holy crap nocturne looks awesome scaled up. wish i had a decent PC that could actually run PS2 games at full speed... i tried PCSX2 out a few weeks ago and it wouldn't even maintain a steady framerate on the memory card check screen when DQ8 boots up, haha.

Picked up SO2 for PSP like a month ago remembering how much I liked it way back, but the fucking dialogue and voice-acting killed it for me. I think I got 2 hours in and just couldn't go on.

To those playing Second Evolution:
I found SO1 to be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than SO2. If you haven't played First Departure, do it.

Nice, I remember grabbing the translation for the SNES release a long time and never getting around to it.

Also still playing MHFU, was really surprised to see how much free DLC there is for the game. Sucks that it's limited to choosing between 6 of the 30 or so quests they have at any given time, but still a very cool bonus.

I found SO1 to be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than SO2. If you haven't played First Departure, do it.

SO2 is one of my favorite games, so I'll have to check this out

I played SO2 before SO1, so I like it more just because nostalgia + playing it 100 times. But SO1 definitely has more interesting characters (inside and out of battle), which makes it more fun. Or maybe I've just played SO2 so much the characters aren't as interesting anymore.

I find the SO1 characters to be more interesting as well especially Mavelle & Erys... easily my favorite characters, sucks that you can't have 'both' in your party at the same time.
But considering how OP they can be, I guess it is understandable. Erys is too godlike having some of the strongest attack spells, being one of two characters with a res spell and having godlike heals too.
Toss her in a party with ANYONE and you've got a good group. Mavelle just does insane damage.

another nocturne question: how the hell do the stat doors in the 5th kalpa work? strat guide says 25str to open the door to get to the fairy transformation room, my red rider has 32str and it won't accept him. magic door is borked as well, 25mag requirement, my daisoujou has 28mag but it won't accept him either. my matador has 26agi, but i'm assuming that won't work either, provided i can ever get to that door. do fiends just generally not count toward these or what?

edit- nvm, just did some grinding to get black frost up to 25str which was enough to open the door, got the mega-pixie upgrade and i'm guessing with 30s across the board, she should be able to handle the rest of the stat checks.

It's very confusing man, that's about the only thing that makes me scratch my head. I think it has a lot to do with the placement of your demons. For example.. I had Clotho and her stats are maxed. I should have had no problem but I could not pass a particular door I think it was Luck or Ag.

Mavelle is the exact character I was thinking of. So strong and badass, I couldn't help but like her instantly. I've always hated that SO sometimes forces character exclusivity, but ultimately I don't care if I get to play the game again.

Of course for storyline reasons it is perfectly acceptable that you can't have the both of them... still sucks though.

weird, i didn't find any mention of that stuff online or in the book or anything either. ah well, pixie did the trick, i plowed through metatron pretty easily so i've got pierce now. i guess there isn't much left to do besides grind in kagutsuchi until i'm high enough to get metatron so i can start fusing pierce onto the rest of my team?

quick Star Ocean question:

I'm trying to decide between Cyuss and Phia. basically it sounds like Cyuss is better in battle, but I much prefer Phia's character design. given the relative ease of Second Evolution, I'm guessing it won't make much of a difference, so I'll probably just go with Phia. any thoughts?

if I pick Phia it'll end up being: Roddick, Ronyx, Millie, Ilia, Phia, Mavelle, Ioshua, Pericci

It's $9 on PSN for PS+ subscribers, and I've not touched any games in the series thus far. I just want something to play on Halloween where I can murder lots of zombies, and the price is right.
