It's not a stealth game.
Was expecting a stealth game and was supremely disappointed with what I got. It's a great game and all but it was not at all what was advertised, as far as story and especially the stealth elements.
Zero way of gauging how hidden you are, the shadows in the game give you no clue as to if you can be seen or not, you 100% need x-ray vision if you are going to do a stealth playthrough which is incredibly stupid. They introduce elements like blowing out candles to make it darker in the room in the tutorial level and then that is nowhere to be seen in the rest of the game, not that it would matter because I can't think of any area in the rest of the game that it would make a difference.
It's like they started to make it a stealth game as advertised and then said "screw it" and released it without finishing those aspects of the game.
Not to mention that 75% of your powers and gadgets are useless if you plan on being stealthy. It's almost like doing a stealth playthrough is like doing one of those self-imposed handicapped playthroughs. The game is so much more enjoyable when you aren't being stealthy and they went out of their way to do that. Compared to Deus Ex: HR which made both gameplay modes viable and fun, Dishonored is not a stealth game.
Story was completely bleh compared to what the initial trailers eluded to as well.
I still enjoyed it for what it was though and am playing through it multiple times but yeah, it could have been so much better.
