Is the game like DMC where upgrades/items obtained carry on from difficulty to difficulty?
Is the game like DMC where upgrades/items obtained carry on from difficulty to difficulty?
Yeah. Weapons, Accessories, Halos, Items, Health, Magic Gauge, all go over to higher difficulties.
good to know, seems like this game will take a while to finish but if i spread my play time hopefully i wont get bored with it, theres a lot of games that i want to play because of sequels that are coming out, like SW: Force Unleashed, its like 15 bucks now so im gonna grab that this week
If going for Platinum and plan to do Lost Chapter, it should last you around 40-60 hours. i got 1000/1000 around 47 hour mark, but my total playtime is a little over 70 hours doing a couple of other things. There's also the Secret Boss that can be pretty tough. But there's a lot of ways now to easily defeat him, so it's a joke.
Lost Chapter is a lot of fun and tough at the same time. The lost chapter is around 2-3~ hours by itself.
Sounds like something I should give a try when I find it for cheap for my PS3. Not sure if I could be bothered to platinum it since the game looks to wreck havoc on the controller if you want to maximize damage.
you can find it for $20 at most retailers if you hunt around, and it'll probably go down to $15 used by the end of the holidays (I think it might already be that cheap at blockbuster actually). I used the codes to get everything and then worked on unlocking as much as I had the patience for and it still took me 40 hours btw, there's a ton of replay value. If you play it as one of the additional characters you have to unlock everything again for them, so figure twice that to do everything.
Just got home with Move and played the hell out of some Sports Champs. Then we played RE5 Gold with it. I sucked hard when i first tried it on the 360 but playing it with the move is a lot better to me. Girlfriend actually switched BACK to the controller because she says she's more comfortable with that.
What sucks though is apparantly you can't load a 2nd profile during offline co-op on RE5 on the PS3, but you can on the 360.
Was one of my pet peeves with the game. Sony needs to enforce multiple-profile support on co-op games.
I felt the same way about RE4:Wii version, was a lot more enjoyable when you were able to aim with ease without playing the 'is the laser pointer lined up?' game using the analog. I just wish Capcom didn't jew the RE5-Vanilla owners by making the Move patch Gold Edition only. ;/
I live in lolCanada, where games take a long ass time to hit the $19 point. Hell, Valkyria Chronicles is still $45 used in my area, where-as GameStop in the States has had it for $19 new for a year now. Bayonetta is $39 new currently in my area.
I don't recall many items really being useful, but I think there was a auto revive item, not sure. I didn't find DMD mode to be super hard, though, and not like you can use items anyway if planning to get S for every chapter. I just couldn't remember if the penalty was as bad as Bayonetta. Good thing with Bayonetta is you can spam the fuck out of items and still get 1000/1000/Plat, but on DMC4 you can't. I guess that's good for people who have hard time going through Hard and NSIC. Can pretty much just spam Mega Yellow Lollipops till you run out and restock at the Gates of Hell. Damn I miss Bloody Palace.
on a Tales kick right now. playing Tales of Innocence, Tales of Phantasia PSX, Tales of the Abyss, and toying with the notion of trying to get through Tales of Hearts. never played a game that's entirely in moonspeak before but there's a good script out there and with walkthroughs and FAQs, I think I can do it.
I played Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 entirely in moonspeak but it has a more 'mission based' nature so it was quite easy to make it through. Tales of Destiny 2 was the closest of the main games I went though mostly in moonspeak but there was a partial menu translation patch used.
Worked fairly well and if you're going to play through a moonspeak game you might as well play through that one since it's certainly a better game than Tales of Hearts!
Also, if you like ultra-broken spamshit games (like what you'd get with Hearts) then you should also try the PS2 remake of Tales of Destiny, also 100% in moonspeak
did you do those on an emulator? or burn to disc and play on your PS2?
I've been interested in trying both of those for a long time but have never put much effort into figuring out how to play them, legally or otherwise.
and what are the battles in Radiant Mythology like? I might give that a whirl if you'd recommend it. I trust you on all things Tales lol
I burned ToD2 to a disc and played... ToD remake I played on an emulator.
And as far as Radiant Mythology 2 is concerned, I'll tell you like I tell everyone else. If you see "Tales of the World" at the start of it, know before going into it that it is a fanservice game first and foremost. Do not expect it to have the polish of the main games, it won't have it.
That aside, RM2 was kinda neat because you make your own character and you can swap classes around like FFXI and you can make parties including characters from various 'Tales of' games. It's got some neat aspects to it and even a light crafting system and stuff. It is essentially a single player Tales of MMO-wannabe. It's fun for what it is but it's not an excellent game by any standards. I wouldn't recommend playing it unless you're already a huge fan of the series and are willing to look past things that you may expect from MMOs like repetitive missions and revisiting the same areas and fighting tons of reskinned mobs (more than you typically experience in a single player game).
Actually, I think RM2 would probably be pretty fun to most people if they already know to expect these things and know they can handle that but... going in expecting something different you are sure to be disappointed.
Radiant Mythology 1 is in full English but overall not as good of a game but all of what I just said above about 2 applies to 1 as well, but there's a few more things that kinda make 1 less enjoyable. Less customization options, the crafting system is slightly worse (though essentially the same). Less characters... and then the kicker, the characters can refuse to join your party. (and this WILL randomly happen for seemingly no reason)
I, once, had all the Priests deny my party invitations leaving me without a good healer for a boss fight. Not fun.
I use whatever I can on a first run, because when you don't know enemy attacks/patterns you're bound to get hit. Feels more survival like as well, but I picked up that mindset from DMC1 and my desperation DMD mode run.
Anyway, if you need to spam yellow pops to get anywhere, I wouldn't recommend a hard or NSIC mode run.
speaking of which, you can only buy up to 3 regular and 1 mega yellow pop at the gates of hell, but if you gather materials (or play angel attack) you can exceed this number. Right now I have about 20-30 of everything from running through the game a bunch of times lol
Yeah, it's like that for a lot of action games. I remember going through normal mode in DMC1 like 10 times to get all the holy waters and vital stars lol.
If you're able to play it, Tales of Graces is really easy to go through without understanding Japanese. It pretty much tells you where to go next on the "world map" by making the location shine/blink.
Or, if it's still too hard, you can use these google translated wiki sites:

http://www36.atwiki.jp/to_graces/ (This one is a little better, in my opinion.)
thanks for the info domon. I think I'll pass for now... didn't realize it was a PSP game and it sounds fun but nothing worth getting one for. I have enough on my plate right now anyway. liking Tales of Hearts so far, the battle system is pretty button-mashy but enjoyable. my work computer can't read japanese so I'll have to wait until I get home to dive a bit into soma upgrading but it seems pretty deep.
maybe if I ever hack my Wii... I don't understand region locking at all, seems like it would just keep publishers from making even bigger profits
