Team. Pretty fun although there isn't much worthwhile after you beat the game.

I neeeeeed silver any easy forging recipes that I can spam for skill up?

Only got my axe to level 3 (not item level but like, 3rd tier) since it only cost 1 silver and that was all that I had <.<

And uh, I think I need new armor or something? Mobs in the Lava place rape me :/

There are 2 of them, King's Bounty: The Legend and King's Bounty: Armored Princess. I actually played the 2nd one, guess I should try the 1st as I hear it is 95% the same. As comparing them to the older versions, I never played them except for PC so no help on that end :D I just wish the way units were obtained was slightly different.

cool, I might wait until Eternal Sonata goes down a bit in price and pick it up then. it sounds like a fantastic bargain bin purchase, but EB is charging nearly $40 for the PS3 version and that's a bit much.

I ended up going with 3D Dot Game Heroes, and will probably pick up Shiren too at some point. I did look at Baroque, I might get that eventually, it looked really fucking hard but awesome on the same token.

and I really need to replace my DS/cyclo so I can play DS Shiren, not to mention about twenty other games I'd like to try.

you can get silver relatively easily in that spot I mentioned in Green Ruins B1F, but you need the Silver Hammer to break the boulder in the way. It's just to the west of the room with 2 ants with 6 3x3 farm plots, right by the entrance.

You can also get it relatively easily in Lava Ruins B2F, in the northeast part of the zone there are 3 rocks that are protected by a fire floaty guy and a disco chicken (idk their names lol), or the first set of 3 boulders on B3F by the 2 scorpions in the NE part of the floor.

Have you been saving Scrap Iron? I save every piece of Scrap Iron level 3 and up, and use it to upgrade all my farming tools to make them use less RP. Hitting the green zone during the synth (as long as you're using scrap iron that's equal or greater level of the tool) will always result in the tool gaining a level. You'll gain a fair amount of forging skillups this way too.

Other than that you can just save all your crap regular iron and knife pieces and copper, and just make broadswords -> upgrade them into scimitars, and then sell those. You can also do 2x iron ore to make a war hammer (and upgrade it with copper for another synth), or 1 crystal + 1 iron ore to make the various staves. I saved all my gemstones early too, so I've been making those brooches and selling them and my crafting is like lvl 95 now lol. You can also capture a sheep thing in Green Ruins and get wool every 4 days, if you buy the yarn maker from Lute you can synth Wool + Yarn Ball to level crafting as well.

And if you're really having problems with Lava Ruins you should try upgrading your accessories. Fire resistance/element defense gear is helpful too, if you can make any.

edit: to skill Lab, you can capture a Chitter (the squirrels in Green Ruins) to collect colored grasses for you and craft antidote herbs and para-gones, but you'll probably eventually skill it on your own making Energy Drink S's eventually (unless you start duping them, which I did because I was going through so many). You can also spam strawberries to Lara to get her FP up and she starts selling more stuff, eventually she sells all the colored grasses besides black/white for like 20g each.

Are you using 1h Swords? I didn't have many problems with enemies if I used them, and the 2 last ones (Smash Blade and Rune Blade) are fucking sick. Smash Blade has poison/seal immunity on it, and crits like every 3 hits... and Rune Blade randomly makes enemies drop RP restoral orbs, like you get from crops in dungeons.

Still Gotta finish heavy rain, but I'm playing it with my wife to try to get her into video games and its going to slow I'm thinkin about just continuing without her.

I'm still unsure of roguelike as a genre, just started playing Izuna 2 last night after filling up my flashcart with some of /v/'s recommendations.

I'd freaking love to find more games like Might & Magic, I'm about 30 hours in and on the last leg of game and still loving it. A few different accessories have spoiled me, though, I zoomed right through Fiona's fights because of the spider thing. God I miss that thing lol.

I have a Chitter, but, the grass he collects, I thought he automatically shipped it? >.>

I have a ton of grass though, skilling up lab hasn't been a problem.

Cooking hasn't been a problem either (obviously lol) it's like level 45 now.

Guess I'll ninja around in the lava ruins a few more times to try and get some more silver until I can upgrade my hammer.

Also uh, the separate facility storages, I kind of recall Lute saying that you can access stuff stored in there directly while synthing, or at least I got that impression, but it doesn't seem to work that way

nah you can't but they're pretty close to their respective synthing areas.

Chitter should collect your grass at 7AM and put it in the box, it should be there as long as you collect it before Rosetta comes to pick it up at 5pm

I actually just stopped picking it up eventually after I stockpiled around 20 or 30 of each, since Energy Drink S's capped me pretty easily, and I got Lara's FP to level 10 pretty early from all the strawberries I had left over from leveling them up to Lvl 10. Just finished leveling Yams now too, so all I really have left in the game is those stupid fucking long-grow flowers to get to level 10 (by spamming Formula C on them)... and I'll probably level the other renewable crops (everything except pineapple probably, so Corn/Tomatos/Eggplant/Peppers/Cucumbers) to 10 since you generate money like crazy with those on your farm.

If you have a PSP definitely get Disgaea 2 Dark Hero Days, it's alot better than the PS2 version, but has same story.

Might wanna consider the Chocobo Dungeon game for Wii Yuri-G. I haven't played the Wii version of Shiren but the DS one can be stupid unforgiving. Chocobo Dungeon might serve as a better introduction to the genre.

Started Alan Wake, played for about an hour or so. I didn't watch any videos of it or anything, just sort of blindly pre-ordered it with the hope that it'd end up similar in feel to Heavy Rain, Indigo Prophecy/Farenheit, etc.. There's a ton of screen tearing, kind of a let down, but otherwise the environments look gorgeous, and the character models not so much. Not far enough to judge anything else, but I'm anxious for the ride.

thanks, I'll check it out. less than $20 used, sounds surprisingly brutal for such a cute game, and has all the FF trappings... can't be too bad.

ended up picking up 3D Dot Game Heroes. it's fun. nothing amazing, but I can see it slowly growing on me. from what I've heard the game has a lot more depth than it seems at first, hopefully that holds true.

playing Portal Flash online right now, on the stage with five gates you need to open in sequence in order to get the energy ball into the receptacle. yeah, I remember this level from the last time I played >_> fucking hell. fun though.

Dont do it man. If you arent all that far in heavy rain, she's going to want to see the 2nd half of it. You can of course go back in chapters but it kinda sucks when you do stuff and already know what will happen xD. If you had to go back and play you'd probably end up changing a lot of your scenarios and it wont be quite as fun for her i think.
