anyone played Persona 3 PSP? thinking of picking that up

actually I just got a 4GB memory stick yesterday (on sale for $15 at Target!) so I might try out CFW tonight, so I don't really have a reason to go buy P3P. but part of me just wants to go in for some retail therapy and pick it up anyway

Its probably my favorite rpg on the system, but thats probably because i hadnt played persona 3 on the ps2. Id definitely recommend it if you haven't played persona 3 before, if you have though it may not be worth it; i'd also say that it is the superior version, when i tried playing fes the fatigue system and lack of the quick move thingy made it much more cumbersome and harder to enjoy. Basically all you'll be missing are the cutscenes, but i just ended up watching those on youtube after i played through it.

Playing on hardest difficulty here also. I kinda like it as it keeps me on my toes as melee mechs do not fuck around if you let them hit you.

Input delay is my main pet peeve currently. It's useless to shoot distant targets, faster to just boost on over and slam 'em with a melee attack.

did they change the fatigue system? I hadn't heard that.

I did play FES, but I would love to play the game again. it's so good. and being portable only makes it better.

idk, I think some of the stuff is downgraded, but other stuff is upgraded. If you want to replay, it's still another version/somewhat different experience/etc, so I'd say go for it.

I never played the original P3 'cause it looked like it had a God awful battle system. Gave Portable a shot and I didn't think much of it, battle system is still pretty shit and the dungeon setups is just a total fucking mess. I can really see why people call it a dating sim because that really is the only worthwhile part of the game... never managed to finish the damn game because every time I'd get to a point I needed to run a dungeon I'd just turn the game off. Afaik the only differences between Portable and the original P3 are the removal of real cutscenes/running around areas and the vastly better battle system that lets you control everyone. Then you of course have the female MC mode which has different character interactions/social links/music. So I guess if you're a fan of the original P3 you'd have no reason to dislike Portable.

I wouldn't know too much about that, I mostly used a shotgun anyway so I was up close and personal 90% of the time regardless of whether or not I wanted to melee. I did play a 'sniper' for a short while though and it seemed okay... but that was basically only near the start of the game so maybe I just didn't notice it yet or something.

I am so sad that you did not like Persona 3. like, I do not know how to comprehend this. easily one of my favorite RPGs of all-time...

and yeah, I think I will get it. not sure if I will be lazy and pay for it or not. I still haven't set up cfw. really tempted to though - I haven't been able to reset my PSN password for days now because every attempt results in a "network is down, try again later" screen. one thing's for sure, I will never use the PSOne Classics feature again. protip for Sony: paid-for services that compete with piracy are supposed to be easier to use.

Anyway, as for me... I'm actually playing BoF 3 again. LLG, I haven't really gotten to the point where I need to decide whether or not I'm going to use the monopolize/death trick or if I'll just take boss exp. Time will tell.
MDT would allow me better stats since after I beat the game I'm gonna level everyone with Ladon as their master and see what my stats look like, should be pretty tight.

yeah, bad games that won awards across the board and single-handedly extended the life of a dying genre not to mention bringing Japan's third-most-popular RPG series the stateside fame and recognition it had been lacking for over a decade.

edit: nothing against Kiarax. we all have games we enjoy, and games we don't. but calling a game that was practically an instant classic "bad" is either trolling or ign'unt.

When I can, I've been playing FF1 on the PSP. I think that's my 5th platform for it now. lol

Picked up the new Madden last night. Hoping I can play a few online games with friends this time around.

I just really don't think it has anything going for it at all aside from the character interactions. Every time new floors in the Tartarus opened up I'd clear them all in one "night" and then avoid going back as much as possible (though quests started to get damn annoying wanting me to grind the same floors over and over). The story dungeons weren't so bad, but Jesus Christ the Tartarus... I dunno, I'm just a kind of person that relies more on gameplay than the storytelling or characters. I wouldn't rate the battle system any higher than other turn based games just because I think the weakness/knockdown system is incredibly silly, I'd rather be playing FFXIII in terms of gameplay and that's saying something. I guess the music is pretty cool too, but as I said... anything after the gameplay for me is an afterthought. I pretty happily play games in Japanese that I don't understand a damn thing for if the gameplay is good.

I finished Bayonetta and God of War 3 this week, I want to play an RPG next but I have so many in my backlog that I don't know which one to choose.

I have Ar Tonelico 1, 2 and 3, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, Atelier Rorona, Disgaea 3, Tactics Ogre: LUCT, Final Fantasy III DS, Final Fantasy IV complete and Dragon Quest IX.

I also have Xenoblade and Disgaea 4 on the way, I need to knock some of these out, hehe.

but... but... the weakness/knock down system is what made is so addicting! Persona 3 is the sort of game where one bad ambush can destroy all of your progress, but if it does happen it was probably entirely your fault. which is true of most SMT games, especially post-Nocturne. I'm addicted to that stuff; I usually play SMT games on hard mode the first time through because easy isn't satisfying enough.

and suddenly, I'm in the mood to finally play through Digital Devil Saga 2...

oh well, different strokes for different folks. at the very least, we will always have Tales <3

As much as I like Persona 3 and 4, fun game play is not what the series has going for it. SMT is the same, I love Nocturne and DDS (not as much), but I love the story, settings and characters. There's no love to be had for the game play, it's just bad and dated.

Just finished The Baconing... little disappointed overall, maybe 'cause of the lame world map and just how short it was Hmm, looking into some games to finish before Dead Island hits...

I can see someone feeling that way about Persona, but the other two... well Nocturne was pretty gameplay-heavy, and DDS was even worse - you got about one cutscene for every two to three hours of dungeon diving in that one. maybe DDS2 is different, I haven't gotten very far in it yet, but DDS1's dialogue-to-dungeon ratio was excessively tilted in favor of fighting.

not saying you're wrong, just saying you would have to be a glutton for punishment to enjoy DDS or Nocturne solely for the story (even though the story is amazing in both).

Still playing DFO, and working on my Exorcist again. At least I wish I could play my exorcist. There's these buff called Frigid and Passion Chakra that you need to keep on 24/7 and they have this annoying droning sound to them that gives me a headache half way through a dungeon. I've tried everything I could think of just to get rid of this one annoyance but the game's file check automatically re-installs the sound file. What's so goddamn important about hearing what sounds like a waterlogged garbage disposal? I'm literally on the verge of saying fuck it, and gimp it without the buff.
