Against my better judgment been playing FFXI with the spam nucks the last few days. Other than that I've been playing White Knight Chronicles(the first one.) Trying to raise my guild rank and shit like that. Having a hard time making money so it's taking me a long time to upgrade my georama. It's kind of irritating.

Started messing with WWE 12. I can't tell if I just flat out suck at this game or if the controls and AI make it extremely hard. The "counter" move seems to never activate. Once I get slammed once, it seems damn near impossible to recover. Anyone have any tips?

Thanks Elcura. I don't have much of an answer on Arc Rise... as I feel the same exact way you do. I bought the game at launch and was hyped to play a great RPG on the Wii finally. The voice acting destroyed me. I just could not get past it.

Fast forward a bit and I now have an un dubbed version and have given it two to three more chances and it just fails to hook me. I am sure I haven't given up on it totally, but I think it is definitely running out of chances with me.

Get the undub version. It does get a bit more interesting.

Not by a TON, but it is pretty decent. Now I need to go back and finish it myself ._.

finally got bitten by the Monster Hunter bug. going through beginner training helped a LOT with the shit I was confused on. now I can see why people love it, though. currently finishing up my weapons training (just started Hunting Horn) and then it's off to do some real quests!

MH is something you really have to give some time before it clicks. First two times I played it, went through all the trainings and played it for a few hours and didn't like it at all. Picked it up one day and tried it a third time and now I have over 1000 hours across the games... no regrets!

yeah I tried it once before and was like "what the fuck is this shit?"

getting into it now... until some asshole wyvern took out 3/4 of my health in one shot, knocked me down, and finished me off before I could get up

ok I looked for a Monster Hunter thread, but even though I'm sure there must be one, I couldn't find it. so here are my thoughts and questions so far:

    - fuck this game. fuck it so hard.
    - that said, I can't stop playing.
    - so far I'm rolling dual swords with bonus ice damage, and I seem to be doing alright. I read that dual swords actually don't do a ton of damage, but that elemental damage is applied individually for each hit and is independent of weapon attack power, making elemental dual swords a good choice. sounds good to me.
    - what weapons did other Monster Hunters out there enjoy, and why? I don't want to get stuck on one weapon type as I feel like that will come back to haunt me later on in a game like this.
    - no seriously, fuck this game. god fucking damn cheap-ass cheating bullshit monsters. tackle me and then jump on my ass right as I'm getting up, FUCK YOU. and why do items take like ten seconds to use anyway, fuck it.
    - still addicted though.
    - any skills that come in particularly handy? right now my choice of armor is more focused on defense than skills, but the best armor set I could find had attack+ on it, so that worked out alright. had to add a few gems to get it activated. I'm wary of upgrading to a new set of armor and ending up with crap skills though.
    - any other general gameplay tips? I just discovered power, armor, and stamina drinks... think I might test those out, seems like they'll come in handy. other than that I don't use items aside from potions and whetstones. I haven't really tried out any of the status-effect meats or bombs, not sure how useful they'll be.
    - no seriously, fucking giant goddamn monkey butt-slamming me to death and farting on my corpse, FUCK THIS GAME.
    - sigh.

    So painfully good.

I liked the speed of the Duals but the lack of power really was what saw me leaving them behind. If you carry Energy Juice (which you likely can't even make just yet) all the time it is a bit better because you can spam the crazy demon blade shit.

For the longest longest time I was either a Bow or a Hammer player. Each are fun as hell in their own way. For Tri, I used mainly Long Sword and Hammer. Now that I am back into MHFU on Vita I wanted to try something different so I am mainly using Heavy Bowgun and Lance. People SWEAR by Greatswords, but I have never really given them a fair shake. The slowness always turns me off. I just need to try them though as there are no better damage dealers. (Well, save HBG broken-ass-ness)

    Delicious.

I never really use the status effect meats or bombs, they are rarely convenient to use. The dung bomb is the exception. When you are interrupted by a second boss while fighting the first, it can be handy to have one to toss to get one of them to change areas.

Armor skills early on are pretty preferential and situational. You usually want to armor up to compliment your weapon. Attack+ can't hurt for Duals. Psychic Vision is nice until you get used to the bosses movement patterns. Always have paintbombs, always be painting. Don't hesitate to gtfo and heal up on the next map and go back. Big Dive (sprint + jump while boss is on map) will save your ass and is priceless. In the early times, you should get in the pattern of hitting that farm up between every quest.

For early money, unlock all three 'Gardening Rows' on the farm. 'Buy to storage' 99+ worms from the vendor and check the granny for Red Seeds between quests (she changes stock). Buy three when she sells them. Plant red seeds in each row, fertilize with worms to hit level three in each row. Do a quest. Return to the farm and dig up your red seeds! Sell all but three and repeat each time in between quests, buying more worms as needed.

That is all I can think of atm.

I tried greatswords as well but jesus fuck are they slow. I don't have the patience to use them, though I'm sure they're absurdly powerful if you get the timing down. long sword seemed like a fair compromise though; powerful but a bit more mobile.

out of curiosity, how is the HBG broken?

I definitely check the farm every time I'm done with a quest, and I'm using paintballs as well. it only took one escaped boss monster after a long and painful battle to teach me that lesson, lol. I didn't know you could buy to the item box though, that shit will be useful, thanks.

I guess I shouldn't say broken, it is just extremely powerful if used right. Coupled with the fact that it is pretty easy and 'safe' to use, it tends to get called a noobcannon. I think it is fun, as are pretty much all of the weapons (love me some Hunting Horn too, but more so in MHP3rd) but it gets a bad rap.

Also, if you don't already have it, this site is priceless for info on weapons, armor, monster weakness etc. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite Wiki

Picked up Ys Chronicles. Not too bad considering the game came out in 1987 and didn't receive a face lift like Ys III did, but it's pretty damn easy to get lost/miss items.

I have no idea what I feel like playing. I have a ton of games I should play, but I'm not in the mood for any of them. Someone tell me what to play.

Preferably on DS or PSP. Or something I can emulate on my phone.

Friend convinced me to start Phantasy Star Online 2 with him. This'll be a good chance to brush up on my katakana and learn some kanji. Anybody else already playing this? lol

MH ain't hard, you just don't have the technology to play it.

So... I can't seem to finish FFXIII-2. I've been on an off (mostly off) for the last two months. I need to plat it before I move on to DkS ;x

Monster Hunter update: still on Elder two-star rank, sixteen hours in, lol. finally beat Congalala after about six tries last night. tried out Yian Kut-Ku and he wasn't too bad considering his reputation as a "wall" on the Monster Hunter boards. didn't win but that's because I went in without any supplies and ran through the two mini-whetstones very quickly. I don't think he'll be too awful with a full stack of whetstones, potions, and demondrug.

really want to be done with the two-star rank crap. I can only imagine how much worse it gets if I'm already struggling this much. god damn this game is hard... satisfying, but hard.
