I'm enjoying a lot about it, the gameplay's fun, the battles are quick and engaging and the characters so far aren't fucking morons that circle around very obvious solutions to what they're dealing with. Shit happens and they deal with it / Griek punches said shit. The only downside is the never-ending spell of game freezes you can apparently run into.

Only time the game froze for me was when doing the fights for spells for that book. The music would still play though... and I'd just let it. I like it.

I had forgotten how much fun (/sarcasm) the first three or four battles in Nocturne are in hard mode. they might be literally the hardest battles in the game. you can't grind levels, you can't recruit demons yet, you can't buy items, and a critical hit from the Preta will guarantee a loss. finally got through it after seven or so tries, thank Yahweh... or Lucifer, maybe.

Thought it might've been a fluke but when I looked it up there's no given solution and where I'm at it means I can't progress. Sucks because it seems like I'll have to miss an entire side of the story.

For me, the freezes when fighting those mobs was fixed completely when I updated to a newer CFW. I don't know if that'll help you at all but it did for me.
I'm on procfw and it works without any problems at all 100% through the game no freezes.

Also, remotejoy didn't initially play at full speed for me when on older firmware with this game... after upgrading it does.

but, following your plan, i absolutely steamrolled matador earlier today, woo! i don't think i ever made it past him when i first bought the game back in '03, so i'm pretty excited to be able to make some real progress in the game for once.

Matador is a very harsh wake up call for first timers, especially if you don't get the hang of the press turn system by that point. When you got a game over screen like this, dying isn't too bad.

Odd that you brought Nocturne up. I loved that game, had that little mini guide book for it too. Wish I still did. I have been on a kick lately, hunting for old Shin Megami PS2 titles. Nocturne is on the list when I check out the local shops here as are Devil Summoner and Digital Devil Saga, having never played either of those series. So far, no luck.

Been playing a lot of Spelunker HD on PS3 after picking it up on sale last week. Something about that game that makes something tick in my brain in both the good/bad way, hard for me to put down. The deliberate controls where a tiny pixel mishap will be your death probably contributes to that. Wouldn't mind playing it 6 player co-op, but the online is pretty much dead. A shame since I'd like to see the flow of the game if everyone just splits up, find the keys, then rendezvous at the doors near the exit.




Also picked up Jak Collection since I found a copy cheap. After 3 hours in the first game, feels like a pretty solid port, not skipping a frame at all or odd hitches like I've seen in almost every 'HD Collection' not done by Bluepoint(who ported MGS, Ico/SoTC, God of War). Forgot how....polygonal the character models were in the first game though. It's such a jump in character model detail from the first game compared to the later two. Other than that it holds up pretty damn well visually.

Game bugs the OCD side of my brain though. Trying to 100% each area when possible before I move on. Some of those orbs are a bugger to find.

better off going this route tbh, a searchable pdf would be a godsend. i still have the original first-run of the book, and while it's remarkable compared to most strat guides for the depth of information on the game system (let alone the extras like the artwork sections, developer interviews, etc.) it is a bit unwieldy. that's partly due to the paperback size, and partly because of weird structural choices. boss encounters are listed in a separate section at the back of the book (and they will tell you what abilities are useful to have, but give no indication where or how to get them), as are the overworld maps, and i'm pretty sure some of the info in there isn't entirely accurate (e.g., in all the hours i spent in ginza doing shit i never once fought an inugami).

any Valkyrie Profile fans? picked up Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, and I want to make sure I'm doing it right. I looked up requirements for the A ending, how to unlock Seraphic Gate and get the 8 Flame Gems, and where to grab the Creation Gem and Creation Jewel to improve Transmutation. oh and I read that Odin is basically a greedy bitch and you can keep "his" artifacts all you want without having too much of an impact, especially if you are sending up Einherjar on the regular.

glad you made it past him! you've inspired me to pick the game back up myself. just reached Shibuya (I think? I forget the name; it's the first "town" area) and I'm already in love again.

Anybody here know much about ePSXe?

I recently installed it on my laptop. Everything was going good for about a week, but then all of a sudden the loading times started getting extremely long. Sometimes, I think it even freezes(The first "now loading.." screen when you start Mega Man Legends comes to mind). I'm just curious if anybody here knows what caused this. I don't think I changed any of the settings, or if I did, it was without realizing it.

This... I can't stop playing it. Added up the hours I have in MH Tri, MHFU (on PSP), MHFU (on Vita), MHF, MHP2G, MHP3 (on PSP) and MHP3 (on PS3) and I am just under 975... I know that could easily have been 1,200+ had it not been for a few other games distracting me.

Finally get to play Tales of Rebirth after putting it off for so long. While it's a 2D/3D game, it's becoming my favorite along side Vesperia for my favorite tales game. Also, Mao is fun to play as (I usually dislike playing casters at the start of the game). Except having an overly obsessive protagonist is kind of annoying.
