now I remember why I hate Etrian Odyssey games; I re-classed to experiment with a new setup and while it worked well at first, it's not as good as I thought it was. literally lost 5+ hours of progress at once. and with only one save file... fuck it, I'm done for now.
not sure what else to play. might just be one of those times when I put the games down for a couple weeks until I regain interest. anyone else ever feel that way?
I do it constantly; I do it with the internet altogether at times and just read or try to do different shit for awhile.
Parroting reviews off of Kotaku much? There's truth to the fact that the game is arguably more cinematic than game, but if you aren't a fan of something a little different, then you probably shouldn't even be thinking about it to begin with.
As for button mashing, yeeeeah no? Maybe if you get your jollies playing the demo on easy, but the game punishes you pretty quickly on hard if you just run in and try to slam buttons to win against everything. Certainly there's criticisms to be made about the combat, but button mashing isn't one of them. Enemies attacks draining so little of your life bar that you shrug them off half the time? Yeah, I'll concede on that, but that's half the reason I plan to do a Mortal run when I'm finished.
My copy of Gundam Extreme VS came in,
,
LETS DO THIS
hard dungeons in VP piss me off -_- FUCK THE TOMBS OF AMENTI HOLY SHIT. Finally out of this shit hole.
I'm in a portable RPG phase right now. Anyone got any suggestions? PSP/Vita/DS(Not 3DS) are what I own.
Hexyz Force
Crimson Gem Saga
Star Ocean: First Departure (worth playing even if you ran through the SNES ver)
Star Ocean: Second Evolution (if you haven't already played it on PS1)
Phantasy Star Portable
Phantasy Star Portable 2
Crisis Core
Wild ARMs XF
Jeanne D'arc
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Valkyria Chronicles 2
Tales of Eternia (its actually a ps1 game but there's a PSP version so I'll list it)
If you've played all of these and you just really HAVE to play a portable RPG:
Knights in the Nightmare
Mimana Iyar Chronicle
ClaDun
Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
Shit I haven't played:
Any other Ys game (because Ark of Napishtim was not very good intro to the series, I can see some of the others look better but I am skeptical now)
Any SMT game (persona 1, 2 and 3 all have psp versions I think)
Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle
Parasite Eve 3: The 3rd Birthday (its kinda a TPS/RPG hybrid, dunno if you want that or not)
Mana Khemia: Student Alliance
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Disgaea 1 and 2
Class of Heroes
This is all PSP btw, I don't really use my DS for anything more than a paper weight... and Soma Bringer.
I was thinking about Knights in the Nightmare for a while but anyone I ask about it says it's a shit game.
I think KitN is pretty great but it's weird as shit and hard to get into. plus the battles take a while, so it's not the greatest for a handheld - you could turn off the PSP/close your DS and come back in the middle, I suppose.
I'd say if you're pirating it's definitely worth a shot... if you're paying, I like it, but not enough to recommend it.
Just wrapped up a first playthrough of Asura's Wrath, clocked in at a little over 7 hours including the real final chapter and blah blah. Overall, game is worth playing, but the decision to pick it up for $60 or wait for it to drop is a personal one.
I could nitpick about stuff, but it's mostly trivial. It's worth playing, but if you pick it up, pick it up at a price you're comfortable with. If it was $30 or less I'd be saying everyone should play it, but yeah. Personal preferences, etc. Does some neat stuff.
Now to keep chipping away at this backlog I picked up over the holidays before another new release every week until damn near the end of March.
There's a Valkyrie Profile remake on PSPthat's what I'm playing now. It's a great game.
Just to chime in on this... Ys: Seven > Oath in Felghana >>>>>>>>>>>> Ark of Napishtim. Seven is a really good game and Oath in Felghana is pretty damn good too. Badass soundtrack and boss fights really set it apart. Napishtim is honestly pretty mediocre but still worth checking out if you want an okay action RPG. I'd cosign pretty much anything else Kuro wrote with the exception of ClaDun, I though it was garbage. Wasn't a fan of Knights in the Nightmare either but it's really hit or miss for most people too.
Yeah I didn't have any patience with ClaDun myself, dropped it after all of 15 minutes despite seeming awesome in concept.
Indeed, Ys: Seven is really great. I found Oath to be quite good too, but not as good. Never played Ark so I dunno.
Ys Seven is awesome, though I had a lot on my plate when I played it and lost interest after getting lost in the tree dungeon. Oath is good too. honestly, Oath and Seven are the two top competitors in my book for best battle system in an action RPG, easily.
ClaDun X2 I played for a bit and enjoyed. it's not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, and the plot/dialogue are laughably bad, but if you enjoy mindless dungeon crawlers it's not bad at all. it also falls into the category of "if you're pirating, check it out, if you're buying, don't bother."
I did, I don't think it deserves to be there so I said I didn't cosign it. Wouldn't ever recommend it under any circumstances, and for reference I played the "vastly improved" sequel to boot.
