I got a question for that since I'm still early in on that (probably will give up and just wait for the PSP release of FF4 Complete): Do they make you grind at the start of every chapter or something? Always feels like they keep you underleveled just to pad the game's length by forcing you to grind for an hour to not get your ass whooped at the start of the first dungeon.
Hoping with the PSP release they rebalance some of the content and keep it just a single story without breaking it up into selectable chapters.
Ugh, I think I'll just wait it out for the PSP release then. Thanks.
On another subject, picked up Star Ocean TLH International for $10. Anything I should know about it other than swapping over to the JP language track asap, and forgetting about ever being able to platinum the game?
You'll want to punch yourself because of the story.
Are the RPG mechanics good at least? Story I can probably deal with given what I paid for it. Was hoping for something akin to SO3's system.
Yeah it's basically the same thing as the previous entries. I don't remember the name but there is a new dodge mechanic in it that will let you get sneak attacks. If you time it perfectly you can get free hits etc.
You learn it during the first boss.
I never beat the game on the 360 and have thought about buying it on PS3 again. I was tempted to buy it last week but I talked myself out of it.
You wouldn't have to deal with any disc swapping at least if you did.
Going to spend some time with this, then back to working on my chronological Jedi Knight series run.
[EDIT] Eww, compressed FMVs. Pretty damn sure BluRay has enough space for them to up the quality on these. ;/
Also, plot related question...
Spoiler: show
[EDIT2] *punches self in the face*
I want to shoot whoever made the decision to have these character models act like they're in a fucking cartoon.....
[EDIT] Awesome, game broke itself. Cutscene displaying with zero visuals, and subtitles keep overlapping one another without clearing.
I have to say that I preferred the weak/strong attack system vs. blindsiding ftw.
I was actually gonna try to 1000/1000 SO4, but disc swapping is gay. Would've been nice if I could revisit all other areas on Disc 3 instead of swapping between the 3 repeatedly. I'll eventually replay it, but for the PS3 and do couple of extra stuff I didn't do in 360 version, but not spending 200-300 hours to Plat it though.
If it was 75%'ing stuff, sure, but demanding 100% completion is way too fucking much in an RPG with lots of missables. I enjoy my platinums as much as the next guy, but not if it keeps me glued to a 100% walkthrough to ensure I don't miss a single thing.
I will say though, game is starting to shape up a little better after the horrible first impression, although I can't get over how unresponsive movement controls are when running on the field.
The Plat isn't really that hard, just very time consuming. The Battle Trophies take a very long time to get. Getting the missables aren't bad compared to getting all Battle Trophies for everyone
999 for the DS is pretty cool. Enjoying it a lot. The puzzles are pretty good so far. The story seems to be really detailed and it is one of those games which you need to replay and get multiple endings to understand it. Though it moves quicker each time, it is already getting repetitive for me. Story is pretty cool though, so I'll probably put in a few more hours to get all the endings. Also M-rated story for a good reason.
EDIT: Great music too. Sets the atmosphere over the top.
This got me thinking about gaming critics obsession with Heavy Rain. Games like this, ranging from classics to trashy h-games(or classic h-games heh heh heh), have existed for a long time. Would Heavy Rain be proclaimed as "powerful" if they didn't starve themselves on adventure games(mainly the RPGish Visual Novels from Japan) and if a collective opinion hadn't already been formed pre-release via advertisements? Probably not. Or maybe it was the QTEs.
Found my old Diablo 2 discs, so I've been messing around with that lately.
Finished Force Unleashed 2, took my a staggering 5 hours. I'm now about 4-5 hours into Nier, despite all the bad reviews I actually really like it. The quests are very MMOish, and SE even brought me back to FFXI by using the exact same fishing system in Nier.
Kind of shocked at the reception Nier seems to be consistently getting despite the reviews. I think I'll throw my Kmart voucher at it.
Didn't know Nier was so fucking cheap now... tempted to pick that up instead
