Man, it's been so long since I played this game, I forgot how pretty and awesome Johnny is.

replaying Dark Cloud 2 has made me realize this is one of the most addictive games of all-time. the game is so pefectly-balanced that at any given moment there is a 90% chance I have a weapon that needs "just one more" dungeon's worth of ABS to level up. I ended up grinding for like five hours last night on Monica's armbands. five hours. grinding. on fucking ARMBANDS. but hey, you only have Lin for a small fraction of the game, better make the most of her while you can.

any other DC2 fans out there? I have been replaying a shitton of games lately, and while I needed some pretty thick nostalgia goggles for some of them, Dark Cloud 2 is not one of those games. this shit is a serious contender for best "desert island game" of all-time. spheda, finny frenzy, upgrading weapons, upgrading sub-weapons to synth onto main weapons, taking pictures, making ideas, dungeons, recruiting characters, georama, fishing, upgrading the Ridepod, leveling monster transformations, getting medals. holy. shit.

what I'm saying, kids, is that I have fallen back in love with an old flame

definitely replayed this just a few months ago during my Suikoden replayathon. III is one of those games that seems like it should be terrible - crappy graphics, awkward battle system, slow pacing - and yet somehow keeps you sucked in. mad Suikoden III love.

I rocked the shit out of Dark Cloud 2. Wish more games would use that type of graphics style too.

Right now I'm having a Grandia-athon. Hopefully, I'll finish the 3 main ones before GW2 comes out. Probably not though. We'll see

As I've never played two(Couldn't ever find a copy and my friend never let me borrow his copy) it's just fun, the story is neat, the characters are cool, and building cities is really fun.

Luc was the best part about Suikoden 3.

    And the worst part.

    :/

It's a still really good, not as good as 2, little less focus on story.

    Also it has this gem:

Awkward battle system because of the stupidly slow skill grading system.. and long it takes to get the good shit S ranked so you are fast as hell. That is when the battles become kinda fun and decent.

Was probably that point where I lost interest in the game. It just lacked variety too much for my tastes. Was fun until the formula became blatantly obvious between the different locations.

Dark Cloud 2 at least improved upon the formula and kept mixing things up. I kinda liken it as the difference between Diablo 1 & 2.

Yeah, but in 1 you build a freakin robot on the moon.

so basically DC is good and all but DC2 is better. I probably won't bother with it then; I love DC2 too much and I think I'd get frustrated with DC.

speaking of DC2, you know you've been playing it too much when you randomly think "I should take a picture of that..." when you're playing other games. lol

besides DC2 and Ys Seven I've been feeling a growing urge over the past few weeks to replay Dragon Warrior VII... I'm not sure if this is a great idea, a terrible idea, or both. easily 100 hours long even with a walkthrough... but it's 100 hours of near perfection, on the other hand.

did you do Luc's scenario as well?

also, mad Xenogears love. probably #1 on my list of games I keep meaning to replay, but it's such a huge undertaking...

Played some more Ys Felghana, got to a dragon boss, died 5 times while barely denting him, and said fuck that as I didn't have the patience at the time to get the pattern nailed.

Went on to play Q.U.B.E. while listening to the Bombcast, ended up beating the game start to finish with the podcast 2hr25min in, so one short game that was. Ended things off by making some progress in Hexen, finally reached the second hub, which is as far as I got when I played the thing years ago.

Level design can still go fuck itself. Had to have my map open on three occasions so far just to see what a switch in front of me does somewhere on the other half of the map. Been running it in Skulltag still after tweaking it to be as close to the original as I can. Makes it easier for me since it's a one-stop solution for Doom/Heretic/Hexen, as well as player mods. Been playing some Megaman Deathmatch and Who Dun it? on the side which are decent late-night time wasters.

I'm not really helping my backlog by playing it either. Granted, can't use my PS3 until my order of HDMI converters comes here for my current display, so I got time to blow, although I probably should reinstall Witcher 1 and beat that so I can finally install my retail copy of Witcher 2 and see what the hubbub is about that game.

What's the best Monster Hunter to play for PSP? Newest? Have never played any of them and that's the only platform I have available.

iirc MH: Freedom Unite because it will make a man out of you. Portable 3rd/Tri series are better and more balanced and all but makes MH:FU awkward to play and doesn't have nearly as much content.
When you're bored of G-rank monsters in FU, you're probably good to move on to Portable 3rd

Absolutely agree with Kais on that. Are you planning on soloing everything? If so, MHFU is the most challenging (and therefore rewarding) of the three Kais mentioned. Soloing online Tri gets problematic as there are certain roadblocks that you have to have help with (the first Jhen at least). MHP3rd is far and away the easiest of the bunch in all aspects. I enjoyed the hell out of them all, for hundreds and hundreds of hours combined. Recently got back into MHFU all over again on Vita and MHP3rd on PS3. The series is just amazing as long as you click with it. It really is one of those love it or hate it games.
