So What Are YOU Playing?

Ugh, Eternal Sonata makes me rage sometimes. The gameplay is decent, but god the characters and story and horrible. I also didn't expect the dungeons to be a grindfest (in terms of getting through them) and there to be so few/short story segments. Each hour spent in a dungeon is rewarded by like 5 mins in a cutscene.

I had the exact same feelings, was probably why I stopped playing it around the half-way point. Will pick it up someday eventually when I get bored.


On a gaming related note, snagged me Bionic Commando for $9 new, figured that'll be some cheap entertainment since it got 'meh' reviews. Also grabbed Motorstorm Pacific Rift for $19, although I had to travel two towns to find a damn copy that was in stock.
(missed it last week at Futureshop for $29, then Walmart had it for $19 on Boxing day, ran out of stock today, but thankfully the other local Walmart had 3 copies still in)

Just currently waiting on Motorstorm to patch. And all I can say is, Sony, why the fuck do you allow devs to mandate 500+ mb patches on games, especially for reasons other than prepping DLC data?
(which I dislike to be honest. If I don't intend on buying map packs for a game, why do you make me download the 150mb some per map to begin with? Waste of my HDD space and bandwidth, and yours. Make it part of the DLC download rather than a damned unlock key)

picked up New Super Mario Bros. Wii so I could play with a friend who's in town... and of course, my friend left her Wii and remotes in California. oh well, I bought it because I wanted it, I'm just bummed we couldn't play together tonight.

tried out Dragon Quest Swords, fun game but the controls are infuriating.

having a good time with Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, though I wish they'd gone with 2d graphics or some hardcore cel shading a la Tales of Symphonia. I feel like this game was a downgrade from the GBA FEs, stylistically at least. but FE was never about the graphics.

out of all the Wii games I picked up, Super Mario Galaxy is turning out to be the best experience so far. the level designs are a vast improvement over Super Mario Sunshine, and some of the tasks you have to accomplish are creative as all hell. I love how the game can seem hard as fuck if you're going about it the wrong way, but if you stop and think for a second you can usually come up with some creative (and much easier) solutions. like the giant bug boss in the early game, I was having a hell of a time getting on top of his third form to butt-stomp the asshole until I realized there were dandelionish things all over I could use to spring into the air. can't praise this game enough.

biggest disappointment among the group has been Metroid Prime Corruption. it's ok on its own but fails hardcore for a Metroid game. sense of isolation and exploration? lost. tons of different beams to use? nope. what the fuck is this shit and why is it called Metroid? it's not a bad game, but it's not a Metroid game either imo.

oh, and Soul Calibur III on PS2 in 480p 16x9 is sex. it's like playing in the arcade. I can only imagine with SCIV with 1080p must be like. but I'm trying not to, lest I make even more unnecessary purchases.

God of War Collection on ps3.

I've only rented God of War 1 but bought 2 and the brady guide with it when it came out. I went looking for it when I got this for christmas and the guide is just as helpful for when I used it to beat it on the ps2.

Just finished Bioshock, loved the game, hope they improve a few small things, controller layout, plasmids and can carry more money. Really looking forward to the sequel in feb.

Going to playthrough Dead Space again to get me to next week.

God I HATED that your wallet could only hold 500 at a time, was so annoying. Also plasmids were fucking useless against big daddies.

Also Shadow Hearts 3 is getting really good now, despite a slow start. It's too bad Sacnoth is no longer together, I'd kill for a Shadow Hearts 4 somewhere down the line, as it's now one of my favorite series of all time. Anyone know if Koudelka for PS1 is actually good?

Thankfully I think I can beat this game before Darksiders comes out, with some Mass Effect achievement hunting peppered in there for good measure.

Started Vagrant Story thismorning. I remember playing it back in the day and not understanding what everyone was talking about when they said how good it was. Thinking i was missing something, i tried it again; i dont understand what people are talking about. The locations are dull, the battles are repetetive, the story, so far, is pretty much non-existant. Maybe i'm not far along enough to get it, but so far (about 5 hours in), it's as boring as i remember it was 10 years ago when i first played it.

Got Left4Dead 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Fallout 3, Okami (Wii) and Shadow of the Colossus for Christmas. I'm in gaming heaven right now. Biggest surprise was Shadow of the Colossus being so fucking epic, why didn't anyone tell me to play it three years ago?!

I played Ico a few years ago (before SotC came out) and although it was pretty cool I couldn't get into it properly. I should check it out again, assuming the disk still works. I really hope they make a next-gen sequel to SotC or at least something similar, if the PS2 can manage that then just think what they could do with the current machines.
