So, El Shaddai is not a very good game at all.
The combat is all pretty terrible and the story makes no sense. The levels are really repetitive and the design is all over the place. Each level is designed extremely different, but each level gets boring to look at very fast because it's all the same within the level.

There are only 3 buttons in the game. Attack, block and jump.

With attack, the animation has to finish completely before you can even think about starting your next action, which is terrible considering how long it takes to finish the last swing of a combo, and especially when there are more than 1 enemy, which is all the time. So you'll be fighting one guy and you will without a doubt see the 2nd guy coming, but you will be unable to do anything and just have to get hit while you watch your guy swing his big stupid bow thing.

I haven't found a single use for blocking yet. Since all animations have to finish before you can start another, it's better to just attack attack attack so your opponents don't get a chance to attack. Your best bet is to get both your enemies in the same combo, as enemies come in pairs of 2 most of the time.

Depth perception is incredibly off. I've had to jump around and swing at objects several times just to get lucky and hit it because I can't tell exactly where it is. And for the platforming sections, the only way you can tell where you will land, is by watching where your tiny circular shadow is.

They added 1 extra thing to combat as well that is completely pointless. After you kill a certain amount of enemies, your weapon becomes tainted and you have to "purify" it. However to purify it, all you have to do is press L1, and as far as I can tell, there is no limit to how much you purify things. It doesn't consume anything. It's just there to give you an extra button to press to try and pretend it's more of just a "smash a single button" game.

Nothing will ever fix the RT, though.

I was undecided on El Shaddai, but that made my decision a lot easier. Thanks Souj

Quitting ffxi for the billionth time so looking to get a new game or 2. Issue atm is budget. Also, to preface I haven't bought a new game in like a year and that was Blops/ff13(fml)/RE5. PS2 completely took a shit when I got Chrono Cross. And 360 hit 2 red rings after playing madden yesterday for like, 3 hours. Still under warranty.

I rented LA Noire and had a lot of fun with it but I don't think I'd buy it. From what I read, it has 0 replay value and it doesn't really take that long to beat it. I've been looking at getting Oblivion, Bully, GTA4, or possibly New Vegas. I have Fallout 3 and while it's fun I get bored easily with it. I read New Vegas has a ton of glitches and the story is super short. People seem to either love or hate GTA4. I could see getting completely lost in Oblivion. I had Morrowind and while I'll probably get blasted for this, it bored the shit out of me. Bully seems fun and interesting. For only $20 seems like a decent pickup.

    Opinions. I need them.

Not sure what about FO3 got boring to you but I felt NV was the much better game and it was no more glitchy for me than FO3 was.
(both of them were full of bugs and glitches though, don't get me wrong... NV has a ton, just that FO3 did too)

I think I spoiled FO3 a bit because I didn't know what I was doing and I accidently beat the story. I hadn't received my strategy guide in the mail yet so I was bumbling around just doing whatever following the story. I then suffocated myself with FFXI again when I started a new character and just forgot about FO3. I should just start a new character. As far as bugs, maybe it's lack of playing console games for so long, but I didn't really notice many in FO3. It's sounding like New Vegas is a winner to pick up.

Side note, was looking for GOTY strat guide for Oblivion on amazon, and $200+ for new?! $47.50 for used?!! I'd rather just wait for Skyrim and put money into that I think.

Going to get some 360 games I've been wanting for a couple years now. Samurai Warriors 2 Empires and Infinite Undiscovery.

It's been years since I've played Samurai Warriors and man I forgot how much harder it is compared to DW. The enemy AI is actually sort of smart. It may just be the controls but, dying to a grunt in a DW/SW game is hilarious unless it's on hard. Infinite...I don't really know how to describe this one just yet. An action rpg without dodge roll and an effective block? Feels like KH and other ARPGS spoiled me. Took me longer than expected to escape from the Orge in the tutorial because I kept dying from it's bullshit.

If your PC is half-decent, consider Guild Wars, if you haven't played it. You can see the hype for GW2 in the respective thread, but GW1 is not particularly expensive at this point ($27.99 for Trilogy, another $12.48 for Eye of the North on Amazon). Online, but no monthly fee, and you can solo (well, with NPCs) pretty much all the PvE content.
Admittedly, it gets a little repetitive, and a lot of what's left to do after the campaign missions is just for prestige...but if you don't rush to only do the essential missions/etc, you're probably still looking at 100+ hours just to do the storyline stuff (and a hell of a lot more if you go for titles, do additional characters, etc).

Provided you like it though, pretty high value there.

NV was fun, I thought. I didn't find it to be all -that- different from Fallout 3. Different story, sure, slightly different mechanics...but overall more of the same (which to me wasn't a bad thing). It's gotten rather cheap though, so might as well on that IMO.

Finished off my Duke Nukem Forever platinum. Not sure why I was so captivated with the game to have to playthrough it twice fully, especially on a difficulty level with lots of cheap deaths...

I should probably get back to farming blast shards in inFamous 2, kinda left that game alone ever since I did a dry run and beat it.

I hope you enjoy IU... everyone sleeps on that game but in my opinion it is one of the best RPGs this gen, right after Vesperia. It has its flaws and half the characters are annoying as shit, but man is it fun.

Putting my Mechanic on hold until the new Dungeon Fighter update comes out on the 24th. Screwing around with some mods at the moment, I'll post the results when I find some stuff I decided to use. Might need someone with photoshop skills pretty soon, since I discovered a mod to customize your awakening portrait. (super move portrait attack) I want to make it look like the character I'm using instead of the generic one on my avatar.

He could just necro the dfo thread. Weird, hard to believe the game is 2 years old - feels like that thread popped up a few months ago.

    - just got the sky chocobo in Final Fantasy IX. forgot how evil the sky garden is. two friggin separate hunting areas, my ass!
    - still grinding away on Tactics Ogre. I play more random battles than I do regular ones simply because the new upgrade system is so rewarding. it's like getting XP for characters that haven't even joined your team yet!

also, is anyone else thinking of playing Breath of Fire IV on PSN? just came out, and I love the BoF games but never played IV. I'll have to get a bigger memory stick or finish FFIX first though...

BoF4 is my favourite BoF. Admittedly haven't played a whole ton of BoF3, struggle to get in to it the few times I've tried to play it... either way, 4 is badass.

that good huh? I'll probably check it out. might be a while with my PSP backlog, but it's one of the few games left from the PSX era that I've always wanted to play.

Only thing I recall about BoF3 is that it takes FOREVER to get going. Another recommendation for BoF4 at any rate, although get used to the camera being a pain in the ass in some towns.
