Oh god the amount of games I would add to my list just b/c I knew Jp...
I dunno how much I have left. I'm in my mid 40s and at the chapter where my group consists of Fie, Laura, Machias, and Elliot.
Spoiler: show
Ha ha yeah, I kinda spoiled myself for SC there. I just finished the part with:
Spoiler: show
So you're in Heimdallr then?
I'd say a bit more than halfway. . but the last two chapters are pretty lengthy.
Make sure you're keeping up with fishing. I missed a couple of quartz from sidequests and such. Master ones, that is.
Oh shit I keep forgetting about fishing.
Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. Holy shit this game has no right to be as fun and addicting as it is; basically Persona-lite. And I always fell on the Pokemon side of things as a kid, so it's not entirely nostalgia.
I was terrified about if dropping $50 would be worth it on this, but it absolutely was.
To clarify, it's similar to persona in that your roster is constantly changing (as opposed to pokemon, where it generally stays static) by evolving/devolving where you're finding an ideal path to get the skills and stats you want to end up with. It's not a glorified dating/time management sim, if that's what you were concerned about.
Digimon CS feels expensive as a PS4 game (especially in Canada where it's $80), but the $40 price-point on Vita was dandy, so I went with that version. It's been a simple game thus far though, although its presentation in general is nice and polished. Makes Pokemon on the 3DS look lazy in quite a few areas.
I've been all over the place with games lately otherwise.
-YS 7: Got back into this game after hitting the halfway point awhile ago since the mandatory backtracking irked me. Still does, but the game is still fun.
-Bloodborne: Finally broke into this proper after having it for months, reached night time and exploring about, having a good ol' time farming/dying.
-EDF4.1: Still crack.
-Xenogears: Slowly working through it, not played before, but it's been rather decent so far, aside from slow text speed.
-Trials Fusion: Somehow still coming back to it every few days or so just to shut my brain off and check out the new community tracks
-Parasite Eve: Was a curiosity purchase during PSN sales, and jesus fuck it has not aged well at all. The battle mode felt like was slapped into the game at the last minute. I owned the second game on PS1 and enjoyed that for what it was (a Resident Evil clone if I remember right), but PE1 feels like an experiment that wasn't fully run through the tests. The plot is rather dumb in a good way though and may continue just to see how much worse/cliche it gets.
Been playing it a lot too, I'm glad they actually decided to translate it finally. So far I am enjoying it as I expected since I love Digimon, it does have its flaws though. Some of the translations are sorta awkward/wonky, like people don't say that.. but I guess that is pretty standard in a lot of jRPGs. I cannot stand that rocker guy... ugh I cringe whenever he appears but eh. Like always, they fail to translate the correct names for some abilities. That seems like it happens with every single Digimon game though lol, and its odd because they'll get the ability names correct of completely obscure Digimon but the ones from the anime they will translate with the JP one (Heaven's Knuckle instead of Hand of Fate, or Mega Flame instead of Nova Blast.) Thankfully they kept almost all of the original name translations for the actual digimon, no Piyomon and shit.
The battle system is kinda wonky too or maybe there is stuff I don't get. I have mine set to hard mode since the beginning, most of the random encounters are easy but if you meet a Digimon that you are weak against, attribute or type wise, you will get completely destroyed it seems. Then sometimes some of the boss encounters are ridiculous because they get to go twice in a row, I have no idea why. Then when you use power up items like the 20% booster items, they really seem like they do jack shit. The speed boost barely makes you go faster and I do like 20 extra dmg on my attacks with the corresponding boost. The hard mode is appreciated though, it does make it more fun when I struggle in games lol. Now that you mention it, I really am reminded of Persona when I play it. I've been grinding the Colosseum recently because it gives like massive exp and there's this Flamedramon that kicks my ass every time, so I get to start over and continue to get that exp lol.
Glad I picked it up on PS4 though, I like being able to remote play on Vita and I already own the Jp ver of the game on Vita but I didn't continue to play because I hated how I couldn't understand anything.
That's pretty much exactly where I'm at, grinding gold cup for a bit to fill out my Digidex. My fancy new Paildramon wipes the floor in 1-2 turns on everything but Flamedramon. Except I'm pretty mad because I won't have the ABI to bring it to the next step, and will only get one back from de-fusing it, so I have to re-max CAM on a new Stingmon.
I'm sure it's too deep into the franchise to change, but I really wish there was a little more nuance/interaction to the elements. I like the multilayered separation between types and elements, but the elements just being two seperate rock-paper-scissors triangles plus the standard light<->dark is pretty boring. It makes non-elemental attacks kind of pointless when only 1 of 8 other types would be weaker.
Story and characters are surprisingly interesting, I was expecting cliche speeches about the power of friendship, but it's refreshingly mostly free of that. Definitely a lot darker than I expected, but not in an edgy way.
Doing colosseum early on is asking to be face first in the floor. Got destroyed easily...guess I'll grind 'old fashion way. Kinda hoping it would give xp regardless of a loss. Unless you don't mean ranking battle? idk haven't had much time invested in it yet, current grinding up at the hospital terminal.
Y'all better be playing on hard difficulty btw.
I'm trying to decide between the new Anno game (never played series but love settlers 7, civ iv and enjoyed but didn't love age of empires) and fallout 4 (don't love fps, but the settlement building part of it sounds interesting).
Help me decide how to spend money BG!
I don't think I ever would've considered those two games in direct competition before this moment. Personally I'd go with Anno, but I've never liked Bethesda games all that much, so obviously a grain of salt there.
So I've had this since last year (PS3) and started playing today. I have no idea wtf is happening (JP) but idc, FUCKING AWESOME!!! and I don't even know 75% of the cast!
I am enjoying that game immensely. I think, it's because the life bars deplete so quickly that it makes it crazy, hectic. The wiki has the characters listed and from what manga/anime they are from. The three bars specials are some of the coolest I have seen in a fighter.
Ark is going to be in the next Humble Monthly Bundle. So for $12 you get that (which I believe hasn't been below $18 ever) and five other games. Read a lot that Ark has some issues with hackers and devs nerfed the dinos after many had leveled them up. Not sure if I want to go down this rabbit hole but man does riding dinosaurs sound fun!
