Currently playing Valkyria Chronicles. I have to agree with Null in regards to:

I played 1 and 2 on other platforms years ago, but never picked up a PS2. It always bothered me that I hadn't completed the series, among all the other PS2 games I had to ignore.

If anyone you know is on the fence about spending money on a PS3, let them know Amazon.com still has ONE NEW box of the backwards-compatible PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack in stock.

    ONE.

I stopped checking on it after it got delayed for the tenth time or so. Good news, I'll be getting a copy tonight for sure.

Been playing some Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island, nearly 100% the thing even though it's not even been out a full 24hr.

Also been trying the aforementioned Black Sigil, and so far first impressions are horrible. Good sprite graphics, but uninspired music, extremely slow world-map movement, and random encounters up the ass tied together with slow-paced battle mode is driving my patience.

Currently playing Black Sigil on the DS right now, the game so far seems to be a really good rpg though the encounter rate is a bit to high.

Suikoden Tierkreis is pissing me off. I'm about halfway through, I think, but I really can't stand that every time they ask me to make these teams/parties and I give people nice gear and then they just leave after a battle and I have no way to get the gear back. I have no clue who has what, they should auto-deequip upon leaving the party. At least the story is decent, although my 'gaming ADD' is acting up and I want to play other things. Must... complete.... something.... And I added suikoden 3 to my wishlist, but I have no business buying more stuff while I have such a ridiculous backlog.

I guess I'll either hit up Black Sigil (based on what everyone says) or DQ5 (because I really loved 4) next, maybe. Who knows. I always end up changing my mind lol.

edit: nvm, this game got pretty fun really fast. I'm at the part right after your castle gets bigger, just recruited a SHITLOAD of people. It's neat having so many choices and being able to micromanage, but I wish some menu processes were a bit more streamlined. Maybe it's because I'm new to the series but is the 108 party member thing supposed to feel so gimmicky? I would like it more if it was like "i have x person healing until Y comes along" but it seems like ALL the party members fall short of having desirable marks and are a bit too interchangeable. I know it's hard to make clear-cut roles with 108 people but I guess I'm pretty indecisive so perhaps having that many options causes me a little too much room to vacillate.

So in disgaea... Should I just ignore the item world? I'm on chapter 3 with highest level of 12 so far and I was confused as hell. I think I understand the concept, go inside a weapon that you to increase in stats, fight stuff, get better weapon. But I was surprised on how many levels there were. I died upon reaching level 6 because I ran out of healing items/healers . I think I should just stick to the story. All those geo panels and messed up terrain is so confusing.

Oh and speaking of MGS4 and the ps3, this came out today: Limited edition gunmetal gray MGS4 PS3 coming to America, hearts flutter

That's EXACTLY the reason why I quit playing disgaea and couldn't bring myself to play another sRPG for like 5 years. If someone has the answer to exactly how disgaea is meant to be played I'd love to hear it, I ran out of money trying to heal people and got absolutely overwhelmed by the item world, too.

I've noticed that my only reasoning for posting in this thread has constantly been because of MGS.

I don't know you, but I'd still buy all the games for you.

Going back to The Orange Box. Since my big screen died I've been forced to use my systems on crappy systems and I really don't feel like playing any new games on such a shitty viewing system.

Yeah Diablo II definately keeps you well entertained for a week or two depending on how long it takes you to "beat the game". : p

I never bothered with the item world personally, until you're forced to upgrade one particular item to lvl10 to proceed with the story, which at that point in the game is a joke to do anyway.

If you're having problems with the main missions, just go to one of the maps that have a lot of +XP geo panels and grind for a bit, get your abilities upgraded to cover more ground, raise your attackers primary weapons up (sword gets a badass ability later on that attacks a 3x3 square area 3 units ahead, I've abused the shit out of it to grind from lvl100 to 2100'ish post-endgame), and create new characters to assign as mentors to your primary players (which would probably be the story characters) so you can make your mains stronger by having them learn their apprentices' abilities.
(which are learned by having your main cast them a couple times with the apprentice sitting directly adjacent to them)

Not the easiest of games to learn, steep learning curve. Hell, I never bothered levelling more than 3 primary characters and let them duo/trio all the missions.

Item World is only useful for upgrading rare/legendaries, but for those you need to have a stupidly high level to get past floor 30, so it's primarily an endgame thing imo.

Ah ok. I laughed when the tutorial said its okay to beat the game without entering the item world or messing with the senate. I'll try to stick with the story then. I'm enjoying the humor so far in it.

Beating the game for me was completing Uber Tristam. I remember it took us like 6-7 hours and so many deaths I lost count after a certain point.
