I wouldn't go that far, pretty decent amount of them. Most seem to be spread across DS, PSP and 360, but there's still bits and pieces available on PS3 and Wii too. I doubt we'll ever see anything like the PS2 era again though, but at least this gen people are at least trying new stuff in terms of RPGs.
yeah, I think a lot of the traditional stuff is going to be mostly relegated to handhelds and DLC in the future, seems like people kinda lack the patience for traditional turn-based stuff as a disc-based console game. Not that it's a bad thing, just weird to see how things evolve I guess.
... and I have high hopes for a few of the up and coming games for the Wii. Granted, not even sure how many of them make it across to NA/EU but I really hope they do.
Earth Seeker
Spoiler: show
The Last Story, Xenoblades. All three of those have me pretty hopeful. Had you asked if that kind of RPG hope was possible for the Wii a year ago, I might have laughed in your face.
Oh wow, that's the first I've seen of that, looks pretty awesome.
I know I sound like a broken record but I really expected to be let down by Arc Rise Fantasia (mostly because of the voice acting) but I really can't stop playing it. It's not hard to be the best RPG on the Wii but this game is actually good. You should definitely check it out.
I *may* even like it more than Rune Factory Frontier, and that's saying something lol
To add to this, the development cycle and money it takes to make a next gen polished RPG is quite alot, def have to agree we'll never see what we saw on the PS2 as far as RPG's go, also, personally I hate playing turn based RPG's anymore. Much prefer action RPG's.
But this generation does have some good ones.
I'm on the last puzzle for level 10 hard in Picross 3D. You'd think 50 min. is enough to solve a puzzle, but guess again. That thing is pretty brutal.
i FINALLY got my plat for BFBC2 (demolition kills can kiss my ass!) i found dead space for 12 dollars so im gonna go grab that and play that. also working on RDR online trophies but those are gonna take a little longer since i need to grind to 50 on LAN
Dead Space is a pretty easy platinum, and it's a pretty fun one.
I still need to finish all the RDR multiplayer achievements, at some point...
Only thing I disliked about Picross 3D is that a lot of the later puzzles involve guess-work, with no logical means of getting the answer without some probabilities being involved.
I remember saying 'fuck it' to a lot of the 10x10x1 style levels and just brute-forced it by memorizing the block locations.
Regarding RDR, I still need to do the trophies for that. Anyone know the fastest XP means with the current patch? I know they nerfed that one spot that you could do easily solo.
As for me gaming-wise, been bouncing between the two Mega Man's and Castlevania X on my PSP. Castlevania X is kicking my ass, but in a good way. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X feels like they beefed the difficulty up as there are a shitload more traps than I ever recalled on the old SNES copy, unless they actually nerfed the difficulty on the SNES original when they localized it for America.
Seriously considering going down and buying Arc Rise before I head home today...
Atredies has been raving about it all week, but then he likes anything the wii craps out.
Yeah I just really don't know if it will end up on my "Pile 'o Half Finished Games" or not. Secondly, I don't know if i have what it takes to get past that VA. I should just exercise some patience and get it from Gamefly first, but patience sucks.
Kaisha you can delete the patch by going to game utilities (not saves) and delete the only RDR file on there. it will have to reinstall part of the game again but it wont delete your save (i did it cause i didnt know about it till after) its so slow but getting 1500xp+ per hideout is way better then anything else for sure.
the game was released at a $40 price point, which is a pretty good deal. If you can get past the VA you won't be disappointed, although if it's starting at 40 whenever it goes on sale it'll be 35-30...
Oh hell they patched hideout xp in RDR?
Just finished RDR, which I was kinda disappointed with. No depth to the main character, and his story didn't really progress the whole time. It felt hollow or something because you just have short 6-7 mission relationships with characters you work for/with until you stop seeing them any more. The last 2-3 hours, though, the story developed and the ending was good. And it was fun.
Also, just wrapped up Saints Row 2 which apart from your posse members being depressingly stupid (they get stuck on EVERYTHING) and the fact that you drive with A, shoot with RT, and then have to try and use both sticks while in the car to steer and aim, was really fun. If you compare it to GTA4, GTA obviously wins, but Saints Row has its own character and is good for its own reasons.
