Here's an example of how the movement works in Falling Skies. The blue line is how far you can run and still take a 2nd action. The yellow is the furthest you can sprint. Notice the brown crap between the truck and the pile of wood. That's grass that you can't see through. So when you move there it's a crapshoot as to whether or not you are sprinting. You can't see the shield icon for cover either.

I enjoyed it my first play through because of the ramifications to the plot from the ending, but honestly I enjoyed it even more the second time through. You're in for a treat with MGS3 though, a real fucking treat.

Only thing I'm still fuzzy on was the Tanker incident. Mostly since when that was going on I was getting ready for bed and missed a good chunk of the plot twist there. Was that part of the S3? Or an entirely different incident?

Also, I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!

MGS2 is a lot of fun, you just have to ignore the knee-jerk reaction that was common at the time (and still lingers oddly enough). But it's all worthwhile to get to MGS3.

Still lingers? Yep. My brother in law refuses to play Metal Gear Rising simply because Raiden is the protag.

    His loss.

    His loss indeed.

Tanker is a different incident. The tanker set up the question of wtf is a Patriot, Ocelot and his loyalties, MG Ray (which they allude to being important only because Rex blueprints got leaked), and a few things here and there. I'd replay it honestly, even with cutscenes it's only 2-3 hours tops, even less since you know where to go and what to do.

I assume you waited till the end of the game for the bonus scene? That bonus scene only makes all of MGS2 more wtf, but it all gets expanded upon in MGS3. And then MGS4.

Honestly, MGS2 was the turning point for the series imo. All the important plot elements of the series including the new games all started in MGS2; but don't worry if it doesn't make much sense yet because it didn't for us when the game originally came out lol. Replay tanker or not, once you start playing/beat MGS3 you'll have a much better grasp on the overall plot.

Just did some read up on it. Apperantely the tanker incident was to make Snake look like a terrorist and seize RAY since it conflicted with the Patriot's and Arsenal's plan. And by bonus scene, you mean the post credit one between Snake/Octacon?

And yeah, I never got the Raiden hate myself. Sure at times he seemed whiny, but still thought he was a pretty good character.

Yeah, it did a lot. The terrorist thing was never really expanded upon, not that it mattered much in the MGS universe. And yeah, the post scene is where Snake asks Otacon where the Patriots are. Raiden hate is just people upset it isn't Solid Snake; comparatively, Snake is leaps and bounds cooler then Raiden. At least, until Rising came out lol.

Was looking for a new SRPG to play, tried out Blackguards. Looked nice at first, but after about 7 or 8 hours in, I freaking hate this game. It's poorly designed in so goddamn many ways (seriously, that arena fight in chapter 1...ughhh). Don't bother getting it, it's really not worth the money.

So I looked around some more and found Expeditions: Conquistador. Loving this game so far, much better than Blackguards. A little too much wandering around/questing/exploraton for me (I just want combat in my SRPGs and I don't think I fought anything that wasn't a tutorial battle till like an hour in), but it's still pretty good. Not a ton of options on customizing units, but it's a small game, so I guess that's expected. Overall, having a good time with it so far.

Yeah, seems like I'm the exception rather than the rule on that one. Didn't like it from the start, but then started to get into it a lil' 'cause I liked Yukiko but the entire time I was playing I just got this increasing sense of boredom 'cause I didn't care for the combat and the game has some of the lamest dungeons I've ever seen. And I do mean ever, I've played hundreds of RPGs and these dungeons definitely rank bottom 10 for me.

With middle of the road combat, no real sort of exploration (aside from one of the world's worst dungeon crawls) and no interest in Persona fusing; I struggled to try to have a good time with it but just couldn't. There's just so little in the game for someone like me who simply cannot be pulled along by story and characters alone. I'm more of a substance over style kinda guy.

I hope your experience is much better.

While I'm usually with Chari on the "if there's no gameplay there's no game" debate, P4G has decent playability in its higher difficulty levels. I would definitely recommend not playing the game on Normal, and use a higher level to make your choices of elements/party members a lot more important. Makes fusing a bit deeper too.

It's kind of "false difficulty" with just increasing stats and other things, but it really does change the experience enough to warrant a recommendation.

The main factor of my enjoyment in Persona was knowing beforehand to expect a lot of story and dialogue. Provided you at least like the characters (and in P4, characters are more likeable with exception to Marie who...meh) and the story you should do fine.

In terms of a sim it's not too deep but provides a lot of entertainment for little effort, and that adds to replayability as well. If you're used to SMT style battles (but WAY easier) then you should do fine overall.

Just started up MGS3 and got to the part where I encounter Ocelot. Anyone know what Snake meant about him trying a new technique? I know semi-autos are prone to jam, but no clue why discharging the first round would do anything.

Hmm...don't recall. It's been almost a decade since I played that game. I know he whittled his pistol grip to accommodate a knife easier the night before, and I know he comments on ocelots revolver, saying its too flashy with nothing to show for it.

According to my friend he was trying to load a bullet into the chamber instead of the clip which caused the jam. I don't know crap about guns other than my astigmatism makes it hard for me to aim one.

But yeah, fun game but I can see why some people criticized the story in some places. Ocelot himself, Snake going batshit crazy over a handgun, and Eva doing a flip on a motorcycle are pretty out there.

If I revisited the PS FF releases, I wouldn't be able to resist all the other non-FF rpgs like Front Mission, Xenogears, Star Ocean(which I missed out on), and etc. It's a dangerous path of nostalgia lol Meanwhile, just reached the first hub town in The Witcher 2, loving it so far, but I did do a little digging into modding because I hated the inventory system. Ended-up getting the zero-weight mod because there's way too much shit laying around for me to want to have to waste time depositing crafting materials every 10min. Also, disappointed the brothel doesn't boost stats or anything for being so expensive lol
