I never did finish FFT... I think I got stuck and Wiegraph fight, and I had no problem with the game till then, I don't know if I was underlevel, didn't have useful abilities equipped, sucky party members, or if I was just doing something wrong, I think all of the above, though. First part easy, just that 2nd part... I got close one time, but still ended up dying. I kinda don't wanna play it anymore, first time I ever failed so hard at a game so bad, well in the past 10 years. I should go back and see exactly what it was I was doing wrong that kept me from winning that fight.

Lots of people struggle with that fight (if you're not ready for it the Wiegraf duel and the fight immediately after are probably two of the hardest fights in the game), but it's so easy to break that game in half in so many ways if you know how.

I gotta say my first playthrough is probably some of my fondest gaming memories though. I struggled with quite a few of the fights back then but it was so satisfying to beat that game. Now I end up trying to play Hacktics and get fucking slaughtered in every mission, GO FIGURE.

The solo part I got done without much trouble, but that 2nd part destroyed me no matter what. I think I'll have to restart and plan ahead for that fight next time so it's not insanely hard. I enjoyed FFT so much up to the point where it was clear I unable to finish that fight no matter what, and I didn't want to start all over again, since I don't think I kept a spare save file before that fight... normally I do, but since I wasn't having many problems with the game I figured I'd be ok. I think I remember someone telling me that using Fist Ninjas for that fight makes it a joke, I still have no clue what first ninja is since I haven't touched the game in a long time.

All it is is not equipping any weapons on your Ninja and giving them Martial Arts support skill from Monk, to increase fist damage. They punch twice like in that video for insane damage each time. Even without Martial Arts you can get some insane damage from fists too iirc, ninja blades are pretty worthless comparatively if you just gear your Ninja for straight up physical damage. But to do so you're pretty much sacrificing anything else that character can do, Ninjas still have good movement and amazing speed though, so it's worth it a lot of the time.

I think I'ma go replay this over the weekend. I'll make sure to get some first ninjas just to make this fight doable. I feel like replaying FFTA as well. I never did finish that either, ended up at 299 quests completed, and if iirc, there's 300 total quests, shit sucked so bad. '

Quick question since I don't remember, but how far in is Wiegraph battle? I always wondered if I'd be close to the end after finishing the fight, or is there much more after that?

There's four chapters in the game. Velius is right at the end of chapter 3 (only one mission afterwards iirc). Chapter 4 is the longest in the game though, so probably a little bit under 3/4 of the way through.

I'm pretty certain you could have beat Velius by abusing one of many broken combos though. If you give Ramza a Chameleon Robe Wiegraf won't use his Holy Sword skills on you, making him rather easy since his other skills are weak. Make Ramza a Squire and spam Yell/Accumulate, eventually you'll have high enough speed to get a fuckton of turns in a row to each of the enemies. As soon as the Velius fight starts you can just run in and kill him without him being able to move. Ramza is the most broken fucker in the world if you give him some prep time.

Edit: Horrible sound quality, but whatever:

Wow, that totally makes the fight a complete joke. And if I'm that close far in, then I'll continue trying to fight him and see if I have any of the needed things to pretty much solo it, pretty sure I do, I probably just didn't know about it.

I won this with a bit of trial and error with Ramza as a Monk with Squire abilities. The trick is to use Yell when you're not in danger to boost your speed and if Wiegraf gets close move away and heal with Chakra if needed, just rinse and repeat for awhile and your speed should be enough to beat the crap out of Wiegraf without him having a chance to react. And if your speed is still high, you'll still have a few turns to deal a great deal of damage in his Zodiac form.

I saw a vid just like that on the one Kiarax just posted. Although, this guy had some kind of auto-regen whenever he moved.

Monks have a passive trait called Move-Hp or something where they gain HP if they move. I didn't have it, but Chakra was a decent HP boost.

That clears that up. I just hope I still have something worthwhile to make the fight easier, since I can't go back and level or anything unless I start over. I do remember having my Ramza as Samurai, that's about it. Also, another question, what was the differences between PSP and PS version?

Complete new translation, including giving half the cast dumber names. 2 new jobs, some new quests, multiplayer and CG cutscenes throughout the game. Also had some new cameo characters, Balthier and Luso from FFXII/FFTA:2. I think they added some new scenes with the story characters that join you too to try and flesh them out a bit more, since most of them get completely neglected the second they join you. The biggest change, though, is making every single skill in the game have 50% slowdown for no reason, making the game annoying as fuck if you ever played the PS version.

Not sure on everything, but here's a list of what I know that's in the game.

New classes (Dark Knight and Onion Knight)
New secret characters (Balthier from FF12 and Luso from FFTA 2)
New Multiplayer mode that uses Ad0Hoc
    New cutscenes
    Better script

While the game is impressive it does suffer a lot of slowdowns during animations from what I heard. I never tried it but a lot of people confirmed it.

Here's the Baltheir cutscene if you want to see what they're like:

And I guess that explains why the animations were so slow. And after watching that, Ramza hair sorta reminds me of Marche.

It's not particularly bad when you compare normal stuff like level 1 magic. But by the time you get long animations like summons and Holy you are looking at a ridiculously longer animation. The worst part is the sound goes out of sync with it, so it's even more awkward. SE were retarded for letting that go out the door as it was, it's not even a PSP hardware limitation it's just someone majorly fucking up in the game itself.

That's the main reason I'll stick with the PS1 version.

BTW speaking of FFT, can anyone tell me why Calculator was a crap class, but it's skills were great for Black Wizards?

If I do end up having to start over, would it just be best to replay the PS version instead? Or is the extra stuff really worth playing the PSP version?

Your call. The PS1 game is fine as it is IMO, and you don't have the slowdown bullcrap.

Calculator's skills just let you basically target whatever the hell you want once you learn all of it's skills and how to use them. Pair it up with high level Black Magic and you can hit anyone on the map from anywhere. Lots of the time even being able to hit the entire enemy team in one go. You can even break it further by doing stuff like equipping Fire-Absorb items on your team, then blasting everything with Fire spells with no regard for your own team. Anything that does happen to hit your side will just heal it anyway.

And if you're used to the PSP version Tobi there's not a whole lot of reason to switch. The slowdown will likely annoy anyone who played the PS1 version, but if you didn't it probably doesn't bother you so much. Although laughing at some of the original translation will probably make the replay a little more interesting.
