Good to hear it's worth the stretch. I just picked up GTA 3/4/VC/SA so I've been toying with SA for now. Installing graphics mod makes the game look pretty decent for what it is.
You've never seen one of the 10,000 suicide prevention videos where a bunch of people tell some gay kid how much better it gets?
No, can't say that I have. And I have no idea how anyone would get that from what Brill said or have any idea what you were talking about, lol.
w/e nerd, I'd be surprised if anyone who had seen one didn't make the connection. 2deep4u
I had no idea what it meant either thus was ignoring it.
Combat in 2 & 3 devolves into Gears of War style shoot-em-up that lacks any real substance while the story manages to get worse throughout the series, with the exception of a few characters in 2 that are more interesting than the main plot (Thane for example.). Your choices also start to mean less and less throughout the series. If you don't like 1 then I'd get out now unless you really like the above mentioned gameplay peppered with the lightest of rpg elements then I really wouldn't bother because you'll ultimately be disappointed with the story anyways.
EDIT: People like to hate on 1 a lot now but they fail to remember that that game is the reason 2 and 3 were made. I loved that game and then they streamlined everything to appeal more to casuals (which isn't necessarily a bad thing if done right, but they didn't imo). I know I'm in the minority here but I figured I'd give you the other side of the coin about it and potentially save you 15-20 hours if you don't like 1.
I GOT THE JOKE
There was an entire internet campaign about it, a gay congressman from Texas cried and everything you heartless jerkbutts
Also playing the ass off of Borderlands 2 and Bastion. The 2 big pickups from the Steam sale and they were so worth it.
That's pretty funny, coming from you. I realize that everybody is still fawning over Bioware and jerking themselves off to Mass Effect 3 but the reality was it was a horrible game, and I'm not even taking into account the ending. I was giving the man a realistic view of what to expect.
Outside of mad from the ending ME3 was great.
Also what did thy dumb down from 1 to 2/3? Getting rid of the obscenely cumbersome inventory for one that getting a new weapon means more then just watching the stat points rise?
Or are you a Team Mako groupie? I'm honestly lost how gameplay wise people could say 1 is better. Storyline wise yes, gameplay hell no.
Yea, I can't agree with the statement that the combat was dumbed down. It was streamlined for the better, getting rid of the ridiculous inventory /omnigel system and instead giving you upgrades you research and explore to aquire.
Part 1s exploration hasn't aged well (and is my only real gripe when considering replaying it) because the game is immense but at the same time not very varied, and traveling to new worlds loses its appeal after the first dozen. Part 2 fixes the exploration aspect, the slowness to the combat, and overall gives you the best of 1 while still maintaining enough of an rpg aspect.
Play the series if only for the universe they built, the back story on EVERYTHING is so well done. Personally I spent a lot of time just going through the codex because the game was so interesting. I'm going out to buy 3, hoping people are over exaggerating about the ending. Part 2 ending is so satisfying even though it's really all just one giant setup to part 3, I'm hoping it doesn't disappoint.
No you aren't. You're giving him your view of what to expect, which is far removed from reality. I don't fawn after Bioware, especially not after DA2 and the ending of ME3, but ME3 until the end was a great game. The game play has only gotten better (rofl @ casual, so funny), the skills and abilities were improved continuously (in terms of power synergy and cross-play between classes, night and day), as are the feel and weight of the weapons, the variety in enemies, levels and the difference in playstyles between difficulties.
ME1 on the hardest difficulty was barely a game. You had slow as shit powers that hardly worked together, weak, inaccurate weapons (and shitty aiming unless you spam marksmanship or are near the end of the game) and barely any method to protect yourself aside from hiding behind objects without even being able to efficiently return fire. They improved the layout of the game, the inventory system, menus etc. ME2 and 3 are just and easily better games than ME1. There is no argument here. You have to be retarded to say that ME1 had better gameplay than 2 and 3. It didn't.
Story wise, you can say whatever the hell you want. Personally I felt like ME1 had a slow start, uninteresting middle, then shit finally hits the fan and comes together at Ilos and everything keeps up until the end of the game. The last quarter of ME1 is fucking fantastic, and in retrospect the build up was good too (though hard to appreciate when playing). ME2 has my favourite section of the story, the best characters and interactions (apart from Wrex, sadface), the last mission actually feels like a final mission (fuck you ME3) and everything you do has impact. ME3 was great until the end, then everything just lost it, didn't enjoy the character selection as much and I thought they wasted Javik and the whole Prothean angle thing.
So yeah, please stop being wrong.
I preferred the Mako to that terrible resource surveying crap all the way, yes.
I've been over this before, and I'm pretty sure it was even with the same people so I'll stop shitting up the thread. I gave an honest description of what to expect. I also never said that the gameplay was better in 1. 1 was pretty rough around the edges as far as combat goes but I definitely preferred it to what was in 2+3. In an attempt to smooth out the gameplay from 1, they oversimplified EVERYTHING. The overall experience from 1 was better than 2 or 3, especially considering the story is the main focus of the series.
EDIT: Elcura telling me I'm giving him my view of what to expect when he's doing the exact same thing to refute me. Also trying to discredit me because I used a word that generally has a negative connotation instead of actually reading what I said. Hurr durr.
EDIT EDIT: I even acknowledged I'm in the minority with my opinion and that I was giving him the other side of the argument so he could decide for himself. It's funny how riled up people get when somebody doesn't like the same things as they do.
Ill agree to disagree then, I don't like giant sandboxes for the sake of giant sandboxes, and the majority of mako exploration felt like a lot of driving around for nothing. Replacing that with surveying (which you can skip half of even if you go for full upgrades) and exploring solar systems with the Normandy was a-ok with me.
Got back into Borderlands 2 with Axton. Switched his traits around so now he's a killing machine with Torgue/Tediore weapons.
Also managed to ding to 51 farming The Warrior without any Legendary weapons.
