Just beat Alone in the Dark for ps3 (which fixed a lot of the glitches/bugs/problems people had with the 360 version) and I have to say I'm quite pleasantly surprised. Not a particularly long game and little replay value, but once you got past the initial difficulty curve it was really entertaining. The way you could mix/combine items was really innovative and well executed, the puzzles/problem solving were well implemented, and the music was excellent. I'd recommend it for a rental, at least.
On to Silent Hill: Homecoming now!

Just got cutscene in Luishka where you find out 'what' Fibrill is and Galenos tells you that Balir started the Grand Fall
    etc and I'm 8:40 in.

Part of that is idle time due to trying to play @ work. (PSP version on Hard mode only because I have to beat the game to unlock Hardcore)
you are definitely a hardcore tales fan, sir.

    I'm a big fan of Homecoming. Like, they put the combat system in and yeah some times you do have to fight but you can still run like in all silent hills ( i guess not counting the one with the sword and the ghosts lol). But yeah, just playing the game, the whole atmosphere of it is fantastic, even if you hate the gameplay. God now i want to re-rent it for the 3rd time ; ;

Silent Hill lost me after the second one. I just can't get into them anymore.

I was a fan of Homecoming, but in my defense (or not), I never played the first two (I did watch "let's play" videos on youtube of both of them though) and only briefly played the third one (got past the big worm thing in the mall, I think that's around the time I quit).

Anyway, I ended up getting Godfather II from Gamefly and finished that up. It wasn't too bad but I wasn't expecting much. It was enough to entertain someone who isn't a fan of the movies at least.

Got back to Lost Odyssey but what the fuck, I have to grind for the first boss? Or am I just doing something terribly wrong? There's not much else I can do that I'm aware of. The AI of that fucking thing is pretty good or I'm just very unlucky, because it constantly targets Jansen which means I have to waste a turn raising him only for him to die the next round, then Seth and Kaim fall shortly after every damn time. The plot seems interesting so far though so no reason to let the first boss of all things to turn me away, not to mention I've honestly seen nothing but good things about the game.

There's a trick to the first boss if I remember right, keep trying different strategies and you'll find out how to beat it. Took me few tries to kill it too, but it's nothing unbeatable.

Honestly not sure how many other strategies there could be for the first boss in a game other than what I've done already, which was to obviously equip Kaim with a Fire Ring and have Jansen use Flare (when he's not being ripped apart like a wet tissue). It was bothering me during class so I looked it up and apparently I missed a piece of equipment that will allow them to learn poison immunity which will be nice against it, but half the time they are dying to the flying attack which does ridiculous amounts of damage even when guarded. Oh well lol, I'll get past it as soon as I get home. It's pretty nice to have the first boss be a challenge, anyway. Hope it sets the tone for the entire game.

I played/beat LO when it released so take my memory with a grain of salt as it has been awhile. If I remember correct there was an item you find before getting to the first boss that you can use during battle that greatly increases your physical attack damage for the duration of 1 battle, I remember after having trouble the first couple of times popping that on Kaim and letting him rip through him, with that, poision immunity, and make sure in your battle formation to have Kaim & Seth on the front line & Jansen in the back (you probably already did this but just in case, the enemies have to deplete your guard meter thing in order to do any damage to anyone on the back line, if he tries to hit Jansen in the back before that meter is depleted it won't do hardly any damage) you shouldn't have any issue beating him before he beats you. Put around 80hrs into LO maxing out everything and snagging all the achievments, IMO it is a very good traditional style rpg, the story is great, the memory sequences are amazing make sure to find all of those they are well worth it story wise.

Oh right, the Energy Drink is what increases physical attack for a battle. I have it but honestly didn't even consider using it, when I play RPGs I hoarde items like no other, but I'll be giving it a try later tonight.

Ya, I was the same way, it was one of those items that you figure would be in short supply and would want to save it til an oshit battle, but after getting owned a few times I said screw and went all out and made a huge difference. Goodluck tnite

I went to Gamestop yesterday for the same deal. Picked up Saint's Row 2, Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, and Quake 4. I was bored.

Bought Warioland: Shake It!! a couple days ago. Its no Warioland 4, but its definately not a bad game. I find it a bit easy, but the music is good and the gameplay is solid. Besides, I can never get enough of "mweh heheheheheh MINE MINE MINE"

Currently trying to beat Bionic Commando: Rearmed.

I lost track of how many deaths I've had that involved me messing up the timing/underestimating swing momentum on the grappling hook and flying into spikes/water.

I suck. nearly 20 hours in and I just got back to Inferia. then the disc started skipping and I gave up for now, no patience to keep resetting randomly until it decides to not lock up and destroy tons of progress.

playing FFVIII instead, I nominate this game for the most abusable battle system ever. let's see...

    - Card Mod, which can give you endgame abilities and items before you pass your first exam
    - Draw/Junction, which works well with the Card Mod ability as well as
    - Refining Magic, which works well with Card Mod!

having a Squall with 100 Curagas junctioned to HP before I leave for Timber is just plain stupid. but fun. it makes it very easy for him to be in yellow HP and spam Renzokuken without being in any real danger at all.

the game's a bitch for people who are OCD about collecting stuff, though. I spend around a half hour per boss on average drawing 100 to 300 copies of each new spell, depending on how useful it will be, even though I could probably just wait a few hours until I can draw it from normal enemies or refine it from items.

and then there's the goddamn card game. motherfuckers need to learn to play with their best cards THE FIRST TIME I challenge them. fucking Ma Dincht wouldn't drop Zell on the board until I played her at least 20 times. goddamn cuntbag whorebitch.

    ahem. excuse the rage.
